Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: The nukes shown in the end hit the cities and blow up. Modern nuclear missiles are designed to airburst for greater destruction. They should have detonated 200-300 meters above the city.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: We view the explosions from a great distance. 200 - 300 meters is not very discernable plus the blast would have extended to the ground immediately, covering that distance within the first few milliseconds, far less time than it takes for a frame of a movie.

Sol Parker

Corrected entry: We see Excelsior has the hull number MKT-2000. The only other prefix we have seen in Star Trek is NX for prototype vessels. Given the experimental drive, she should have been NX-2000. What is MKT? And why is she NCC-2000 in Star Trek VI?

Grumpy Scot

Correction: The hull number of the Excelsior can be seen to be NX-2000 at least three times in the movie. On the Special Collector's Edition DVD NX-2000 can be seen at 0:12:37, 0:43:46, and 0:46:42. NX-2000 can be seen in the VHS version as well. An MKT-2000 is nowhere to be seen. The hull number is again NX-2000 in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Only in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is the hull number NCC-2000. Presumably the ship is no longer a prototype at that point.

Deepstar Six (1989)

Corrected entry: A creature that lived at that depth would explode when it entered the far lesser pressures of the undersea habitat.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: Not true at all. The animal will die after a short period of time but animals (or people) do not exploded at rapid pressure changes as in the movies. I worked in the deep submergance projects while in the submarine service and have yet to see any creature explode when brought up from the depths.

Corrected entry: WWIII didn't seem to do much damage. People have clothes, houses and even electricity. Riker states 37 million people are dead and very few governments are left. 37 million is only 10% of the US population and about .6% of the world population (please forgive the callousness of "only" 37 million.) One would think that government would return a year or less after such a small war. Especially since the majority of government leaders would most likely have escaped to shelters. After all, WWII was 6 years long, killed close to 50 million people and the major world governments never came close to falling (by falling I refer to anarchy as opposed to a new government). One would think casualties would be closer to 500 million-1 billion in order to truly cripple society.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: First of all, Riker actually says 600 million dead which is a far cry from 37 million. He also said many major cities were destroyed. You are also forgetting that there would be more Weapons of Mass Destruction used. Also, the "houses" we see are hardly that great, and people can use gas generators for electricity. It's not hard to believe people would have clothes, either. For that matter Data says it is 10 years after WWIII so people had enough time to get themselves together somewhat. It seems WWIII did as much damage as Riker said it did.

Corrected entry: When DiCaprio is in the hotel room with Jennifer Garner, they agree on $700 for her to stay the night. He goes through his checks and finds one for $1100 and then says he will have to go get it cashed. Why? He flips past one for $700 and this is not the kind of situation you want to leave in the middle of.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: He was tricking Jennifer Garner. He gets her to pay him $400 for his fake check. He made a profit on the transaction. They agree on $1000, not $700.

Con Air (1997)

Corrected entry: Poe was convicted of murder as a US Army Ranger. He would have served his time at the US Disciplinary Barracks at Ft Leavenworth, not a civilian prison. He would also have taken a military flight home.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: He is a civilian, at the beginning of the movie you can hear him end his tour and be discharged from service.

Blank Check (1994)

Corrected entry: The kid cashes a check for a million dollars and spends it over roughly a month. No bank in America would cash a check for that much without A. verifying the amount with the issuer of the check and B. waiting 10-15 days for the check to clear.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: Since the FBI was on him from the start, it's entirely possible they OK'd the deposit ASAP. This would give them a head start on tracking the issuer.

Teen Wolf (1985)

Corrected entry: Though the vampire legend gets changed when convenient for the plot, werewolf legends have always centered around changing with the moon. How does Michael J. Fox change during the day?

Grumpy Scot

Correction: In Teen Wolf it is a family trait that appears during or after puberty. It is triggered by the full moon but also by rises in emotion (anger, lust, etc.) It isn't your typical werewolf syndrome.
