Castle (2009)

Cops & Robbers - S4-E7

Plot hole: Brandt sabotages the mercenaries' explosives so they are killed when trying to escape. No real team of professionals would let the rich yahoo who hired them touch their gear. Nor would they use any explosives he provided without (at the bare minimum) inspecting them first. It's a plot hammer to wrap up what happened to the mercs so they can move on to Brandt's capture.

Suggested correction: So, they knew they would be framed/killed at the end? Also, if he was paying or threatening them, then why wouldn't they listen to him?

Walk up to a professional you have hired and is doing his job. Plumber, AC tech, whatever. Ask him if you can mess around with his stuff while he's working. What do you think he'll say? Especially if your messing with it could cause harm to him.

The Abyss (1989)

Stupidity: Monk steals the magazine from Coffey's SIG. However, I don't see how he could have jacked the slide to eject the round in the chamber without being noticed. Someone as paranoid as Coffey was at this point would not have left the chamber empty. (Just FYI, when you load an automatic pistol with a magazine, you have to pull back and release the slide to load the first bullet in the barrel.)

Suggested correction: Since we are never shown that Coffey did chamber a round, we cannot assume that he did based on his personality alone. Therefore this isn't a plot hole. However, it is ridiculous that he is threatening people with a gun without a chambered round. This entry should be listed as "Stupidity."

BaconIsMyBFF

SEALs don't carry weapons without a round chambered. The "maybe" here falls much more on the side of the round being in the chamber. And "Stupidity" wasn't an option available when this entry was originally submitted. :).

Grumpy Scot

Correction: That's not really a mistake. Starfleet EVA suits are custom fitted to each crew member and would go with them from duty station to duty station. Considering Colombia is the newest NX class in the fleet, Trip would be extremely busy as the chief engineer getting all her bugs out. He would eventually have changed the patch but it wasn't in his top list of things to do.

Die Hard (1988)

Corrected entry: When Hans is holding onto Holly's watch, he pulls a gun and tries to shoot her. If he shot her, he definitely would've fallen.

MikeH

Correction: McClane put at least one bullet through Hans. He is holding on with one hand to her watch. He knows he's doomed, he wants to take Holly or John or both with him if he can.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: Additionally, he might point the gun at John or Holly's head and demand he be pulled back inside.

Neighbors (2014)

Corrected entry: Seth Rogen pokes his daughter's crib to see if there was an airbag there, even though all the airbags had already been deployed and he was carefully counting them the whole time.

MikeH

Correction: Anyone nuts enough to steal airbags, break into your house and boobytrap your furniture with them might not stop at just the few stolen from your car. Though the whole airbag thing is silly and implausible to say the least, Rogen's caution wouldn't be out of place here.

Them! (1954)

Corrected entry: When entering the nest in the desert, it was important to wait until the heat of the day to insure that all the ants were inside. When entering the sewers in Los Angeles, they did so at night.

elkin2228

Correction: Yes, but they were also trying to rescue the two boys who were lost in the ants' nest. So it was important to hurry.

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: Unless everyone uses satellite receivers, the local news feeds would likely still come from terrestrial broadcast towers. The interference on the local TV stations wouldn't be present like it is, especially in the scenes with Russel being on the news.

manthabeat

Correction: Most satellite and cable companies carry local stations as part of their basic programming.

Why We Fight - S1-E9

Corrected entry: While the baker is shouting in German, Private Webster tried to shut him up in English. Webster can speak German (as seen in Part 8 - The Last Patrol showing Private Liebgott saying he and Webster both speak German). (00:46:00)

boyetdelrosario

Correction: Webster is also extremely angry at the German people because he thinks they knew about the concentration camps and did nothing about them. He is unwilling to speak German at that moment because of this.

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: Andy leaves his prison shoes behind in a shoe box for the warden to look at as the escape siren begins to sound. He wears the warden's polished shoes while returning to his cell the night before. As Andy lowers himself onto the sewer pipe after coming through the wall, you can see he is wearing his "high-top" leather prison shoes and is not barefooted or wearing the warden's shoes before he breaks into the sewer pipe.

Correction: Andy has a lot of influence at the prison. Getting a spare pair of shoes and keeping them in his cell would be nothing to him.

Grumpy Scot

Nothing hints to that, not when he's packing his stuff to show him putting his new shoes in the bag or anything. No hint about the shoes whatsoever. It was a mistake and that's that.

The Mummy (1999)

Corrected entry: The city of Hamunaptra (meaning 'City of the Dead Man') was found in India in the 1850's. There are no known ancient Egyptian cities by that name.

Correction: A. The Mummy is not a documentary, it's fiction, it doesn't have to use real city names. B. It's said in the movie that Hamunaptra is a secret hidden city.

The Terminator (1984)

Corrected entry: Sarah gives the Terminator (thinking it's her mother) a 408 area code for the Tiki Motel. At the time of the film's setting, the 408 serviced Monterey Bay all the way up to San Jose, meaning Sarah and Kyle would have been hundreds of miles away from the Terminator.

Correction: This isn't a mistake. They hitchhike to the hotel in the morning. Kyle leaves the hotel to get supplies and its daylight outside. Sarah then calls (she thinks) her mom. Kyle returns and he and Sarah make the plastique, then are shown in the hotel at night. It took the Terminator at least 8 hours to get there.

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: Kyle tells Marcus that you don't want to go out during night because the HKs have infrared. Contradicts what Kyle tells Sarah in the original movie: "You stay down by day, but at night you can move around." Doubt this was a mistake, but more of a difference in technology in the 25 years between production of the two movies. (00:26:50)

Correction: No mistake. Kyle says to Sarah: "You stay down by day, but at night you can move around. You still have to be careful because the HKs use infared."

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: After Black Widow hacked the security database at the end of the movie and uploaded everyone's identity for the world to see, Redford then chose to use his phone to zap almost everyone dead in the room using the electric charge that looked like electrical device cards in their shirt pockets. Robert said he previously put the devices on the outfits. Since Nick and Black Widow were the only survivors of the zapping, that stopped Nick Fury and Black Widow from forcing Redford to surrender. Robert Redford could have used that strategy while Black Widow was overtaking the database even before Nick Fury arrived.

Correction: Because Pierce genuinely does not want to kill any more loyal agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. than he has to. He is hoping to convince them to join HYDRA. He uses the 'taser badges' only when it looks like he's going to be defeated.

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: When Biff and his gang crash through the windows of the clock tower with their hover boards, Marty goes to give his back to the little girl, but she says "keep it, I've got a pitball now" and shows him Biff's hover board. Only problem is it's still in the clock tower wreckage, attached to the other 3.

Correction: There's a split second shot of the Pitbull leaving Griff's feet and flying away. The direction it went and how far isn't shown. It could easily have gone where the little girl could pick it up.

Grumpy Scot

True. There is a shot of it leaving Griff's feet and landing near the steps of the Courthouse Mall. It's hard to see but I'd say pausing or slo-mo isn't needed.

The Justice League Recombination - S4-E11

Corrected entry: At the end of the episode, when Sheldon imagines going to the Grand Canyon to scream about Leonard, that's not the Grand Canyon, signs not withstanding. The location is Dead Horse Point State Park in Utah (near the town of Moab), with the view looking roughly south into Canyonlands National Park. [GPS near 38°28'12" by 109°44'30".] It's several hundred miles upriver from the Grand Canyon. [At least it is along the Colorado River.] The first national park sign looks authentic, but the small one at the overlook is fake, since that's not the Grand Canyon. And by the way, since it's just after New Year's, there would likely be snow at both the Grand Canyon and Dead Horse Point; the images used are not winter scenes.

Correction: But it's all occurring in Sheldon's mind. He does have an eidetic memory, but if he has never been to the Grand Canyon he can't remember it. He's imagining what it would look like if he were there.

Grumpy Scot

Corrected entry: When Uhura is holding "Mr. Adventure" at phaser point to let Kirk McCoy and Sulu get away, after she says "This is fantasy!", she is holding the phaser level and steady. As the shot turns to him, watch her hand. It tilts over to her right by about 60 degrees. When the shot goes back to her, it's straight up again.

Movie Nut

Correction: This isn't a mistake, she is taunting him with the phaser for the "career winding down" crack. She has time to snap it back up before the camera comes back. It would take less than a second.

Tremors (1990)

Corrected entry: Why is it that Rhonda, Val and the others are safe when in their cars? Earlier in the film we see a graboid drag a large station wagon completely underground in order to get at the occupants. If they can do that then, why can't they do so with the cars used by our heroes to escape their clutches?

Correction: They are only safe when the cars are moving. The graboids aren't fast enough to catch the cars and they don't know what they are at first. Once they realize they are something their prey can use to escape they destroy them first.

Grumpy Scot

Correction: Paintball markers can easily fire two shots per trigger pull, especially when the CO2 in the tank is low.

Star Trek (2009)

Corrected entry: If Spock had not shown up at the end of the movie to offer his services, Kirk would have left spacedock without a First Officer. Starfleet wouldn't allow the flagship of the Federation to go on a mission without a complete command crew.

Teru_Kage

Correction: In the pilot episode of The Next Generation, the Enterprise picks up its First Officer, Commander Riker, at Farpoint Station. Captain Picard even makes reference to this in his log, that they will be picking up 'Key Personnel' also including their Chief Medical Officer.

Correction: Why not? They did it in The Motion Picture. Clearly it's no big deal to pick up an officer for an empty post after leaving Earth.

Prometheus (2012)

Corrected entry: The Space Jockey/Engineer in the original ALIEN movie is almost three times the size of the Engineers in Prometheus.

donguerr

Correction: We have zero idea of how much the Engineers grow as they age. Or if they have a caste system and the largest ones are created to be workers or soldiers. There are too many plausible reasons for the size difference to be a mistake.
