Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory mistake picture

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie, the Golden Tickets are placed over the upside-down chocolate bars, meaning that the tickets are actually on the bottom, but later when the children find the tickets, they are now on top of the bars.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Mike Teavee has smashed up the red pumpkin-looking thing, he smashes it cleanly into two or three quite big pieces. When his father says "Mike, please" the pieces behind him are much smaller and all over. (00:41:35)

Continuity mistake: During Mike Teavee's scene, his father has some bits of hair overlapping the arms of his glasses. On the right side the bits appear and disappear from shot to shot.

Continuity mistake: During the scene in the chocolate room, Violet's mother has red, sticky candy all over her teeth and face, visible when she smiles at Mr. Salt. A few seconds later, all of it is gone. (00:42:25)

Continuity mistake: At the nut factory, when Mr. Salt is there with the ladies, and he is walking up to the podium, the microphone is facing towards where he is walking from. Then in the next shot when he is at the podium facing the ladies, the mic changes direction and is centered, facing him.

Continuity mistake: Willy Wonka is bobbing his head to the Oompaloompa song in the nut room. But when the shot pans out, he is perfectly still.

Continuity mistake: When Veruca is choosing a squirrel, she heads for the last one in line, furthest from the ladder. Then after it cuts away and back, she is headed towards the middle of the line, but then she is headed for the last one again. When the squirrels jump her, she is about 1/4 of the way down the line, starting from the ladder.

Continuity mistake: The jacket that Violet wears has a zip. However, this zip disappears without trace once she is a blueberry, and remains missing for the rest of her existance as a blueberry. Violet's body was done in CG animation, so it could not be that Violet had to change into a different costume. There was no reason why the zip couldn't remain, it just seems like the CG makers got tired of it being there.

Continuity mistake: After the boat ride, when the boat settles in front of the door to the Inventing Room, Charlie's hair is windswept from the ride. In the subsequent close-up scene, however, his hair is suddenly kempt again. (01:01:30)

throast

Continuity mistake: After Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river, he gets sucked into the current of the pipe. At one point in the scene, a yellow bush seen in the background is moved back and forth by the current, but after the next cut, it is seen motionless.

throast

Continuity mistake: When in the Chocolate Room, Mike Teavee crushes the pumpkin into three pieces. It then zooms out and shows him crushing it into three pieces again when Mr. Teavee comes up.

Continuity mistake: On Charlie's birthday night he breaks up the chocolate bar into pieces and gives them to his family, when he gives a piece to his father the piece is in two pieces but when his father starts eating it, it is in one piece.

Disney-Freak

Continuity mistake: When the factory gates open for the contest winners, the shadows in the courtyard change between shots. [This is a reference to the first film in which the shadows shift a lot. It is also shown in other parodies of the original film, eg, the Family guy episode "Wasted talent". Still a valid mistake.]

Continuity mistake: When Mike Teavee has been sent by television, Wonka is pointing to the screen when the camera is showing outside the screen, but a split second later, when the camera is showing inside the screen, both of Wonka's hands are leaning on his cane.

Continuity mistake: Just after Violet Beauregarde has been rolled away by the Oompa Loompas, Willy Wonka appears next to Mrs. Beauregarde and tells her how they've tried it on several Oompa Loompas, they all ended up as blueberries and that it's "really weird." When he finishes speaking he is smiling, and the camera immediately cuts to a shot of Wonka and Mrs. Beauregard from another angle, and he's not smiling anymore, with no time to change between shots.

Continuity mistake: The tire track of the rightmost truck (in the top-down shot) is completely wrong. All 5 of the trucks were parked parallel. Besides, we can see only one pair of tire tracks per truck, but when a truck turns, the path the front wheels move on has a larger radius than the one the back ones move on thus creating two tracks. All this was OK just a shot before. (00:04:00)

Continuity mistake: When Dr. Wilbur Wonka is checking Willy's teeth using the dental pick and mirror, the view from inside Willy's mouth shows Dr. Wonka holding the mirror differently in his left hand from the shots of his left hand outside Willy's mouth.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: The Chocolate Room features a chocolate fall, which had to be technically enlarged to fit the room. In one shot, right after the people enter the room, however, the chocolate fall is shown only being half of its actual size.

throast

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Violet and her mother are talking about the trophies, the trophies in the trophy cabinet behind them changes between the first shot and the second shot. (00:21:50)

Continuity mistake: After Augustus shows his golden ticket he eats a second bar. His father is behind him, holding sausages at chest level. A shot later his arms are at waist level, without him having had time to lower them.

Trivia: In the scene with the young Willy Wonka eating a box of chocolates, he is writing down in a notebook a description of each chocolate he eats. When Roald Dahl was at boarding school there was a Cadbury's factory nearby that used the pupils as testers for their new chocolate, and they were asked to write down their comments in much the same way. This is mentioned in his book Boy.

Question: If the Buckets were very poor, then why do they even have TV? Why don't they use the extra money for food?

Answer: The Buckets weren't always dead broke. The TV may have been purchased before they became impoverished.

Phixius

Answer: TV is kind of a necessity. Here in the UK debt collectors can't take a TV if it's the only one in the house. Also, they can't afford newspapers so how would they catch up on news? The TV will last for a while whereas it would only buy a few days worth of food, so the TV is a more sustainable option.

Answer: In addition to the other answer about TV basically being a necessity, there's also the very real chance that they got the TV for dirt-cheap or even free somewhere. It looks like a crummy old antenna TV anyways. They often get old TV's in things like thrift stores or flea markets, etc. I actually specifically look for things like old TV's and VCR's in thrift store and find them a lot since I enjoy collecting old analog media and devices. Plus, given that the grandfather used to work for Wonka, it's entirely possible that he bought it in the past before the family became so poor.

TedStixon

Answer: Don't they have to pay for a monthly subscription? Isn't cable paid for every month?

This was based on the book, not the timeframe of the movie. There was no cable for TVs when the book was written OR in the 1971 original film. Yes, cable was available in 2005 at this film's time but that's not the logic here.
