Continuity: When Olaf arrives with his acting troupe while Violet and Klaus are scrubbing the floor, a small stool can be seen a few feet behind Violet. A couple of shots later the stool has moved right behind her.

Continuity: In the beginning when the mail is being pushed through the mail box we can see two letters with stamps visible, and the one to the right has a purple stamp. When it cuts three letters with stamps are visible and the one in the middle has a more darkened stamp which is not purple.

Audio problem: Trapped inside Olaf's car, Violet is in the front seat pushing all the buttons. She pushes the button that starts playing the tape, and the tape begin to roll. When it cuts, the tape suddenly runs the other way, but the music continues normally.

Continuity: When Violet opens the closet and finds the rat inside you can see a cup beside the rat to the left. When it cuts from a view inside the closet you can see it is a different cup and its handle has changed position.

Continuity: The marriage certificate that Violet signs and the one that is burning in Count Olaf's hands are not the same. If you look at when Violet signed it she didn't leave a dot over the 'i' in Baudelaire. The one that is burning has that dot.

Continuity: Right before Sunny bites Count Olaf after the Baudelaires have made dinner there is a shot where Klaus says "No" to Olaf. When it cuts, Olaf's hand has suddenly appeared out of nowhere beside Klaus' head.

Continuity: When Count Olaf spots Sunny and asks who she is, Violet says "Sunny is our sister" and you can see Olaf's hand on Violet's shoulder. When it cuts his hand is gone.

Continuity: In the last scene, when Klaus is in the tower and the light shines through all the mirrors, it is made quite clear he is standing right in the path of the light. Yet, when he walks up to the eye, he no longer is in the light's path.

Continuity: Right after Violet and Klaus break the beam which is supporting them during the storm, they begin to run forward in one shot. However, when the angle differs in the next shot, they begin to run forward again.

Audio problem: When Olaf (as Stephano) jabs the knife into the door when he arrives, it makes a vibrating sound. But Olaf kept his grip on the knife the whole time. It wouldn't vibrate in the door.

Continuity: In the scene where Violet, Klaus, Sunny and Aunt Josephine are being attacked in the boat by the Lachrymose leeches, you can see Violet has her hair down. When Count Olaf pulls up to them in his boat, Violet has her hair tied back with her ribbon.

Deliberate "mistake": In the scene where the children are first driven to Count Olaf's house, they turn round to see the house in the distance and while the house is fairly realistic the surrounding scenery and background are obviously matte painting.

Factual error: Before the Leeches attack the boat, Aunt Josephine throws out her banana peel. After she is abandoned by Olaf, the peel finally floats to the surface. A banana peel wouldn't even sink that low especially at the angle Aunt Jo threw it at.

Plot hole: During the play Klaus climbs up the side of the building to save the baby. He gets up and finds out Olaf burned their home with a giant magnifying glass. Later, Klaus uses the magnifying glass to burn the marriage certificate. This is impossible because the device couldn't have possibly been facing or forced to face the stage. The magnifying glass was on the other side of where Klaus climbed up and when he was climbing up he was facing the stage.

Continuity: When Mr. Poe is bringing the kids back from Monty, it cuts to a close-up shot inside the car of his hands on each side of the steering wheel. In the next shot his left hand is suddenly on top of the steering wheel.

Continuity: Before the play when the man with the arm prostheses takes care of coats he is handed over a coat on his right hook and a hat on his left hook. When it cuts the coat is on his left hook and the hat is gone.

Continuity: When the Baudelaires arrive at Uncle Monty's and Monty says "We have to pack all the equipment" he has a snake whose head is over his shoulder. As Monty close the door it cuts and the snake's head is suddenly hanging down by his waist.

Continuity: As Violet and Klaus are looking over the edge of the broken house notice the broken planks. In the next shot the planks have changed. Some are shorter, some are longer. Definitely a different stage of scenery.

Continuity: When the Baudelaire's come out of their burned house and Mr. Poe is awaiting, as Lemony Snicket says, "I tried to warn you", you can see two police men walk behind Poe's car. When it cuts to a wide shot the police men have walked several metres to the left in quite too short a time.

Continuity: When Sunny picks up the Scrabble letter, you can see the remaining letters are stacked together. Later when the shot change to her smiling, you can see the letters are more scattered.
