Deb: What are you drawing?

Napoleon Dynamite: A liger.

Deb: What's a liger?

Napoleon Dynamite: It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

Trivia

After Uncle Rico throws the steak at Napoleon when he's riding his bike, Rico sits back down on the porch and you can see him discreetly spit something into his hand and put it down. According to the DVD commentary, this was the bite of steak he was eating, because Jon Gries, who played Uncle Rico, didn't eat red meat. Between shots he spat out all the many bites of steak his character had to eat. See more...

Comments made in brackets are corrections from other visitors. As such, any aggressive/abusive corrections (and I get quite a few) written as if they're comments I've made myself will be ignored. To submit your own corrections for mistakes, just click the edit icon under an entry, then choose "correct entry". Some entries have "duplicated entry" after them - these are entries which were already listed on the main page, but were submitted again. I occasionally leave these online for a while, just in case they were moved in error, so don't worry about pointing them out to me.

Entry When Summer and Tricia are handing out "Vote for Summer" buttons to students in the school's hallway, there is one notable part where they don't give them out to a couple of nerds walking by. A few moments later, the same shot of the nerds is shown using footage from a different camera. [One of those two nerds walking by Summer is never seen again, the one with the red backpack. The other nerd is wearing the FFA jacket just like Pedro and Napoleon. A lot of people are wearing them in this scene.]
Entry In the scene where Napoleon and Kip are at the Rex Kwon Do demonstration, right after Rex performs the "break the wrist and walk away" technique on Kip, Rex asks Kip to try and kick him. You can see Napoleon in the mirror, sitting on the floor. Right after Kip's first kick attempt, Napoleon tilts his head down and you can see by his face in the mirror that he is laughing at Rex and Kip. [So, I would be laughing too if i watched my brother going through the same thing Kip went through.]
Entry Watch the lady caught in a headlock during the Rex Kwon Do commercial. Presumably she was already a student when the commercial would have been filmed, yet she appears later as a prospective student at the introductory meeting attended by Kip and Napoleon. [You can't just assume she was already a student and count it as a mistake. For all we know Rex could have just picked some random lady off the street to do the commercial, and as payment offered her free lessons when the next class started.]
Entry When Napoleon asks Don for one of the "Vote for Summer" buttons in the hallway, Napoleon turns to throw the button and there is a female classmate right next to Napoleon walking in the direction in which he is throwing the pin. As he starts to throw the button down the hall, the female extra is not there. Then, when Napoleon completes the throw, the girl ducks and reacts to Napoleon throwing the pin over her head. [If you look closely, you can see the girl coming down the stairs.]
Entry When Napoleon begins dancing with Deb at the school dance, there is nothing hanging anywhere near his head. As they talk during their slow dance, they each barely move their feet, standing in pretty much the same spot throughout the whole song. After they have their conversation and continue dancing, the camera zooms out from the couple (just before the scene change) and now there is a large star-shaped decoration right above Napoleon's head. It touches Napoleon's hair a couple of times, even causing him to move his head. [No, the star is there the whole time.]
Entry When Napoleon calls Kip from school to request his Chapstick, the cheese Kip is grating keeps changing. In the final shot, the amount of cheese on top of the nachos increases dramatically. [The cheese is supposed to change size, it's just a joke, that's why Kip keeps on looking at it.]
Entry In the scene when Lyle (the farmer) is getting ready to shoot the cow, you should see a bus coming down the road because seconds later the bus pulls up. [You can't see the road when it cuts to the view of Lyle. All you see is bushes and shrubbery in the way.]
Entry After Summer and her friends perform their "skit," the crowd is heard clapping, making whoops and whistling. However when the camera shows the crowd of kids, they are clapping but nobody is whooping or whistling. Several kids are chewing gum and one girl is laughing, the rest have their mouths shut. There are no fingers up to mouths to produce whistling sounds from the crowd. [The whole audience isn't shown in the camera's view. If you look carefully, you can tell there are more kids off to the sides of the auditorium. They could have been the ones who were whooping and clapping.]
Entry In the scene where Napoleon looks at his watch while going to pick up Trisha for the school dance, it says July 17th; but, Preston High school is on summer break at the time (there wouldn't be a school dance in the middle of summer break.). [Obviously Preston High School isn't on summer break in the film, as half the scenes (both before and after the dance) take place at school. Many places have year-round school, which would account for them being at school in July.]
Entry Watch the reflection on the picture hanging behind the couch when Uncle Rico is talking to Tricia's Mom. In the lower right hand corner of the glass, a reflection can be seen moving around, possibly from a crew or cast member waiting behind the camera. [It's actually the shadow of Uncle Rico's head.]
Entry When Uncle Rico and Kip are at Big J's (both times), the position of the straw in Uncle Rico's milkshake moves almost every time the camera changes point of view. [Uncle Rico could have easily moved the straw or taken a sip, moving the straw.]
Entry When Kip throws the bowling ball at the bowling alley, during his more private meeting with Uncle Rico, it bounces off the gutter blocking railings several times before striking the pins. In the next few shots, the bowling lane is visible behind Kip and Uncle Rico, as they each stand respectively during their conversation, but the gutter blocking railings are gone. [Bowling alley railing can be automatically raised and lowered for particular bowlers in a match - as such, they could easily appear and disappear over the course of a scene.]
Entry Just after the cow is killed, there's a reaction shot from inside the school bus. The kids are all staring out the windows on the right side of the bus, but they should be looking out the left side where the shooting took place. [The camera was in the front of the bus, so the kids would look out the right instead of the left.]
Entry When the kids are riding in the school bus, they pass the farmer as he shoots his cow. If you look closely out the windows of the bus from the inside shot, you'll see that the bus is not moving. [By the time we get to the shot from inside the bus, the bus has already stopped moving.]
Entry When Pedro goes off the jump with the bike there is a cinder block under it in order to keep it from breaking. When Napoleon goes off the jump and it breaks, there is no cinder block. [The cinder blocks are there during both jumps. During Napoleon's jump, they are simply stacked on top of one another to make the jump higher, with a steeper slope.]
Entry The sign on the bus station reads "Idago Bus Lines," but the bus that LaFawnduh gets off says "PRT" (Preston Rapid Transit) on the side. Apparently, the filmmakers borrowed a city bus because they either couldn't find or couldn't afford one from Idago. [A very plausible and obvious reason is, that the bus is from the city she was coming from.]
Entry When Napoleon is calling Pedro's house (and Pedro is the one that picks up the phone) he only dials 6 numbers. [Napoleon dials one of the numbers twice. So, he pushes six numbers on the phone but one of the numbers is done two times, making it a complete seven-digit phone number.]
