The High Chaparral

Stinky Flanagan - S2-E21

Deliberate mistake: At the end, the U.S. Cavalry "brand" Blue finds on the mule isn't a brand at all: it's obviously been applied with white paint to make it more visible to the camera. It's also unlikely that it would be so large, or that it would be located on the animal's neck instead of on its rump. (00:46:50)

The Kinsman - S1-E20

Visible crew/equipment: In the final scene, light patterns from studio reflectors are moving on the sleeve of Blue's shirt. He's on horseback in the middle of the desert and is nowhere near water, shiny metal, or anything else that could cause such light reflections. (00:40:50)

Only the Bad Come to Sonora - S4-E3

Continuity mistake: One of the bad guys rides the stolen black stallion throughout the episode - except when the gang rides away from the cantina. Then, all their horses are brown. Once they're out in the desert, the black horse reappears. (00:23:25)

Trail to Nevermore - S3-E7

Plot hole: When Manolito and Victoria jump from the wagon, her hat flies off and falls to the ground. The bandits ride on by, chasing the wagon, after which Mano and Victoria get up and start walking. She later laments losing her hat when they leaped, which makes no sense. Since the bandits and therefore the urgency had passed, there was no reason not to retrieve her hat before they left the area.

Alliance - S3-E12

Continuity mistake: During the climactic gun battle, several Apaches are shot off their horses. But in subsequent shots of the same area, all the bodies have vanished.

The Deceivers - S2-E9

Factual error: Victoria's musical jewelry box has magical abilities. It can play its waltz tune ad infinitum without ever running down. In fact, we never see anyone wind it up: it simply plays the waltz endlessly every time the lid is opened. (00:17:00 - 00:25:30)

The Deceivers - S2-E9

Continuity mistake: When Chio is trying to force information from Tina, part of her torn dress covers her left shoulder in the master shot, but in every close-up, her shoulders are bare. (00:29:45)

North to Tucson - S2-E8

Audio problem: John and Manolito are driving the wagon and loudly singing "La Gallina" together. But as they pass closer to the camera, we can see that their lips aren't moving.

The Promised Land - S2-E6

Revealing mistake: At the end, we see insert close-ups of several of the pueblo's residents. But they're exactly the same shots we saw near the beginning of the episode: the same people in the exact same positions, shown in the same sequence. The footage is recycled.

The Promised Land - S2-E6

Revealing mistake: During the fiesta, Reno plays his guitar in the canteen. Each time the musical chords change, we should see his left hand shift positions on the neck of the guitar. But though his right hand is vigorously strumming the strings through several chord changes, his left hand never moves.

Friends and Partners - S3-E16

Continuity mistake: Victoria is cleaning a lamp and has removed the globe and placed it on the table. After Buck and Mano enter, her blue cleaning rag jumps from hanging on the lamp to being in her hands and back several times between takes. And the lamp globe mysteriously replaces itself by the end of the scene, even though she hasn't touched it again. (00:44:00 - 00:46:30)

Trail to Nevermore - S3-E7

Revealing mistake: During the cart-pulling scenes in the desert, the use of a stunt double becomes apparent when the usually reed-thin Victoria suddenly gains several pounds and some new muscles in the posterior region. (00:08:00)

Jean G

New Hostess in Town - S3-E22

Revealing mistake: After Buck knocks Bates out, Victoria takes the outlaw's clothes as a disguise in order to escape. Miraculously, Bates' clothes, despite his being a foot taller and considerably heavier than Victoria, fit her perfectly. She doesn't even have to roll up the shirt sleeves or the trouser legs.

Jean G

The Price of Revenge - S1-E12

Revealing mistake: The substitution of a "stunt horse" is noticeable here when Blue is thrown during an Apache attack. Before he falls off, his palomino horse has its usual blond mane and tail. But when the horse rears and he falls, it's another palomino with a grey mane and tail. The blond one is instantly back, though, when Blue gets up.

Show generally

Factual error: Though they're supposed to be a Mexican cattle baron's family, the three Montoyas speak Spanish with somewhat different accents. This was because actors Frank Silvera, Linda Cristal and Henry Darrow hailed from Jamaica, Argentina and Puerto Rico, respectively.

Jean G

Billy Blue Cannon: I need all the rest I can get, Uncle Buck.
Buck Cannon: When I was your age, Blue, the word 'rest' hadn't been invented.

Trivia: While shooting an early episode, Mark Slade fell from his horse and suffered a painful bruise when he landed very hard on the gun at his hip. After much pleading, he convinced the producers and the prop dept. to make a replica pistol out of rubber. Replaced by the real one only when it actually had to be fired, the fake gun remained in Blue Boy's holster for the rest of the show's run.
