Continuity mistake: In Knockturn Alley, as Harry rushes to the doorway to step outside the Borgin & Burkes, the advertisements/notices lining the wall across the seedy alley are visible. When Harry turns around after saying, "I'm fine, thank you," the same wall is seen again to his left, but the advertisements all over the wall are completely different now. (00:16:20)

Continuity mistake: When Harry is in the Weasley's car, Ron yells, "Drive!" and four shots later Uncle Vernon shouts, "No, no, no no no!" when he starts to fall out the window. As the car pulls away from the wall, Harry is not wearing his eyeglasses in this wide shot, though it's on in the previous and following shots. (Most viewers agree that in this shot it is Dan Radcliffe's double in the front seat of the car, who has a longer face than Radcliffe's smaller, rounder face, but that is not the issue of this specific mistake.) Continuity mistake: When Ron is in the Weasley fireplace, in the first wide shot he starts to take floo powder pinched between the tips of his fingers, yet, in the next close-up he takes a huge palmful of floo powder in his fist. Then in the next wide shot, he has it pinched at the tips of his fingers, however, in the next close-up as he says, "Diagon Alley!" he has a fistful of floo powder yet again. (00:14:20)

Audio problem: At the Burrow, as Harry walks away from the clock, he notices the self knitting needles, in the wide shot as Ron passes the clock, he mouths the words, "It's not much," but nothing is heard. Obviously because it is meant to be heard in one of the following close-ups of Harry when Ron says, "It's not much, but it's home." (00:11:20)

Continuity mistake: At Diagon Alley, Hermione says, "Oculus Reparo," and in the next shot facing her, two girls, one with a green coat and one with a blue coat, come up behind her and in the next shot facing Harry as he examines his repaired glasses, they pass behind him. Yet in the next shot facing Hermione, they pass by her again. Then after a shot of Hagrid, in the next shot facing Harry, Hermione and Hagrid, the two girls walk by yet again. (00:17:40)

Continuity mistake: When Harry, Ron, Fred and George arrive at the Weasley house, first in the wide shot as one twin enters the doorway, then in the next close-up as the rest enter and third, just before Ron takes a biscuit, the amount and arrangement of the biscuits differs in each shot. Continuity mistake: The cork board, hanging over Harry's bed in the Dursley house, significantly changes its position on the wall, as seen when Harry sits on his bed to speak with Dobby. The location of the thumbtack pushed into the top point of the Gryffindor pennant, as well as the angle of the other point, also change throughout the scenes in Harry's bedroom. Revealing mistake: When Harry stands at his bedroom window looking at the nearing headlights, the houses opposite him on the left are really the neighboring houses that are seen to the left of the Dursleys when facing the Dursley house and the one on the right is actually the Dursley's home. In the close-up of the car as its headlights face Harry, the Dursley's house is seen behind it, but the check curtains and patio table were added to change the look of the house. The distinctive pattern of each of the home's bricks are a giveaway. (00:08:30)

Continuity mistake: There are eleven vertical front bars on Harry's window, five on each side of the center bar. Ron attaches the hook to the bars on Harry's window and when he says "Let's go!" we see the hook between the third and fourth bar on the right. Yet in the next shot and also in the shot looking up as the bars fall, the hook is between the fifth and sixth from the right. (00:09:20)

Visible crew/equipment: When Uncle Vernon falls out of Harry's window, in the interior shot as he yells, "No, no, no, no, no!" leg pads are visible under Vernon's pajamas as his legs fly out the window. (00:10:00)

Revealing mistake: When the bars on Harry's window are being ripped off, most of the window frame comes off as well. In the close-up. the attached hook pulls the bottom of bars and window outward, causing them to fall a certain way. Yet in the next shot looking up, the way in which the bars and window fall is strikingly different, not to mention unrealistic if it was really being yanked out via the hook at the bottom. Continuity mistake: When the bars on Harry's window are seen falling in the shot looking up, the windowsill is up on the left side and is visibly very crooked. Yet when the Weasley car backs up to Harry's window, the windowsill is perfectly fine again. (00:09:20)

Continuity mistake: After Harry packs his trunk, in the wide shot, as Ron starts to lean over to attach the hook to the bars, the excess rope is in the corner of Ron's window, but in the next close-up it's right in the center. (00:09:10)

Continuity mistake: When Dobby comes out of Harry's closet, he has a CG sock on his ear which he throws towards the dresser. The CG sock is not on the floor in the following two shots, although it should be, when the dresser and floor area around it is shown as Dobby says, "Harry Potter musn't be angry with Dobby," as well as when Dobby yells, "No!" and runs out. Continuity mistake: When Dobby stands on Harry's desk, in the close-up he slams the lamp base into his head with the electrical cord coming out of the base to his right. Yet in the next close-up the cord comes out of the base directly in front of Dobby and is now wrapped around Dobby's neck. (00:05:25)

Continuity mistake: The pillow and blankets on Harry's bed not only change position in consecutive shots, the actual pillow changes drastically from the time Dobby jumps up and down on the bed, until Harry confronts him about the letters. (00:03:05 - 00:04:30)

Continuity mistake: The Dursley house is shown in the opening shot, as Harry sits by his window. When Uncle Vernon places bars on Harry's bedroom window, the shrubbery directly below the ground window is completely different. (00:00:50 - 00:07:55)

Continuity mistake: When Harry first encounters Dobby, as he walks toward the corner of the bed to bow to Harry, a single sock and other clothes are lying on the bed. In the next shot facing Harry, the sock and clothes on the bed have noticeably changed positions and the two long ends of the Gryffindor scarf that hang over the trunk is visible. When Dobby sobs, as he walks off the bed, only one short end of the Gryffindor scarf hangs over the trunk, and it also changes position in following shots. (00:03:10)
