I remember about five or more years ago I saw this movie about a girl or a guy who goes to Ireland and while there this older guy knocks their heads together. Later on he/she gets drunk and married and tries to get out of it, but falls in love. Oh and some guy lies too long in a tanning bed and gets badly burned.

Answer: I think the movie is 'The Matchmaker' with Janeane Garofalo. There is a knocking heads scene and a guy does spend too long in a tanning bed and burns, but there's no 'getting drunk, married and regretting it' scenario.

General questions

Please help me find the name of this movie. I means a lot to me: it's my love story. The film is about a woman (blonde actress) that works in a place where the employer only allows married people to work in his agency. She was brilliant at work but single. Her close friend convinces her to lie at the employer and say that she got engaged to a photographer (he is also a blonde actor). She begs the photographer to help her in the plan and she will pay him in return. He agrees and then she uses him to make the man she loves jealous. That man (with soft black hair) that she loves is a bad guy, with multiple relations and he sees her as not suitable for him (as she's always been straight and serious). In time she gains the attention of her man and makes love with him, but discovers he is not the one for her, and at the same time, the blond one falls in love with her and shows her care and kindness. But she is tough with him, and forces him to pretend being bad and a cheater in front of her employer, to make it a reason for breaking up with him without being fired. But after she hurts the blond kind man, and forces him to do what exactly she planned for, she feels like losing him, and confesses everything in front of everyone at work, and the employer forgives her, and the black haired man asks her back, but she rejects his love. She finally goes to the blond kind photographer while he's taking photos of a bride and a groom in a church, asking him for another chance, and he agrees. Does anyone remember the name of the movie, please?

There's a scene I remember set in a glass walled office of a restaurant. Behind the main actors, through the glass windows, the chefs are busy prepping food, the scene goes on for a long time and I think may be a single take. Think it's a Hitchcock film - definitely that era - 50's I think. Any ideas?

Answer: This scene is in 'To Catch A Thief'. Definitely a Hitchcock film.

I am looking for a movie that has a scene where a man or teen is wandering in the woods and comes across a woman in a cottage or trailer or small house. She has little lambs running around and kills one for her guest. Does anyone remember this scene and this movie? Thanks.

sassybell

Chosen answer: That sounds like 'Cold Mountain'. Inman is found in a clearing, unconscious and handcuffed to other soldiers that have been killed. The woman frees him and brings him back to her trailer/home in the woods and kills a lamb to feed him.

General questions

I'm looking for the title of an older movie (I think it's in color) that I have never seen; it was recommended on some great movies show I had seen years ago. It's about an aging upper class woman who falls in love with her gardener. I think she ends up rejecting him by the end, possibly because of his lower class status, and the ending is possibly a haunting scene where the woman gets a TV set for companionship. We know that she will wither away her years in front of the TV, instead of spending her remaining years with her true love. Since I've never seen the movie I may be way off in my vague description of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer: The movie you're referencing is "All That Heaven Allows" a 1955 movie starring Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson.

I'm looking for the name of a film possibly from the 50's or 60's. The film is in black and white and there is a little girl in it. Another child in the movie died and I believe in the end you find out it is the little girl who killed the child. I think the other child was a boy but I'm not sure. I think the little girl pushed him in a body of water and he drowned. This is all I can remember.

Answer: This is 'The Bad Seed'. The little girl kills the boy to get his penmanship medal.

I remember a film ages ago. I think this man was trapped in a jungle or woods. When he actually got out he got run over by a truck. After all his efforts to get out that happens. Please do you know what the name of this film was? It would be really helpful. Thanks.

Answer: 'The Crying Game' features Forrest Whitaker being held hostage by the IRA. When he manages to escape, he runs out of the woods onto the street and is hit by a truck. This sets up the remaining part of the movie with one of the IRA soldiers seeking out the dead man's girlfriend.

I'm trying to remember a movie - it was either an older movie (1970s) or was made to look like it was older. It had a guy who I think tried to change his identity but someone recognized him. He also had a woman working with him who wore a blond wig. They kidnapped someone and put her in a huge, safe-like locked room in the basement. The woman put on her blond wig and went driving to meet someone and either pick up diamonds or get money or something. The guy started worrying when he realized someone recognized that he was involved in a fire I think in the past.

Answer: This is Hitchcock's last movie "Family Plot."

I recently watched Hitchcock's "The Birds" again. It had been a long time since my last viewing, and I thought I remembered in one of the bird attack scenes - maybe when the school is attacked - a female character with dark hair gets overwhelmed by birds and has her eyeball pecked out. I remember seeing this, because it traumatized me as a kid. The scene didn't appear this time. Could it be that I'm imagining I saw such a scene, or is it from a different film? Please tell me I'm not crazy.

Answer: There is the scene where they find Annie, the school teacher, and her eyes had been pecked. You only see this image briefly and from the side. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of.

Help, please! What movie is this scene from? Two guys sitting in a diner opposite one another in a 4-top booth. The booth is next to large plate glass window through which can be seen ordinary background street activity. It is daytime. One of the 2 guys orders a sandwich. The waitress responds with "We don't sell that kind of sandwich here!" Same guy goes on to order the same sandwich and the waitress repeats her inability to sell the man what he wants. This back-and-forth exchange escalates through 3 or 4 iterations as volume and frustration mount. Then, he seems to give up; he has reached a dead-end with this woman. His demeanor changes as he begins to lead her into believing he might consider a different selection. Finally the guy asks if she sells one kind of sandwich (she does) and if she also sells another kind of sandwich (she does). He then orders one of each and instructs her to take one or two items off of the first sandwich, add them to the second sandwich, throw the first sandwich away, and serve the second sandwich to him, thereby fulfilling his initial request. I thought this was Jack Nicholson in "One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest," but I've not been able to confirm this. Thanks for any info.

I remember seeing a Pinocchio movie in a movie shop once. The cover was one of those 'holographic' tye images, and when you turned it from side to side, 'Pinocchio' changed from a real boy to a puppet. The picture was of Gipetto and Pinocchio had his arms around his shoulders. Does anyone know which Pinocchio movie this was, and could you possibly provide a link to its IMDb page? I've searched there but I can't find it.

Answer: It's 'The Adventures of Pinocchio' from 1996 starring Jonathan Taylor Thomsas of 'Home Improvement' fame. You should be able to find it searching either the movie name or Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Once you get to the movie page, you can then click on DVD Details in the sidebar menu to see the cover you've described.

I need help locating a movie that I can't remember the title to. I thought the main actress was Marisssa Jaret Winokur, but looking at her filmography, it doesn't seem to mention it. I saw the movie years ago I think it was on the Hallmark Channel. What I remember is this. Two young women, who are best friends, are at an ice skating rink, not skating they are just talking. When one (whom I thought was Marissa Winokur) sees a young man whom she falls in love with at first site. Finding out all about this man becomes an obsession with her. She finds out where he lives and even rents an apartment across the street from his place so that she can spy on him. She even somehow sneaks into his apt. to find out more info. She does know that they like the same candy which is Sugar Babies. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I just want to find out how the movie started and ended. Thanks.

Answer: The made for TV movie is 'Babycakes' starring Ricki Lake as Grace. She loves a subway conductor, Rob, played by Craig Sheffer. It begins with her seeing him on the subway everyday and falling for him. She eventually orchestrates a way to meet and talk to him, they date, they break up because he has a fiancee, even though he doesn't love the fiancee anymore. Several months later, Rob sees Grace on the subway, chases after her, catches up with her and kisses her. The End.

For all you filmsleuths - Does anyone know what this film is called? It is about a little girl who is deaf. The film is in black and white and the only bit I can remember is her being shouted at and not being able to hear. Very vague I'm afraid.

Sarah Davis

Chosen answer: In the first scene of "The Miracle Worker" (1962), Helen Keller's parents discover she's deaf and blind when they clap and shout at her in her crib. There are two other films with the same plot. Johnny Belinda (1948) starring Jane Wyman and Lew Aryes. A girl living in backwoods rural community, has everyone believing she is dumb. She grows up a wild child, Aryes plays a teacher who realises her condition and teaches her how to sign. The other is the Story of Esther Costello, a young girl is rendered deaf and mute by an accident. Joan Crawford plays a wealthy woman who takes pity on her and takes to the big city to educate her. Both are soap opera dramas.

I love the song 'I've Got A Name' by Jim Croce and am sure I've heard it in a movie or on a movie soundtrack. Could anyone please help me in locating said movie?

Answer: According to IMDb, that song was in the movie "The Last American Hero". (1973) Unfortunately, there is no soundtrack recording for this movie. It's also used in Invincible with Mark Wahlberg, during the opening credits.
