The Jungle Book (1967)

Question: Since Bagheera knows where the village is, why not just take infant Mowgli there and save everyone a lot of trouble?

Rob245

Answer: The animals considered man a strange creature and did not understand their ways, like wearing clothes and shoes. They were scared when Mowgli brought them fire. They only knew jungle ways, they figured the humans would eat him, like any small creature left on his own. Plus they knew man as a hunter and killer.

Answer: He does say in the beginning of the movie that a village wasn't close by he knew where it was but it would have taken him several days to get the baby there. Plus the baby was going to need nourishment, or he would have died.

Spider-Man (1994)

Answer: The producer, John Semper Jr., claimed that he couldn't imagine Chameleon risking revealing his identity by using his real voice. Chameleon can speak in his true form but simply chooses not to.

Question: How is it possible the doctors at Arkham can keep being fooled by the likes of Poison Ivy, Two Face, The Riddler, etc., who're only pretending to be cured? Surely they could tell when they're faking.

Rob245

Answer: The problem is that you're trying to force real-world logic into a series with heavy sci-fi/fantasy elements and broad storytelling. Would a real-world psychologist be able to tell when someone is faking? Possibly. But that doesn't make for fun storytelling, especially for a fantasy-heavy series aimed predominately at children. This is one of those cases where the audience is merely expected to suspend their disbelief for the sake of entertainment. And I can tell you that as a kid who watched this show when it first aired in the 90's, I personally never even thought about it.

Star Wars (1977)

Answer: Hands aren't necessary for force usage - it's more a gesture to aid concentration (or for effect, or simply because it looks good on film). During Luke's fight with Vader in The Empire Strikes Back for example, Vader is flinging large objects at Luke without removing his hands from his lightsaber at all.

Halloween II (1981)

Question: Why does Michael waste time leaving "Samhain" on the blackboard and killing all those hospital people? He's able to slip all over the place so all this extra killing seems pointless.

Rob245

Answer: Michael is insane. It's no different from him killing all the people in the first movie and setting up all the elaborate things he set up like the tombstone and the bodies. In the context of the movie, he's simply driven to kill and do evil things on his way to his goal.

Question: I've heard they're a paper company but what do they make exactly? Just paper? Nothing but copy paper or do they make other stuff as well?

Rob245

Answer: They're a paper and office supply company. I'm pretty sure they never actually make the paper. But their main clients are businesses and corporations, not individuals, so they would sell business cards, pre-printed paper with letterhead, and other office supplies that they get directly from the paper or supply manufacture. They're basically the same as Office Max or Staples, but without stores for individuals to go and buy 1 pack of printer paper or a chair.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Question: Just where did the militia get the money for all their weapons and gear? The only rogue who's got good money is The Penguin, and he doesn't seem capable of necessarily funding a whole army.

Rob245

Answer: All the villains financed the Arkham Knight: Penguin, Two Face, Harley, Scarecrow. This is why Two-Face and Penguin stayed in Gotham and risked getting gassed to rob banks and run guns; they'd dangerously low on funds.

Answer: The Arkham Knight is behind the whole thing. He probably financed it somehow. Given who he turns out to be, probably from stolen drug money.

Halloween Kills (2021)

Question: Why does Michael head back to his old house and why does Karen go inside it by herself?

Rob245

Answer: It was his own personal man cave, he was born and raised there. It was the only place he felt safe and secure. In just about every "Halloween" film he always returned to his home. It belonged to him. I personally believe Karen went there to get a feel for the place, trying to make sense of everything. Why does a normal kid turn into a ruthless killing machine, was it just him or was it the house itself.

Question: How could Shredder survive that fall long enough to touch some of the ooze to heal himself?

Rob245

Answer: This is where comic book logic meets real-life physics. He was wearing a giant metallic, robotically augmented suit of armor. The idea is that this protected him enough to survive long enough. They do similar fuzzy physics with Iron Man from time to time. In real life, the reason fighter jets can't fly faster than they do is that they're carrying a living blood-filled water-balloon inside that they can't risk bursting. The fact is that sudden acceleration/deceleration could easily liquify a human's brain and dislodge internal organs. But comic book logic determines that if we can avoid the obvious immediate damage of impact, the human will survive. We see it with Superman catching someone mere feet from the ground, and they survive rather than showing them as being impaled by two arms jutting straight up, or sliced in three if the arms are held horizontally. All they have to do is suggest that he remained alive, though possibly hanging from a thread, until he's able to touch the ooze.

Answer: There have been many reasons they maybe didn't want to come back for a sequel. Or sometimes actors are too busy working on another movie and it interferes with their filming schedule.

Charlie's Angels (1976)

Answer: If referring to the blonde in the first movie, that was Elisabeth Shue, not Kristy Swanson.

Okay my mistake but did they decline returning or what?

Rob245

Answer: Part II was mainly focused on the storyline in Okinawa. Miyagi speaks with Heller on the phone briefly (though she's not seen or heard) to say he will take care of Daniel on the trip. She was not essential to be in this film.

Answer: To add to the previous answer, Elisabeth Shue went back to Harvard to continue her studies which is why she doesn't appear in the sequel.

Answer: Ali was originally only supposed to have a very small role in Part 2. Elizabeth Shue declined to reprise the role because she was studying at Harvard at the time. I can't find any explanation online as to why Randee Heller was not in Part 2 and was barely in Part 3.

BaconIsMyBFF

Answer: Like all studio executives they think mixing things up by bringing in new characters into different settings would keep the franchise fresh. Most of the sequels from the 1980's were given minor or major cast changes.

Double Jeopardy (1999)

Question: How is Libby able to be out in the prison yard without wearing her prison uniform shirt and instead wearing a dark green tank top? This allowed in prison or what?

Rob245

Answer: At that point she has been imprisoned for a few years. She had likely set up a good rapport with the guards over the years. She was likely on her best behavior, knowing that would be considered when her parole hearing came. Prisoners on good behavior are often afforded certain instances where some rules can be bended, which would be up to the discretion of the guards. Exercising was a routine for her that went on for years. If she wanted to run in a tank top, I'm sure that was of very little concern to the guards after a while.

Divergent (2014)

Question: Why does Natalie look upset at the end of the Choosing Ceremony? The book says she smiled at Tris. That and why is Jeanine presiding over it? Marcus did this in the book.

Rob245

Answer: For one, Natalie is upset that both Tris and Caleb have chosen different factions from her and Andrew's, which means they will have little future contact with their children. Also, Tris chose Dauntless, the faction that Natalie was born into and chose to leave. The movie audience has to be able to see how Natalie truly feels about this and a smile would give the wrong impression. Also, Jeanine presiding over the Choosing Ceremony instead of Marcus is a common book/movie type of change that often occurs in films. Here it introduces and places emphasis on Jeanine and foreshadows the importance her character will play.

Cruella (2021)

Question: Why did the Baroness kill Estella's adoptive mother? Why not just give her money and whatever help she needed?

Rob245

Answer: The Baroness probably thought that if she gave Estella's adoptive mother money and help that time, she would keep asking for more and more money under threat of revealing the secret that the Baroness was the girl's real mother. Killing her meant one less person who knew her secret and could hold it over her.
