Eric Sykes, who played Mr. Tuttle is almost completely deaf and blind, and was 78 at the time the film was made. Although his part was not very demanding, it was played so well, you would never guess that he could neither see nor hear.
Mr. Tuttle is also the name of the housekeeper from another haunted-house movie, "The Changeling" (1960).
