Continuity: In the scene where the Spaniard is beating up all the guys that Maverick paid off he ties one guy's neck to a post with his whip. As the shot changes you see the whip go only around his neck, but in the last shot of the scene it's around neck and post again.

Maverick (1994) - 29 mistakes
Directed by Richard Donner, starring James Garner, Jodie Foster, Mel Gibson (add more)
Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Mel Gibson tumbles over the cliff, right along his boot, which is in the air, a safety harness is visible on Mel Gibson, which is best viewed in slow motion. (As per MM's rules, slow motion is permitted in order to view significant things such as crew/equipment and revealing mistakes.)
Continuity: During the first scene when Maverick is being hung - the Spaniard drops the bag of snakes - in the next long shot there is a hat on the ground at the hoofs of the Spaniard's horse which mysteriously disappears in the next camera shot.
Revealing: When Maverick is pulling the dead stage coach driver up to the roof of the coach, watch the driver's right hand - he grabs the railing to help push himself up to the roof.
Continuity: When the bad guys lock Maverick in his room on the Lauren Belle, the camera shooting from outside the room shows the door moving a few inches as Maverick tries to open it, but the camera shooting from inside the room shows that he can't move the door at all.
Other: Right before Bret meets Annabelle on the Lauren Belle (before the big game) the drummer in the band (he's on the far right) is just moving his drumsticks up and down, there's no drum set in front of him but you can hear the drums in the music being played.
Continuity: When Danny Glover and Maverick are looking at each other as if they knew each other, Danny's mask moves further down his face between shots.
Continuity: When the final game first starts you see a waiter walking to the commodore's table with 4 glasses of wine on his tray, the camera angle changes to a closeup of the table and you now see the same waiter with an empty tray picking up empty glasses. The camera angle changes to another perspective of the same table and you now see the same waiter delivering those original 4 drinks.
Other: During the scene when the trio is attempting to rescue the mission women's money, Maverick goes on a rant on how he is outmatched in bullets when set up against the thieves. He complains that he only has six, so he takes Ms. Bransford's gun as well, yet when the shooting finally begins, he fires about fourteen shots from his six-shooter before pulling out his second gun.
Other: In one of the final scenes where Maverick is having a bath/sauna, enjoying his victory, you see a man walk past with only a towel on. As the man climbs the stairs, his towel opens a little bit and you could see he is wearing white underwear or briefs. In those times that kind of underwear did not exist.
Factual error: Maverick and the rest of the poker players throughout the movie are using plastic poker chips. You can tell by the sound they make when thrown. Poker chips during that time were made out of wood.
Continuity: In the stagecoach when Maverick feels the driver's right hand and says he's dead. He climbs out the window of the coach and the driver's right hand is back in his lap holding the reins.
Continuity: When Maverick walks into his room at the beginning of the movie after playing poker, he doesn't shut his door, but it is mysteriously shut when Anabell knocks on it a couple of seconds later.
Continuity: Maverick's hotel room undergoes a strange change after Annabelle enters. Originally there is an open window in the wall to the right of the bed. Later there is a plain wall with a shadow cast by a window across the room.
Continuity: In the second round of the first poker game the guy with the very pronounced chin is holding his cards close to his face. In close-up a cigarette appears between his fingers, which is gone again in the next shot.
Character mistake: After Maverick gives the "actors" their hundred dollars, he says "News travels fast in the Old West." Why would he refer to the west as "old" when, for him, it's the present? This is an expression that didn't come about till later on, when the west BECAME old.
Revealing: In the scene where Maverick is 'taken away' to get his hands chopped off by his Indian friends, there is a vehicle driving down a highway in the distance. It can be seen in the far background, but it is obviously an automobile.
Continuity: In the opening 'flashforward' scene, when Maverick is hung, the rope is thrown over a big branch and tied to the trunk. When the plot arrives at this point again the rope has been thrown over a small branch, which breaks off when the horse walks off and Maverick falls down. Furthermore, since his foot is stuck in the stirrup the horse drags him across the ground with the branch in tow, which should not be possible since the rope should still be tied to the trunk.
Continuity: When Annabelle tells Maverick that she is short of $4000 to enter the big game he goes and extorts money from the Russian Duke. When he hands it over to her he holds a small bundle of bills, but when the camera angle changes the money is fanned out. Plus, when you pause the DVD you can count only eight $100 bills.
Continuity: Maverick brings the runaway carriage to a screeching halt at a rather straight, even edge of a canyon. In a wide shot from above the carriage is standing on rocky ledge.
