The human excrement into which youngest Jamal jumps in the "toilet escape" sequence was actually chocolate.
Dev Patel, who plays Jamal the main character, is the only actor from the U.K. After an extensive search in India, the Director, Danny Boyle, went back to England and found his man after one of his kids suggested using "that guy from (the English TV show) Skins".
Jamal's childhood hero, the actor Amitabh Baachan, was actually the original host of Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who Wants to be a Millionaire?) in real life.
