It is impossible to keep a canoe upright on a surface as solid as the ice/snow down the hill to the hotel. [Snow is not very solid. The keel of the canoe could easily dig far enough into snow to stay upright. We get lots of snow here, and I've had friends ride their canoe down the hill in winter.]

The views from the security cameras would be horribly out of focus looking at something that close, and would be impossible to mistake for a real image. [Not really. Security cameras are auto-focus, and are able to focus on close ups.
