Superman Returns (2006) - 35 mistakes

This movie follows on from Superman II, meaning that in effect the movies Superman III and IV never happened, which we should all be grateful for. As such no continuity mistakes relating to the later two films are valid.

Other: In the scene where Kitty's car (a 1966 Ford Mustang) goes out of control, the horn sounds when she presses the center of the steering wheel. The horn buttons on those cars were at 3, 6 & 9 o'clock at the edges of the steering wheel.

Continuity: When Superman grabs the falling sculpture-globe the aerial view shows the hood of the cab on the left is undamaged. From a ground level view, the hood is severely damaged.

Revealing: The radio in Ma Kent's house in Kansas shown in several closeups at the beginning of the movie has Australian locales and stations labeled on the dial, such as the label "QLD" for Queensland. The movie was filmed in Australia.

Other: After Superman lands the plane he flies towards the door but casts no shadow, either on the ground or on the plane.

Continuity: After the plane has landed in the stadium and Superman is checking if the passengers are all okay, note the speaker's glasses. They alternate between being very crooked to being perfectly straight.

Factual error: About 11 minutes into the film, Luthor's yacht is seen in heavy seas in the Arctic. The helo on the helo deck has its rotor blades extended. This would cause immediate damage to them so is never done, even on carriers - the helicopter wouldn't be able to fly properly.

Continuity: When Lois Lane and Lex Luthor are talking on the ship, the knot on his tie changes throughout the scene.

Continuity: In the scene when Superman is entering the baseball stadium from above holding the 'plane, we see a quick shot looking down from above the 'plane. The field is empty of players.

Continuity: In the scene where Superman is trying to prevent the plane from crashing he is holding the nose of the plane and bits of it start to crumble in and fall apart or away. Once the plane is safely on the ground within the ballpark the scene shows the plane from the side where there is no damage to the nose.

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Martha Kent investigates the crystal ship, there is a fuzzy outline of a crew member behind the truck.

Continuity: In the scene where Lois and Jason are going to the hospital to visit Superman, Jason's hair is wet outside as they are walking toward the hospital. Once inside however, his hair is dry.

Other: In the credits, just before the listings for the transportation crews, "Post production" is misspelled as "Post Poduction".

Continuity: In the sequence with the kryptonite continent, Superman plunges under water, when he comes back up, his hair is soaked, then throughout the next few shots, it switches back and forth of being out of place and being "super" hair.

Continuity: When Superman is flying over the sea trying to locate Lois, his hair is fluffy. He suddenly stops and there's a brusque cut where a close-up of him shows his hair brushed and perfect.

Continuity: When Luthor is showing Lois maps of the new continent he intends to create, the final map initially shows a large 'state' marked out in the centre of the star-shaped island, with several other territories making up the points of the star. The shot changes as Luthor heads above deck, and we see the map behind him, but now the borders of the territories have changed and the central state takes up less space.
