Someone on Leverage's writing staff is a Dr. Who fan. When the team is on the escalator at the airport, Hardison asks Nate over the ear piece, "What IDs have you got on you?" Nate replies, "Let's see, we've got Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, and I have a Tom Baker." Sophie chirps, "Oh! I have a Baker as well!" Nate and Sophie then board the plane as Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baker. This was the first of what would become a running gag: the Tom Baker alias and several other Who references recur throughout the series.

Eliot Spencer interrupts Nate Ford's practice shooting after he has tries to discourage Nate from killing Victor Dubenich. Nate fires two shots from his fathers five shot gun. At the conclusion of what Eliot says, Nate turns and fires four more shots from the gun - one extra bullet than the gun would actually hold. He confirms near the end of the episode that his gun holds five bullets.

The First Contact Job (series 5)

In Season 5 Episode 3 titled "The First Contact Job", Elliot tells the scheming scientist James Kanack (a guy who is trying to locate alien signals and have them contact him) that his name was Will Ryker. Will Ryker is the name of the First Officer in Star Trek: The Next Generation, played by Jonathan Frakes, who directed this episode.
