Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Continuity mistake: Hugh Davenport runs off when the two police officers walk by. Jack comments on that; in the first shot, Florence lowers her hand while the wind blows. Second shot, both hands hold the evidence bag mid-waist and there's no wind. (00:20:30)

Other mistake: Something happened to Daisy Anderson, so everyone starts looking for her car. JP says it is locked, but in the close-up of Jack looking inside from the window, you can see the knob of the lock is pulled up. That car is unlocked. (00:06:50)

Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Factual error: The 1966 Ford Mustang 289 belonging to the victim has registration plates from Hawaii, but "DY 536 HR" does not follow the correct format for Hawaiian license plates at that year, or any year for that matter.

Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Other mistake: The day of the murder was February 1st 2018, a Thursday, exactly as stated also by the answering machine early in the episode. When Jack checks out (really really late, while any investigator would have easily worked with that data right away, asking them to the provider even, together with the cell phone info) the victim's satnav, it says that her 1 PM trip happened "Sat", a Saturday. Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Continuity mistake: When Jack and Florence talk to Hugh, Florence's top when she is shot from behind has the two straps on her left shoulder about one inch apart, while they are joined close in the front views. The mistake goes on throughout the whole scene. (00:32:50)

Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Continuity mistake: Uncharacteristically, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson joins the police investigation, at least at the very beginning. He takes his jacket off, and his tie reaches slightly below the belt of his pants. When he finds the body, the tie is a couple inches above the belt. Technically he is off-screen for what amounts of few minutes of plot, but it'd be ridiculous to picture him undoing his tie and making a tighter knot while he's in the middle of a search in the woods - he'd have just removed the tie and pocketed it entirely if it was being a nuisance. Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Audio problem: When Jack and Florence talk to the club treasurer drinking lemonade, several times in shots where Ardal O'Hanlon is out of focus in the foreground you can hear his voice being dubbed in while he was doing simple a stand-in role without opening his mouth. (00:26:20)

Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Continuity mistake: When the police visit the club treasurer Charlotte Hamilton, in the opening wide shot Jack's tie curves sharply because of the wind, but before the cut the wind breaks and the tie gets down. However in the next shot his tie is all the way windblown. Likewise, Charlotte's bang in that same shot is messy and upturned, but is back to normal in the next one. (00:25:35)

Murder on the Day of the Dead - S7-E5

Continuity mistake: Jack and Florence are interrogating the instructor Adam Warner at the club. During the scene there are transitions between frontal views of the suspect and wide shots of the whole terrace with everyone sitting. Each time, Rory Fleck Byrne's hand switches place, being on the armrest in one shot, on the thigh in the next, etc. (00:18:25)

Erupting in Murder - S6-E1

Trivia: A bit of the episode has been cut for the streaming releases; at the end of the scene with Humphrey taking Martha's luggage, he would make a date with her for the next day, to cook dinner for her at 8. This has been eliminated probably because it created timing issues with 8 PM being too well lit (in contrast with the supposed timing of the murder) and the ending takes place at Catherine's for a cute drinking scene anyway. Question: Why did the cord on the wall phone in the police station change from straight in the early episodes to coiled later?

Answer: There's probably no particular reason. Sets and props on long-running TV shows often change as needed and for various reasons throughout a series run.
