Casey says about the "Nightmare on Elm Street" films that "the first one was scary but the rest sucked." The first film was directed by Wes Craven, the sequels weren't. He did direct "New Nightmare", but it doesn't really count as a) it's not called "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and b) is set outside the continuity of the other films, classing them all just as films compared to the "reality" of itself. Revealing: When the killer surprises Syd after she's come in from outside and locked the door, he tries to stab her with his left hand, misses, and hits the door right next to the chain in closeup. In wide shot (very quick shot) when Syd legs it, look at the killer and you can see he's holding a very badly bent knife in his right hand, nowhere near the chain.
