Scream VI (2023)

Continuity mistake: When Professor Crane is in the alley and the Ghostface voice says "No, it's not," she's scared by four people in Halloween costumes behind her. The way they're standing and walking by changes between shots.

Scream VI (2023)

Continuity mistake: When professor Crane is texting her date, at one point she reaches over and takes a quick drink in a wide shot. The editing is awkward. In the closeup, both of her hands are on her phone. Then, in the next shot, suddenly her left hand is reaching towards her drink. Then she starts to move her hand back towards her phone, but it cuts again, and she's instantly holding the phone in the EXACT same way as before. It looks like the shot of her taking a drink was cut in to break up the phone shot.

Trivia: When the therapist is watching TV shortly before he is killed, there's a VHS box sitting next to his TV labeled "Dead Meat." This is a reference to the YouTube channel "Dead Meat," in which husband and wife duo James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca do reviews and podcasts on horror movies and media. They're friends with the directors and also had a cameo in "Scream (2022)."

Trivia: Like other films in the series, "Scream VI" is loaded with "easter eggs" for horror fans. One extremely subtle one you may not notice... when the psychologist is attacked at his office by Ghostface, the door-knocking sound effect is actually taken directly from the 2022 slasher-movie "X," which featured "Scream VI" co-star Jenna Ortega.

Trivia: When Kirby and Mindy sit down and talk about horror movies, and Mindy alludes to the idea that some people think Stu Macher is really still alive. This is a reference to an extremely popular fan theory that Stu Macher, one of the original two "Ghostface" killers, is still alive and will return in a future film.

Trivia: The bodega in the film is called "Abe's Snake Bodega." This is a deep cut reference to original "Scream" director Wes Craven. In the early-to-mid 1970's, Craven worked as a crew member on several pornographic films to make ends meet, and he used the name "Abe Snake" as a pseudonym.

Trivia: The directors studied "Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan" during pre-production to figure out what they could do to avoid running into similar issues, as that film is widely disliked for failing to take advantage of its New York City setting. The directors jokingly said their biggest takeaway from that film was that they "wanted to make sure that we didn't have a boat in this!" (That film notoriously is mostly set on a boat, with only the final 20 minutes being in New York).

Trivia: Since the movie takes place around Halloween, during the subway scene, you can see random people dressed up in costumes as various horror movie characters and monsters. In at least one shot, you can also see a woman in the background dressed up as Grace from the movie "Ready or Not." "Ready or Not" and "Scream VI" were made by the same producing and directing team. Additionally, Samara Weaving, who played Grace in "Ready or Not," has a cameo in the movie as a film studies professor.

Scream VI (2023)

Trivia: The first film in the series in which Ghostface uses a gun while still masked. Up until this film, it was an "unwritten rule" in the series that while masked, Ghostface would only use classic slasher weapons like knives, or the environment around him to kill. Ghostface would only be allowed to use guns when unmasked. The directors decided to break this rule in order to make Ghostface feel like a bigger, much more realistic threat than ever before... he'd break his own rules to get his targets.

Scream VI (2023)

Trivia: The first credited acting role for Hayden Panettiere in five years. Panettiere had taken a four-year hiatus from acting starting in 2018 to work on her physical and mental health after a series of personal issues. When she found out the "Scream" franchise was being brought back in 2022, she called the directors and pitched the idea that her character Kirby could return in a future installment. While her cameo in that film was cut, the directors promised she'd be back for the sixth film.

Scream VI (2023)

Trivia: Kirby is the first character in the franchise to return alive after being supposedly "killed off." Her character was last seen gasping in a pool of blood in "Scream 4," and was loosely implied to have died. However, director Wes Craven loved the character and purposely avoided showing her dead body to make her death slightly ambiguous, in case they wanted to bring her back. A small blink-and-you'll-miss-it easter egg in the fifth film confirmed Kirby in fact survived.

Scream VI (2023)

Trivia: The first "Scream" movie without series star Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. Campbell decided not to return due to a contract dispute, feeling the pay she was being offered by the studio was insultingly low given her history with the series. Her castmates and the directors supported her decision. Campbell has not ruled out a return to the franchise in the future though, stating that if she liked the script and was being offered a fair paycheck, she'd be open to playing Sidney once again.
