Corrected entry: Back in the days before computer effects, giant painted backdrops were used, a few of these were used in the large scenes such as city hall and a few others.

Corrected entry: A miniature of the Batwing and the city were used to shoot the wide shots of the Batwing flying through the city.
Correction: We don't have the technology to build a full size, real life Batwing and fly it through a real life Gotham city. I doubt the movie would have the budget either. Not really trivia - how else were they supposed to make it?
