Bones (2005)

Show generally

Revealing mistake: The producers have not taken enough generic shots of the places the gang hangs out at; the Royal Diner, & the Founding Fathers. If paying attention (or, watching multiple episodes in a row), one will notice the same people wandering down the street an awful lot! As well, outside the Royal Diner, there's a weird-shaped street corner, that appears to force all traffic in front of the Diner. This would be due to the size of backlot being limited, and certainly doesn't look right.

Suggested correction: It can't be considered a mistake if the same people are seen frequently or traffic passes by the diner. The show takes place over 12 years. People will often walk past the same places.

Trivia: Throughout the show, almost all documents, including things that most people would just write on a Post-It note, are on the Jeffersonian Medico-Legal lab letterhead. That is very unusual behaviour for documents that are not official, legally-required. Day-to-day paperwork would be on regular, standard white blank pages. The cost of their fancy, logo letterhead being used all the time would be prohibitive in any other workplace.

The End in the Beginning - S4-E26

Factual error: Near the end, as Bones is typing her book, she hits the key to erase it - and all the text disappears from the screen (later, she says it deleted the whole book). No software allows a single keystroke to erase all current content (if all text had been selected first, then yes, a DEL keystroke would have done it - but nothing was selected) - that would be a feature too risky to allow in any commercial software package.

The Crank in the Shaft - S4-E6

Continuity mistake: Bones walks onto the lab platform - first, there's no beep from the card reader, and second, she comes up on the wrong side of the steps, where there is no card reader anyway. The mistake is that the production team seems to have completely forgotten about the requirement for card access to that platform. They've had card access required since Season 1; anytime someone doesn't swipe their card, alarms go off. (00:26:00)

The Pain in the Heart - S3-E15

Character mistake: Zach, from his hospital bed, says he used 3 grams of the monomer to make the explosion. 3 grams of a powder would be a very small amount; less than a teaspoonful. But when he actually did use it, he took a loose amount in a large tablespoon. Zach would have carefully measured it in order to be precise; but he did not. So this is a factual error in what he says; it is also a character mistake in that Zach is the personification of technical accuracy, and would never take a casual spoonful - especially of an explosive.

Man in the Outhouse - S4-E3

Other mistake: Early in the episode, when the body from the outhouse is in the lab, the gang are all wearing bio-hazard suits. Sweets' suit has an opening along the rear-left section of the facemask - perhaps 3" long, and a half-inch high - making the point of the suit completely useless. (00:05:10)

The Knight on the Grid - S3-E8

Other mistake: The Gorgomon's bank vault discovered earlier in this season, is cluttered with 'stuff'. But in this episode, Zach discovers that multiple mirrors in the area were placed with care (and not randomly) to allow an video/audio device to see 'all parts of the vault'. First-I doubt any camera would be good enough to see much of anything except the one mirror it was looking at, much less multiple mirrored views (Zach used a laser to show the mirror positions). Second-the Jeffersonian staff are examining all the 'stuff' - they'd have to move some things to use equipment, etc. to check them out. It can be assumed they would have put things back in their original place/position, but it would have been impossible to re-place everything in so precisely the same position that the view, via multiple mirrors, would be the same.

The Knight on the Grid - S3-E8

Continuity mistake: When Bones is dragged from the taxi after the explosion, she finds a tooth lodged in her arm (from bomb shrapnel). But she was pulled down for safety by Booth just before it went off, and was not exposed to the shrapnel - she was protected by the car door, and nothing was in a direct line to her. Added to that is the fact that her LEFT arm was hit - the arm that would have been on the 'inside/centre' of the front seat (the bomb went off on the right side of the car), and on which she was most likely lying - completely protecting that part of her body. Soccer Mom in the Mini-Van - S3-E2

Other mistake: When Hodgins runs up to the platform near the end, to discuss the debris of the watch, the security card reader goes off (as if someone were swiping their card). But there's nobody near it, and we see Hodgins step up the centre of the stairs, nowhere near the machine. About 30 seconds later, Angela comes up as well, but we hear the reader beep, and within a second or so, she's already well up on the platform, much further than possible based on her casual walking speed coming into the scene. Show generally

Continuity mistake: The person responsible for background shots while anyone is in a car driving, is grossly negligent in their continuity. Very rarely do Bones & Booth drive down a street without the background changing rapidly from urban to rural streets, and back. In a Season 1 episode, they're driving through a flat desert, with nothing in the background except scrub - and then suddenly, a mountain appears in the middle of the shot.
