There is a sound effect which is used twice. It's first used in Revenge of the fallen when Optimus breaks Megatrons arm and shoots him with it. Megatron makes a growling noise during the slo-mo shot of parts falling off his face, after that optimus blasts him through the ancient building. It's then used in Dark if the moon during the shot Just after Sentinel is floored by a rocket from a soldier, he runs away on all fours and transforms into his alt mode and is then tackled by Optimus. During Sentinel's transformation the growling sound effect is used again. See more...

Factual error: In the highway chase scene, when Hatchet knocks down some signs for the other two Dreads to use them as ramps, the simple structure supporting the signs changes to a far more elaborated one when the Decepticons launch from it. The signs are even replaced with actual platforms, much longer, wider, and with different angle and separation than in the previous shot.

Revealing: During the scene where Bumblebee says goodbye to Sam, Bumblebee is leaning with his right arm to the construction. When the camera rotates, you cleary can see the his hand is moving through the structure, making it a flaw in the CGI.

Continuity: During the chase with the black GMC's, the Ferrari autobot has black rims. When they finish the chase, the Ferrari now has chrome rims.

Continuity: When Sam is first shown at his new flat and the two small robots appear, Sam has a small argument with them, and takes one of the robots in his hand to put him on the floor, but in between these two shots Carly walks in front of the camera thus focusing our attention on her, but if you look at Sam putting the robot down, there is nothing in his hand. And when it's only him in the shot again the robot comes back. They must have missed adding the CGI maybe because he was in the background of the shot at the time.

Continuity: In the scene with Richard Nixon speaking to the Apollo astronauts, the TV showing the phone call shows a lamp behind his head, and the seat being right behind him. But if you look at the actor sat there, there is no lamp, and the angle of the camera shows the chair would not be in shot.

Factual error: Several references are made to objects being on the dark side of the moon. The moon's rotation is locked into its orbit, meaning the same side of the moon always faces toward Earth. The dark side is simply the side facing away from Earth (which doesn't always make it dark since it receives sunlight when the moon is between Earth and the sun). For plot purposes, the Ark has to have landed on the dark side of the moon or else it would be visible using Earth telescopes because it is so big. But when we see Decepticons hidden on the dark side of the moon crawl out of the dust, Earth is floating in the background, which would be impossible since Earth is not visible from the dark side of the moon.

Factual error: After Sam and Seymour visited the Russian cosmonauts, they were attacked on the Interstate by three Decepticons disguised as dark SUVs. During this part of the movie, they are in the Washington DC area. However, during the chase, a green interstate sign is passed by and knocked down that is for I-88 to Aurora. This interstate is in the Chicago area.

Factual error: When the Autobots return to the moon in the present day to retrieve Sentinel Prime, they pass by the Apollo 11 lunar module (LEM). The LEM consists of an upper part (ascent stage) that houses the astronauts, and a lower part (decent stage) that holds the braking rocket used to land on the moon. When leaving the moon, the ascent stage blasts off, leaving just the decent stage on the moon. In the film, the entire LEM is shown sitting on the moon, which is impossible since the astronauts came back to earth.

Revealing: Right after Sentinel finishes his speech at the tower, there is a shot where a lot of ships are shooting at buildings, but when they smoke from the explosions is gone, none of them is damaged. Factual error: Neil Armstrong's first step onto the moon as depicted in this film is incorrect. In real life he descended the LM ladder until he was standing on top of the little dish at the end of the landing leg. He then jumped back onto the ladder (the lower rung of which was a few feet up) to see if he could climb back up. He then jumped back down to the LM footpad. Then he stepped off into the dust to create the first footprint on the moon. The film shows him climbing down to the lower rung of the ladder, then just jumping into the dust where the initial footprint is immediately trampled by his movements.

Continuity: *Spoiler* After Cybertron is pulled into Earth's orbit, they show that it can be seen from the earth's surface, pretty much the entire sky is taken up with Cybertron. However, in several scenes afterwards the sky is shown in the background as being crystal clear again.

Continuity: In the highway chase scene, one of the Decepticons knocks down the freeway sign which causes the signs, originally facing the on coming cars, to flip away from them. The other two Decpticons then use the signs to as a ramp to get further down the road. This should be impossible because the signs didn't land that way. Factual error: While trapped in the toppling building, our heroes use bundles of computer cabling to keep themselves from sliding out. While bundles of cable are common around the US, they are against code in Chicago, which requires them to be in conduit in a plenum ceiling. Conduits would have easily prevented the bundles from crashing through an acoustic ceiling. And yes, that is a plenum building.

Continuity: After Ironhide crashes into the two remaining Dreads, both of them transform. We get a close-up of one of them, who transforms over a lamppost, about 10 feet above it. The next shot has him past the lamppost, and at the same height as the lantern itself - instantly.

Factual error: The ticker message received at "National Security Command" at the Pentagon at the beginning of Transformers: Dark of the Moon incorrectly lists a date of 7-10-62. John Kennedy is then shown giving his famous "Moon Speech" before Congress, setting a goal of sending a man to the moon and returning him safely to the earth. The only problem is that Kennedy made this speech on May 25, 1961.

Revealing: When Optimus has his 'rage' on Wacker Drive, you can see that cars that are being flipped not entirely by volition, since some of them (most notably the red BMW before he cuts a Decepticon clean in half) aren't even touched by Optimus or any Decepticons.

Continuity: During the freeway chase, there is a shot with Hatchet landing on a car on the opposite side of the freeway. This shot has all sorts of poles on the center guardrail, and structures in the background. Then the poles in the center disappear, and the white-ish buildings in the background change into a bridge.

Audio problem: In the Russian bar scene the female bartender cycles a pump action shotgun at Dutch when she is holding a double barrel shotgun. Dutch then disarms her, when he turns the shotgun back on her you can hear a pump action shotgun being functioned and an empty shell hitting the floor. Dutch is holding a double barrel shotgun in the scene.

Plot hole: In the scene where Sentinel Prime resurrects and attacks Optimus, Optimus comforts him in English. From what I remember from the first part, the Autobots say "We've learned Earth's languages through the World Wide Web". But how come Sentinel responds to and speaks in English immediately after he's waken from NDE? He crashed before Megatron himself crashed on Earth 10,000 years ago, so there would have been no way Sentinel could have learned English anyway, since it didn't exist at that time.

Continuity: When the Autobots return from their fake deaths, Optimus shoots down an enemy ship by destroying the right turbine, making it crash down and saving Sam. But later on, Bumblebee starts it up and flies it with no apparent damage.

Plot hole: The film tries to claim that all six lunar missions were to collect samples from the Ark. However, the missions had landing coordinates hundreds of miles apart. If only 35 people knew about the secret mission, that leaves hundreds of thousands of others who believed they were working toward actual lunar exploration, meaning it would be very difficult to fake telemetry data without someone noticing. Also, there are long range photographs of the different landing sites showing the landing craft at their true lunar landing spots.

Continuity: When Sam is telling Bumblebee about how Mearing called him he is 'just a messenger", he gets a jug of milk out of the fridge which is practically full. After Wheelie says "The disrespect on this rock is criminal" the jug is suddenly only barely full. It is not missing the amounts which you can pour in a glass or drink in that time.

Continuity: During the final fight between Optimus and Sentinel, a long curved copper pipe going from Sentinel Prime's chest to his right arm disappears and reappears between shots. And it isn't torn of in the fight between only the Prime's, I cannot say if Megatron doesn't remove it later on.

Revealing: During the highway scene with the black GMC Decepticons chasing the Autobots, a number of civilian cars are flipped. If you look at the underside of a few of the cars, you can see the hole they use to launch a post to help flip the vehicle for the stunt. A brief puff of white smoke can also be seen on a Toyota Camry which is from the CO2 used to launch the post during the flip.

Continuity: During the Mexican Standoff, Ironhide finally forces the spike into the face of one of the Dreads and lifts him up by it. Pay attention to the red car underneath: when Ironhide smashes the Decepticon's face, the windshield is fine, but when he puts him down, the windshield is suddenly damaged - before the Decepticon lands.

Revealing: During the highway chase scenes there are two "out of sync" animation sequences of the Decepticons in action. 1) In the front view with all the cars facing the camera, the Decepticon robot on the right shoves the car sideways (to the right), however, the car flies into the air a second later and in the opposite direction. 2) The scene cuts to the side view of the Decepticon and you see him motioning to pick up a car and begin to toss it in the air. However, when he does this, his hand is empty and the car just flies just below him.

Other: When Sam and the others are in the building, and then sliding down the side of it, the angle at which the building is compared to the ground seems to change many times. The angle, rather than simply increasing gradually, goes from very large (when we first see the Decepticons firing at its base) to very small (when we focus back on the team inside the building and the chairs are only just starting to role across the room, indication that the building is barely slanted) and then back and forth between large and small depending on the angle of the shot when they are sliding down the side (and this is not just an impression due to the angle of the camera). When they then break through a window and come back into the building, the angle of the slant is again too small.

Continuity: After Sam and Carly are reunited, her hand keep altering from being very dirty and in Sam's face, and clean in Sam's neck.

Continuity: In the first scene, as Carly comes up the stairs, it is bright and sunny outside. As Carly leaves, it is raining, but when Sam walks outside and sees his parents, it's bright and sunny again.

Continuity: Just before Optimus Prime arrives in the street where he kills ten Decepticons in twenty seconds, there is a shot of Sentinel saying "It's our world now!", and he is looking out over that same street. When Sam comes out of cover to take a look at Cybertron, Sentinel is still on the building. But when Sam shouts "Optimus!" Sentinel is gone.

Continuity: When Sam leaves for his job interviews he sees his parents and drops his jacket, he then walks back into the apartment and comes back out with his jacket in his hands.

Continuity: After Optimus saves the day by shooting the Decepticon hovercraft, we get a small speech. When he says: ''For today, in the name of freedom'', his gun disappears. We never hear him throw it away, or see it lying around when Bumblebee transforms.

Continuity: When Sam's parents first show up, we see a shot of their RV with a car parked behind it, on the pavement. When they go to use this car to take him to his interviews it is now on a trailer behind the RV.

Continuity: When Sam first meets Dylan Gould at his showroom/office, there is a close up of Dylan using an iPad which he hands to his assistant. His assistant then folds her arms, covering the Apple logo. In the next shot it has been repositioned to show the logo.

Audio problem: In the scene where Dylan is explaining the Decepticon's plan to Carly, there is a shot of Sentinel Prime moving the control pillar into the tower. During this shot, if you look to the left, you can see that Dylan's mouth is not moving when he is supposed to be talking.

Continuity: When Sam and Dylan are fighting, the clock behind them changes to different times every shot. It starts at 00:40, then 02:25, 00:15 and 11:00 in the following shots.

Continuity: In the NASA radio room, There are two men standing beside a cabinet. One a white shirt and tie, the other in a full suit. When the shot cuts, they have instantly switched sides, and the one who doesn't wear a jacket, suddenly is wearing glasses.

Plot hole: In the scene where Sam and Carly are attempting to communicate to the military through the UAV drone, Sam tells them all about the Decepticons' plan to bring Cybertron into our atmosphere. But Sam was never there when Dylan explained the plan to Carly, and there was no time for Carly to have told him.
