Race With the Devil

Frank Stewart (Warren Oates) and his friend Roger Marsh (Peter Fonda) are preparing for a vacation in a recreational vehicle (RV) with their wives, Alice (Lara Parker) and Kelly (Loretta Swit). They are enthusiastic about their road trip and plan to explore the beautiful landscapes of Colorado.

As they drive into the countryside, the group parks their RV for the night in a secluded spot. While enjoying a campfire, Frank and Roger notice what appears to be a ritual taking place in the distance. They watch in horror as a woman is brutally murdered by a group of hooded figures. Realizing they've stumbled upon a satanic cult, they quickly flee the scene.

Shaken by the incident, they decide to report it to the local sheriff the next day. However, when they arrive at the sheriff's office, they meet a suspicious man who warns them to leave town immediately. Unnerved by the encounter, they choose to ignore the warning and continue their trip.

As they drive through the picturesque Colorado landscape, the group begins to feel increasingly paranoid. They notice unfamiliar vehicles tailing them, and their RV is repeatedly tampered with. In one incident, their dog is poisoned, further escalating their fears.

Desperate to escape their pursuers, Frank, Roger, Alice, and Kelly decide to take matters into their own hands. They arm themselves and devise a plan to outsmart the cult. They come up with a scheme to set a trap during a nighttime rally race.

At the rally race, they successfully capture a member of the cult. They interrogate him, learning about the deep influence the cult has, with connections reaching high levels of power. Realizing the severity of the situation, they are even more determined to expose the cult and survive.

Their pursuit intensifies as they are relentlessly chased by the cult members. In a series of thrilling car chases and confrontations, the group manages to outmaneuver their pursuers. However, they also lose their newly captured cult member, who is killed during a chase.

The group decides to head to the local airport, intending to fly out of the state and find safety. But the cult catches up with them once again, and a final climactic confrontation ensues at the airport. In a battle against the cult members, Roger sacrifices himself to allow Frank and the two women to escape.

Finally free from the clutches of the cult, the survivors board a plane, bidding their final farewell to their fallen friend. As the plane takes off, Frank, Alice, and Kelly reflect on their harrowing experience and the lives lost.

Continuity mistake: When the RV is driving to Amarillo towards the end of the film, the vehicle is coming towards a detour sign and we see a group of road workers, one of which is a bearded man with a cowboy hat and no t-shirt. But when we see a view from the RV going towards the detour sign, the bearded man is seen walking towards his colleagues.
