Continuity mistake: In the top of the ninth, as Harris struggles with his control a shot of the scoreboard shows both teams have 2 runs, 7 hits and no errors. Harris then walks the next batter to load the bases, and Vaughn is brought in to face Heywood, whom he strikes out. Thus the Yankees should still have 7 hits heading into the bottom of the ninth. Yet when the scoreboard is shown as the Duke comes in shows the Yankees with 9 hits. This means they somehow picked up 2 hits in between the half-inning, which is impossible. The only way to gain hits like that is if the scorekeeper changed two errors from earlier in the game into hits, but the scoreboard indicated there no errors were ever made in the game. (01:27:20 - 01:33:30)
Continuity mistake: When Vaughn enters the playoff game, the scoreboard introduces him with a glittery "Wild Thing" display, then reverts to showing the score by the end of his warm-ups. However, when Dorn talks to him on the mound prior to Vaughn's first pitch, the board again shows the glittery display. (01:29:40)
Continuity mistake: When Taylor is giving signs to Wild Thing while pitching to Clue Haywood in the one game playoff, he has a smudge of dirt on his pants from sliding. You can see it in the closeup shots of his signals on his left hamstring. When the view backs out, his uniform is completely white. (01:30:50)
Other mistake: After Vaughn strikes out Heywood in the playoff game for the third out, New York's first base coach remains in the coach's box as the players leave the field. He doesn't plan to coach for the Indians now, does he? (01:32:35)
Factual error: In the ball park the sign for NBC says channel 4. In Cleveland, NBC was and still is on channel 3. (Filming took place at the old Milwaukee County Stadium, former home of the Braves and Brewers, hence the NBC, WTMJ channel 4 sign. Still a mistake, but there's the explanation.) (01:33:40)
Factual error: When he bats, Jake uses a helmet with no earflap. In 1983, it was instituted that players must wear a helmet with at least one flap; however, it's possible that Jake is exempt from this rule under Major League Baseball's "grandfather clause," which allows any player who played before 1983 to continue using the flapless helmet. (01:34:40)
Revealing mistake: In the celebration scene at the end, there are multiple times when you see huge sections of the stadium with no people in them. The most obvious is when WMH jumps into Jake's arms. (01:39:05)
Continuity mistake: At the end, when they are celebrating, Wesley Snipes jumps into a player's arms. his helmet is on then knocked off but back on again in the next shot. (01:39:05)
Continuity mistake: After the Indians win the pennant, they show a shot of the crowd where Jake's girlfriend is. In the first shot there's a guy running down the stairs. The next time they show the stands he's running down again. (01:40:15)
Continuity mistake: In the last scene of the movie, when they all gather for the still shot, all the players have clean uniforms. When they all were shown moments before, all were dirty, especially Willie Hayes. (01:40:50)
Other mistake: During the opening credits the newspaper headlines say: "Can the ex-showgirl turn the team around?" If you read the article under the caption, it is describing a basketball game. (03:22:00)
Character mistake: The sign for the hotel where Jake is staying at in Mexico says Tengo Quarto's para Renta. The word is spelled wrong. It should say CUARTOS. Also, there is no apostrophe s in cuartos. It is plural, not possessive.
Other mistake: During the one game playoff against the Yankees, the runner Taylor picks off at first base has the same number as the batter who had just struck out. Also, the number they both wear has been long since retired by the Yankees and therefore no player could ever wear it again. Again, in the first game against the Yankees, the first base coach also has the same number, making it three Yankee players with the number 37.
Other mistake: When the waiter informs Taylor's ex that she has a phone call, he says "Call for you, Miss Russo" which is the character's real last name.
Suggested correction: She says "Ms. Weslin, there's a telephone call for you." Weslin is Lynn's last name.
Continuity mistake: With Vaughn pitching in game 121 (current record 60-60), he gives up a walk and then a double (according to Harry Doyle). Then he gives up the three-run homerun to Heywood - runners are shown running from first and third, and the guy from first is in a full sprint, which wouldn't happen on the shot that Heywood hit.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie when the Indians are playing the Yankees, in the 9th inning Hays is on 2nd and starts to steal 3rd. Taylor bunts the ball and the 3rd baseman and shortstop are shown in the camera view, but Hays is nowhere to be seen. He should have been in the camera shot as he had not reached 3rd base yet.
Other mistake: Roger says to Jake that he's going to be a free agent next year, which he's excited about and why he doesn't want to risk injury, but then when he learns of the owner's plan and that he'll be given his release next year, which is the same as free agency, he's upset. Plus you can't be given your release when your contract ends, which it must be if he thought he was going to be a free agent.
Continuity mistake: When Hayes scores the game winner in the tiebreaker, the home plate umpire is not wearing his cap. The cap is back on when he shouts "Safe! Safe!"
Audio problem: As Harry Doyle celebrates with his broadcast partner, one of them is heard shouting "I can't believe it!" but the dialogue doesn't match either men's lip movement.
Other mistake: Near the end of the movie, Ricky Vaughn strikes out the Yankees' best player, ending the inning. As they walk off the field, the Yankees' Third Base coach is still in the coaches' box. He has no need to be, he should be off the field.
