The Lion King mistake picture

Other mistake: During "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?", Simba's reflection in the water isn't very consistent - the rocks he's standing on are much closer to the water than they appear in the reflection. (00:58:45)

Continuity mistake: After we see a slow motion shot of Scar jumping through the wall of fire towards Simba, watch how Simba's teeth go from clenched to unclenched between shots as he hurls Scar over the cliff's edge. (01:19:40)

The Lion King mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the scene where young Simba and Nala are singing, "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," and right before making faces at Zazu, Nala steps into the water with both front feet, but in the next shot, all her feet are firmly on dry ground.

Continuity mistake: When Simba and the animals begin to tower up on each other towards the end of the song "I Just Can't Wait To Be King", a shot shows that the red elephants are close to the bottom of the tower. The camera begins to scan upwards and the antelope are towards the top where Simba and Nala show up. When the animals all fall and quick shots show how jumbled they get, a red elephant somehow ends up falling on top of an antelope's antlers which shouldn't be possible. (00:17:50)

Continuity mistake: When Scar is circling Ed the hyena during or just before singing "Be Prepared," from the front Ed's tongue is hanging out. But from the side/back view, where the tongue should still be visible, it's gone.

Revealing mistake: When Nala tells Simba that she is taking her bath, Sarabi (Simba's mother) tells him "And it's time for yours," and picks him up in her mouth. Her head was animated but not the rest of her body (which remains in a sitting position) so her neck appears to stretch a few feet to reach Simba.

Continuity mistake: When Shenzi and Banzai have Timon and Zazu cornered, Banzai's left paw jumps from the cave floor to the top of the ribcage prison between frames. (01:17:15)

Continuity mistake: During the scene where little Simba and Scar are talking about how Simba is "gonna rule it all" and Scar explains about the elephant graveyard, the pads of Scar's paws change shape several times. Sometimes the pads are as they should be, other times its covered with color. (00:13:05)

Continuity mistake: In the recent DVD release of the film that includes the new animated segment "The Morning Report", Simba is not drawn with whiskers. His nose also changes colour from the previous shot where he is walking and talking with Mufasa.

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Mufasa and Simba are at the very top of Pride Rock and Mufasa is explaining the kingdom to Simba, one of the hand written sequence markers on the gel print is not removed. In the shot that zooms in on Simba just after the camera pans around them, there are two frames where the number 45 appear just to the left of Simba's tail. (00:09:15)

Continuity mistake: When the three hyenas are chasing little Simba, Banzai, (a hyena) flies into a thorn patch. When he comes out, he is covered in thorns. Then he walks over to the edge with Shenzi, and all of the thorns are gone (the ones he didn't pull out). (00:40:20)

Continuity mistake: When Scar pushes Shenzi and Banzai into the geysers, they go flying across the cave. But when Scar is tiptoeing up the ridge, Shenzi is right next to him. The when all 3 are in the bone pile, she's there as well (with the long skull in the middle).

Continuity mistake: Towards the end of "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," eleven giraffes stand in a circular formation to launch Simba and Nala high into the air. But on their way back down in the next frame, an overhead view reveals ten giraffes instead. (00:17:00)

Other mistake: On the old Blu-ray cover of The Lion King, there are several mistakes. In the old version, Nala's face was different, as she had brown eyes instead of blue ones and had whiskers. Her head structure was also different and her eyebrows were larger. Rafiki's face is also different as well, his eyes are wide apart from each other and part of his nose is miscolored. While Simba's face is given a few addition in the new Blu-ray cover, Pumbaa had white eyes and Timon's head isn't facing to the front and didn't have dark eyelids. However, all of these mistakes were changed for the new Blu-ray cover.

Audio problem: In the scene where Sarabi gives Simba and Nala permission to go to the waterhole, Simba yells "Yeah!" and you can distinctly hear that Nala says "all right!" But it's animated so both Cubs appear to be exclaiming "Yeah!"

Continuity mistake: After cracking a joke about the food chain, Timon bursts into laughter and starts poking Simba with his elbow. Timon goes missing for the length of one shot but soon reappears in place, where he cuts his laughter short. (00:42:55)

Continuity mistake: During the opening sequence, a group of elephants are marching towards the camera, along with a flock of blue birds. Once all of the birds have run offscreen, another suddenly runs out from behind the lead elephant's foot, even though we saw that there was no bird there a few seconds before.

Continuity mistake: When Simba is running from the trio of hyenas that Scar sent out to kill him, he's forced to stop in his tracks at the foot of a steep cliff. Down at the bottom are thorn patches, and the sun casts a shadow on their right sides. Obviously this implies that it's setting on the left hand side of the cliff - and it's visible on that horizon moments later as he tumbles down the face. Once Simba clears the bushes and heads off into exile, Banzai shouts "If you ever come back, we'll kill you!" At this point notice how Simba is chasing the sunset, but now it's in an entirely different location - opposite the cliff face. (00:38:50)

Continuity mistake: When Timon starts singing "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?", he and Pumbaa are watching Simba and Nala retreat from behind a moss covered log. But from one shot to the next, Pumbaa switches positions to the log's opposite side. (00:57:55)

Continuity mistake: This is hard to see, but look at the whiskers on all the lions, the number of them changes about (I'm not exaggerating) 100 times, especially little Simba.

Pumbaa: Hey, Timon, ever wonder what those sparkly dots are up there?
Timon: Pumbaa, I don't wonder; I know.
Pumbaa: Oh. What are they?
Timon: They're fireflies. Fireflies that, uh... Got stuck up on that big bluish-black thing.
Pumbaa: Oh, gee. I always thought they were balls of gas burning billions of miles away.
Timon: Pumbaa, with you, everything's gas.

Question: We're only told about two males in the pride, Mufasa and Scar. Who was Nala's father? It can't be Mufasa because then she and Simba would either be siblings or half-siblings and they wouldn't have got together. And it can't be Scar because she called him by his name, not Dad, and she and Simba would still have been cousins.

Answer: Lions are not like humans, even though Disney tends to make them that way. It's rare for more than one or two full grown lions to be in a pride. Other males are in "bachelor prides" until they win a pride of their own. It's likely that Scar or Mufasa sired Nala.

Answer: It is possible that Nala is older than Simba and her mother was pregnant when a male, Mufasa, took over and she avoided getting killed. She could be the daughter of the previous male that Mufasa conquered as he opened the Pride Lands for him and his brother. Then, Simba was born a little while after Nala.
