Corrected entry: When he tells Greta that he would have got the burglar 10 grand, she storms off, and he says: wait I didn't understand the question, which is a lie, and he apparently can't do that.

Correction: He's not lying. When she asked him if that's justice, his history as a slimy lawyer at first made him think that she was asking if the settlement the burglar got was fair.

Phaneron

Corrected entry: The power of the wish is very inconsistent. Sometimes Fletcher has to be 100% honest, but sometimes he just can't tell a blatant lie. For example, when Miranda asks Fletcher if he enjoyed their sex, he says he's had better. When the judge asks Fletcher who beat him, he describes his own physical characteristics, deliberately fooling the judge into thinking he's talking about another person. Although it's not technically a lie, it's completely dishonest. If the power was consistent, in the former scene, Fletcher could've just said he enjoyed the sex. I'm sure he did enjoy it, even if he'd had better. So he would've been able to answer without lying, but without telling the full truth, like he did in the latter scene. Or alternatively, if the power was consistent, in the latter scene, Fletcher would've had to admit he beat himself.

Correction: He accurately answers the questions 100% honest each time. He has somewhat control of it, he can't lie but he can be clever about it. The after sex scene is an exception as he wasn't prepared for it, just like in the elevator and arriving at work. It was on his mind that he had better sex so it just came out at that point, honestly. But later he figures out he can't lie so he has to be clever about it. The judge asked him who did this to him, so instead of saying it was him he describes himself. This doesn't change the rules of the curse.

Corrected entry: Fletcher is physically incapable of lying, but he says "I'm kicking my ass" when he isn't literally kicking his own ass. His foot did not touch his ass.

Correction: He's incapable of lying but that doesn't mean he has to be literal about everything. The term "kicking ass" rarely involves a foot to the ass and just means a beating, which is what he was doing to himself.

Bishop73

Corrected entry: In the scene where Audrey is in the mini-van with Max, she has her seat belt on, then the camera cuts to Max, and when it returns to Audrey with her seat belt off.

Correction: They are in the car several times during the film. Which scene are you referring to?

MovieFan612

Correction: This mistake doesn't exist. The only seat-belt non-seat belt was with Max and that was already mentioned. Audrey wears her seat belt in every frame in the car with Max.

DetectiveGadget85

Other mistake: When Fletcher is attempting to force himself to write the word "red" on his desk, in the shot before the "blue" is revealed, his pen is not even touching the desk and his final pen movement is a curve which doesn't correspond to an exclamation point.

Suggested correction: He had already finished writing "blue!" by the time we see the shot of him holding the pen off the desk. He was probably making the motion of writing "red" (with the curve you see corresponding to the "d") not realizing that the pen wasn't touching the desk, and not realizing that he had already finished writing "blue." Hence his initial gleeful reaction-he thinks he's successfully beat the spell, until he sees the writing and realises he hasn't.

Corrected entry: In the scene where Fletcher is in jail and talking to his ex-wife and he is yanked off screen by a guard. If you look into the reflection in the window of the door behind him you can see him and the guard bump into the wall off screen. (01:08:50)

Correction: Okay, guard and Fletcher hit the wall... Is it a movie mistake? In movies nobody can hit the wall?

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Fletcher drives out of the parking garage almost causing a car accident, you can tell it's his stunt double, because his stunt double is wearing sunglasses and doesn't look too much like Jim Carrey. Then it shows a back view of Fletcher speeding away and his sunglasses are gone.

Suggested correction: There are no sunglasses on the stunt double.

Corrected entry: When Jim Carrey is chasing the plane with the flight of stairs, he is able to catch up to it. The guy who fixed it must have been one hell of a mechanic because flights of stairs don't go over ten miles per hour, while most planes get up to 50 miles per hour when taxiing.

Correction: Planes generally taxi around 20 knots, which is about 23 miles per hour. Although in most cases, stairs wouldn't need to be driven that fast, they can certainly go faster in the event that they need to be repositioned to a different part of the airport, they wouldn't hold up airport traffic by only doing 10 miles an hour.

Continuity mistake: When Fletcher takes his son to the office, they step out the lift and a woman in a purple suit is seen walking to the left. In the next shot, the same woman is walking to the right. (00:06:25)

Suggested correction: That's a different woman with a different hairstyle. The second lady's hair is up over her ears and the first woman's suit is a darker purple.

DetectiveGadget85

I don't think there's enough detail in the wide shot to say it's a different woman or not. She's seems to be carrying the same clipboard in the same way. Plus, in the next shot, the first woman should still be seen somewhere in the wide shot off to the left, and she's not.

Bishop73

Again. In the wide the woman's hair is up. You can even see a pin in it. It's not in the first shot. Also, she would not necessarily need to be seen in the wide shot. The first shot has them in the elevator, then there's a hallway, before they cross the doorway into the lobby. She would have already walked past the desk (notice the lamp) by the time they were a few inches out of the elevator. By the time they walked to the doorway she could easily be out of frame.

DetectiveGadget85

Impossible. The very short distance she walks takes her almost 2 seconds, and then she's off camera for maybe a second. The distance to the hall to be out of the shot is almost twice the distance she was just seen walking.

Bishop73

Depth perception. She's walking directly in front of the desk. She's not in the same spot as the second lady (in front of the lobby door). She walks across the screen before Max's feet leaves the elevator. The distance between the left side of the desk and off screen is fairly short and plenty of time for her to cross before they exit the elevator. Third time...different hairstyle. I'm pretty sure the second lady is even wearing a different shirt underneath her jacket too.

DetectiveGadget85

Continuity mistake: Fletcher checks his watch before he tells Max "It's 8:45". But in the last shot of the scene, as he hugs Max, his watch comes into view and shows 5:45.

Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Fletcher Reede: It depends on how long you were following me!
Cop: Why don't we just start from the top?
Fletcher Reede: Here it goes. I sped, I followed too closely, I ran a stop sign, I almost hit a Chevy, I sped some more, I failed to yield at a crosswalk, I changed lanes at an intersection, I changed lanes without signaling while running a red light and SPEEDING!
Cop: Is that all?
Fletcher Reede: [Forced.] No. I have unpaid parking tickets.

Trivia: In the scene where Carrey is in the stretcher at the airport, if you look in the back of the crowd to the right, you will see Fire Marshall Bill from In Living Color. He can be seen when Carrey's ex-wife is speaking to the officer speaking on a walkie-talkie. (01:16:11)
