Simon: Well, when you're a chipmunk, your parents take care of you for a week, then they take off.
Alvin: Our parents were hippies. They went to join a commune.
Continuity mistake: On top of the white cabinets / cupboards that run along the kitchen is a whole row of glass jars, vases, pots, etc. During the whole kitchen scene, the actual jars and pots that are on top of these cabinets move around and rearrange in different shots. In the close-up of Alvin pushing over the packet of Cheese Balls for instance; you can see that the jars and pots on the cupboard above are differently arranged than in other wide shots of the whole kitchen. Question: Throughout the course of the movie, why is Ian so obsessed with making money off the Chipmunks? After all, he lives in a mansion, has an outdoor pool, a nice car, and a group of house servants, and if he has enough money to afford that many extra toys for the Chipmunks when they arrive, any extra diamond or ring shouldn't be a problem for him.
Answer: Ian is a greedy "business man", no matter how much money he has he will always want more.
