Continuity mistake: When Q demonstrates the pen grenade to Bond, he says that it will explode after four seconds, when you click three times. But when he tests the pen, it explodes one second earlier. And when Grishenko is clicking the pen and Bond throws it away at the control station in Cuba, it explodes two seconds later. (00:49:55)

Revealing mistake: Whilst in Q's workshop, Bond places his envelope on Q's X-Ray Document scanner. If you pay close attention to the screen (it's easy to notice anyway) his flight ticket has got VOID written on it 4 times... (00:51:54)

Other mistake: When Natalia is messaging Boris for the first time, the keys she is pressing are not what appears on screen. For example, watch closely and she hits 2 buttons at the same time which when you compare it to a keyboard is the letters "p" and ";" However, the ";" never appears on screen. (00:55:00)

Continuity mistake: When Bond throws his gun on the bench in the sauna, the barrel is facing away from the towel. When Bond goes to get it a few moments later and Ontopov attacks him, the barrel is now facing the towel. (01:02:20)

Factual error: When Bond fights with Xenia in the sauna, she wraps her legs around his torso. He tries and fails to get them released, but he does create enough space between her legs which would, realistically, release the pressure on his body. (01:03:00)

Revealing mistake: When Bond takes Xenia off the hot coals and throws her onto the floor in the sauna, you can see that "Xenia" is a dummy. (01:03:40)

Factual error: In the cemetery, Bond encounters Alex Trevelyan, whom he thought had been killed in the chemical plant explosion. One of Treyelvan's henchmen shoots Bond in the right side of his neck with a dart but in the very next scene, and for the remainder of the movie, Bond's neck shows no sign of having been punctured. Revealing mistake: Just before Bond and Natalya are ejected from the Tiger, a mid-range shot reveals a pair of dummies in their place. (01:12:15)

Continuity mistake: When Bond and Natalia eject from the helicopter, you can clearly see two white parachutes. But when the capsule lands, in two scenes you see the parachutes being red and white. (01:12:20)

Continuity mistake: In the interrogation room, Ouromov takes Bond's gun and shoots Defense Minister Mishkin. While the gun is clearly aimed between Mishkin's eyes, he clutches his throat as he falls. (01:14:15)

Continuity mistake: When 007 escapes from Ourumov, he shoots dead several Russian soldiers (two of them from the floor), jumps through a window, and smashes through numerous walls in the tank, yet his suit when he gets into Trevelyan's train is perfectly dry-cleaned and unblemished. (01:15:15)

Factual error: When Bond and the girl are first escaping the general, they break into the archives room. Shortly after that, all the soldiers run into the archive room on the floor below Bond. The soldiers then chase Bond and the girl and while shooting at them through the metal grating floor, but none of the fluorescent light fixtures are ever shot out. (01:16:30)

Continuity mistake: In the shot where Bond crashes through the window in the St. Petersburg barracks building, there is a clear blue sky above. Right after that, the sky is grey, and the ground views of the St. Petersburg obviously had no sun shining on anything. (01:16:45)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Bond is escaping from the archives hall with Natalya, he jumps through a window. In the interior shot, his head breaks through the main semicircle crossbar of the window. When the shot switches to outside, the crossbar is intact along with the glass above it. After Bond's recovered, the window is visible in the top left corner and the top semicircle of glass is not there. (01:16:50)

Continuity mistake: When Bond and Natalya are being chased through the library by Orumov and his soldiers, Bond pulls out his belt and activates the piton with the high tensile cable. It goes into the wall just above the arched window. Before the camera angle changes to show the point of contact with the window, Bond is facing forward. As he hits the window he is suddenly facing backwards. Then as he exits the window, the camera outside shows him to be facing forwards again. (01:16:50)

Factual error: While James Bond is chasing the escaping Ourumov, in one shot he jumps into a T-72 tank and then continues chasing him. A tank such as that would take at least 15 to 20 minutes to start up, and the tank is not already running when he gets in. (01:17:25)

Factual error: In the tank chase scene, Bond drives through the concrete wall with the turret forward. This would absolutely wreck the gun. Also later the tank is sliding around on the road. A real tank wouldn't do this, it would rip up the road. (01:17:30)

Trivia: When Bond is playing baccarat with Xenia, his last hand, and only winning hand against her, is two face cards (a king and a queen if I remember correctly) and a six. In baccarat, face cards and tens are worth 0, and cards under ten are worth their number. So, his cards are, in order, 0-0-6, the code number of his lost friend, Alec Trevelyan (006).

Question: How did Alec survive being shot at the start only to return later in the film. It's something that I can't figure out, as James saw him get shot.

Ssiscool

Chosen answer: The real answer, which I believe was explained better in the game or in special features. Regardless, I did hear, is that Ourumov wasn't aiming directly at Alec's head, but to the side and shot the ground behind him. But made it look like he shot him in the head. Alec would have felt the bullet whiz by him.

Quantom X

That makes more sense.

Ssiscool

It has been a while since I watched the movie, and my copy is a VHS... but I believe if you watch very closely you can actually see the bullet hit the ground behind him with a tile breaking. I don't remember for sure if you can, but I seem to remember they did add that little effect.

Answer: But what about the Russian soldier who was nervous and fired at the gas tanks, only to be shot by Ourumov? Did he fake his death too?

That's a valid point. Ourumov never reloaded.

Ssiscool

Answer: He was shot with a blank cartridge. What that means is that the casing in the gun chamber didn't contain a live bullet; instead of killing him, the gun simply gave off a realistic flash that tricked Bond into thinking Alec had been shot. As explained later in the film, Alec's death was staged between himself and Ourumov.

Cubs Fan

Wouldn't James know it was a blank round? Lack of blood for example?

Ssiscool

Ourumov shot Alec and the Russian soldier with the same gun but, only the soldier was actually killed.

But that doesn't work, because even blanks can be deadly at close range.
