Continuity mistake: In the final scene, Mimi is carried into Roger's kitchen and placed on a very thin orange blanket, which we see Joanne placing down for her. There is obviously only this very thin cloth between Mimi and the countertop, but later in the scene, in closeup shots, there is obviously some padding, about an inch thick, underneath the blanket, more than likely to make actress Rosario Dawson more comfortable lying on the stainless steel countertop. Other mistake: At the very beginning, when the lights rise above the cast you can see they're all equally spaced out and the light has the same brightness for each character. At the end of the song, the camera shoots to the back filming everyone from behind, note Mark, he's crammed in the corner next to Angel with out the same amount of space originally he started with and his light is very dim compared to the seven others. Continuity mistake: When Mark takes the money from Angel, the stack he grabs is all messy and some bills are stick out, yet when he points the money to Angel and says "You earned this on the street?" the stack is in clean cut and neat. (00:27:25)
Continuity mistake: While Angel is singing "Today 4 U" Roger's hands constantly change where they are tapping and what leg they are holding on to between rapidly changing camera cuts.
Continuity mistake: When Angel is in the hospital and Mimi and Collins are there supporting him, Collins lays the towel down twice onto Angel's forehead.
Continuity mistake: During "I Should Tell You" Roger and Mimi are walking out in the snow. As they walk away from The Life Cafe you can see their footprints in the snow. When they turn to walk back toward the cafe all of their footprints are gone - they are now walking on a fresh blanket of snow.
Continuity mistake: When everyone goes into the diner the entrance/exit is on the left side, but then Roger and Mimi leave on a different side of the building and then come back in on the same side they left originally.
Continuity mistake: When Mark and Roger sing the lines, "You're wasting your time, we're broke. And you broke your word, this is absurd." None of the burning papers from the song "Rent" can be seen on the sidewalk. But before and after this portion of the song, they are visible.
Continuity mistake: After Collins gets the keys in the street he is asked for a light. Another guy comes up and grabs his bag. Collins pushes him and runs. The bag is on the ground and one of the people attacking him picks it up. In the next shot Collins is running with his bag back in his arm. (00:06:30)
