Entry When Fiona beats up several people at the very beginning of the film, the moves she does are carbon copies of Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick and Ken's Dragon Punch from the video game series "Street Fighter 2." Submitted by Moose

Entry At the very beginning of the Honeymoon montage, we see Shrek looking directly into the camera and moving it around to get a good shot of him and Fiona in front of the house. The is exactly the same as the opening credits for the late 1980s TV program "The Wonder Years" (1987).

Entry When Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey first arrive in Far Far away, you see Donkey's head against the palm trees. This and the music is a parody of police detective Axel Foley's arrival in California in "Beverly Hills Cop" (1984), a film which Eddie Murphy stars in.

Entry The Fairy Godmother is usually referred to just as "Fairy Godmother" in the film. However, press releases describing the film give her the name "Dama Fortuna." Submitted by Moose

Entry When Fiona, Shrek and Donkey have just arrived in Far Far Away, and Shrek says "We are definitely not in the swamp any more," pause it and there is a blurry sign that says "Burger Prince" (a spoof of fast food chain Burger King).

Entry In addition to the one already mentioned there are quite a few other hints at the King's previous existence as a frog: The furniture in his room is coloured green, the queen remarks that their first kiss was at the lily pond and this is where the Fairy Godmother threatens to send him back to, he calls the Queen 'Lilly' as in lily pad and his main reason for hating Shrek is that Shrek lives in a swamp (where he most likely had to live himself at one point).

Entry In the dinner scene with Shrek, Fiona, and her parents, they are eating soup with a letter placed on top of the soup. This could possibly be a slight reference to the soup in "The Princess Diaries" with a "G" on it for Genovia in the dinner scene. "The Princess Diaries" is another Julie Andrews film.

Entry A classic homage to the film "Ghostbusters" (1984) when the giant gingerbread man (parodying the Marshmallow Man) break into the city.

Entry In "The Poison Apple," two of the trees from "Babes in the Wood" are arm wrestling. One of them gets its "arm" broken off. This is a reference to The Fly" (1986). Just as Seth Brundle is changing into the fly he is challenging someone to arm wrestling in a bar and ends up snapping his opponent's wrist.

Entry There is a scene where Shrek is hanging upside down with mud over his face and Fiona pulls it off just to reveal his mouth and she kisses him. This is identical to the scene in "Spider-Man" (2002) where Mary Jane pulls Peter's mask off to kiss him after nearly being mugged.

Entry In the scene where Shrek and Fiona have dinner with Fiona's parents, there's a part where the camera jumps from face to face as they blurt out each other's names. This is copied from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Entry In the Poison Apple Pub, Puss in Boots says "I hate Mondays." It's a reference to Garfield (a lazy fat orange cat who appears in a comic strip series of the same name), who often says that. Submitted by Dr Wilson

Entry The film's numerous billboards of the Fairy Godmother in suggestive poses are a parody of the ubiquitous Hollywood persona Angelyne, a self-described "billboard self-promoter" who recently ran for Governor of California in 2003.

Entry In the scene where Donkey and Shrek test out the potion they stole from the fairy godmother, they drop a bit on a mushroom below them. Later as they leave, the mushroom blooms into a rose. This rose is the enchanted one from Beauty and the Beast.

Entry When the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and the King stop at a fast food restaurant called "Fat Boy", it's a parody of the "Big Boy" rocket in Austin Powers that Dr Evil (played by Mike Myers, who also plays Shrek) freezes himself in. Submitted by Dr Wilson

Entry This applies to both movies. Donkey is genderless. The genitals of both a donkey and a stallion are very obvious, but Donkey does not have them at any point. This was necessary to keep the movies with a PG rating.
