Then he walks off with both hands empty, but when the camera angle changes he is seen waving back with a piece of paper which, sizewise, looks very much like the one he had given to Dave. (00:17:45)

When the camera angle changes it's in his hand. (The black and white sleeve has a strange resemblance with Lou's from the fury fighters' meeting scene, and it looks a bit as if he opened the door but realized that he had no business being on the set.) The go into the multi-purpose hall of the community center which has a stage on one side.
