Continuity mistake: In the climactic race scene near the end, every time the camera cuts back to a long shot of the race, the lap number on the board goes up and down, rather than going up sequentially.

After losing to the Italians, Dave reveals to Kathy that he is a Cutter. She slaps him and storms off. The day of the big race comes. Dave rides the Cutter team almost single-handedly to victory. Dave's father relents and cheers him on to victory from the sidelines. Even the college team are, in the end, forced to clap for the triumphant Dave.
