Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Continuity mistake: When Green Leader's starship crashes into the Star Destroyer, Admiral Piett begins to run away. As the shot ends, he is about one meter away from the window. In the next shot, he is several meters away from it. He couldn't have moved that quickly between shots. (01:54:20)

Continuity mistake: When Anakin Skywalker (Vader) dies, the path of a tear is visible under one of Luke's eyes. Two shots later, the tear path is dry. (01:55:45)

Continuity mistake: When Luke removes Vader's mask, Anakin's eyebrows have been removed in the 2004 DVD. However, a part of his left eyebrow can still be seen in some shots, and it even changes size a few times. (01:55:50)

Suggested correction: It's not part of his eyebrow. It's a shadow.

Continuity mistake: During the speeder chase scene, Leia jumps from her speeder and it blows up, the stormtrooper then hits a tree. The camera shows the tree as a hollow shaft, but when the stormtrooper smashes into it, suddenly it is solid. (01:58:15)

Continuity mistake: Widescreen version: After Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother, she kisses him, and then removes her hand from his neck twice. (01:59:20)

Continuity mistake: When Han and Leia kiss after the Death Star explodes, after Wicket shows up, Han's hand is on the back of Leia's head. In the next shot, his hand is on her arm, and Leia's thumb is touching his jaw, which it didn't do in the previous shot. (01:59:30)

Continuity mistake: On the forest moon of Endor when Princess Leia first meets the Ewok, she takes her helmet off and is holding it in her hand (which frightens the Ewok) in the very next shot she is removing it again to show it to him.

Continuity mistake: When Vader is driven to his knees during the duel, his elbow is over the handrail, but when Luke cuts off his hand, Vader's wrist is lying over the handrail instead.

Continuity mistake: When Lando is hanging over the pit, he has gloves on, then he has no gloves, then they're back and so on.

Continuity mistake: When Wicket wakes up Leia in the woods, the hooded garment he is wearing changes length between shots.

Continuity mistake: Before Chewbacca and two Ewoks swing on a vine to the roof of one of the AT-ST walkers, in a shot of them running, Chewie's bandolier is on the wrong side.

Continuity mistake: In the sequence of the Emperor torturing Luke, there are several close-ups of Vader. Look at his helmet - it goes back and forth between being clean and being dusty.

Continuity mistake: The birthmark on Leia's back keeps changing sides during the 'Jabba' scenes. This seems to happen when Jabba's tail changes sides. I guess the model of him only went one way, so they flipped the negative.

Continuity mistake: On Endor, when the stormtroopers come to take Luke away, the door of the lift is heard opening, the stormtroopers are heard walking, and then they appear behind Luke three seconds after the door opened. But in the next shot, we can see that Luke and Vader are too far away from the lift for the stormtroopers to reach them that quickly.

Continuity mistake: When Leia knocks out a scout trooper with a branch after being discovered on Endor, she is turning to the right. In the next shot, she has turned the other way.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Leia frees Han from the carbonite, there's a table on the right side of the room. The position and existence of the fruit and other objects lying on and around the table keep changing between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Jabba pulls Leia's chain in the sail barge, Bib Fortuna is standing on the right side of the screen, a few meters away. He then takes one step forward, but in the next shot he is suddenly standing behind Leia, as he's pushing her against Jabba. He was too far away from them in the previous shot to have reached them that quickly.

Continuity mistake: When they get ambushed in the shield generator complex, an imperial in black appears from the right of the screen in front of the ledge with the railing. Han throws the container in his hands at the imperial. If you notice, the imperial actually begins to jump over the railing before the box even hits him.

Continuity mistake: When Luke and Han are being executed on Tatooine, Han says his eyes are getting better but still bad. Then he looks directly at Luke and says "You're gonna die here." In the very next line of dialog, Han's head is turned a different way. It looks like it was a different shot.

Revealing mistake: When Luke is fighting on a skiff, he kicks one of Jabba's men in the head, causing him to fall off. Luke's foot doesn't make any contact with the person. (00:33:48)

More quotes from Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Trivia: When filming ROTJ, Lucas didn't want anyone to find out that they were shooting the third Star Wars movie, because pandemonium could break out. So when someone asked the crew what they were filming, they said "Blue Harvest". All of the crew had shirts and hats that said Blue Harvest on them. The fictitious film's tagline was "Horror beyond imagination."

Question: After Anakin becomes Darth Vader, he seems ruthless, actually evil. "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!" Is just one quote. That being the case, this movie makes it seem like Anakin knows that he's evil and wishes he wasn't. Basically, my question is, why didn't Anakin turn on Palpatine sooner? Or simply leave the Sith?

Answer: Darth: "Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the dark side. I must obey my master." It's implied that the dark side is intoxicating, once you totally give in to the dark side it has a hold on you, and appeals to morality and rationalization are useless against your lust for its power. (On a symbolic level, the dark side is a metaphor for vice. Darth Vader is an addict and abusive parent. It's actually funny how many scenes still make sense if you replace "the dark side" with "the bottle" or similar).

If we bring the prequels into it, it's one of the criticisms of those films that they only make the question of how much Anakin is a "true believer" more confusing. But it stands to reason that at first Anakin may feel vindicated in his resentment toward the Jedi. Later on, Vader may not feel that as strongly, but by then his anger has turned toward himself for failing to save Padme. He may feel that a man as terrible as he does not deserve to be "rescued" from the dark side, leading to a feedback loop where he only gets further enamored with its power and does more evil things which causes him to hate himself even more, and so it goes.

TonyPH

Answer: Anakin was seduced by the emperor to think that the Jedi were evil. This was partly fueled by anger &fear, thinking Padme would die if Palpatine didn't help save her. After he turned to Darth Vader & joined the dark side, he eventually realised the true nature of the Emperor, but he was to weak to do anything about it. Darth Vader still wanted to rule the galaxy, but didn't want the emperor controlling everything. He just wanted to use Luke to help overthrow the emperor and take over the galaxy. It wasn't until he found out he had a daughter also, and saw Luke about to die by the hands of the emperor, that he realised that Luke was right & he needed to switch sides.

Vader was not just using Luke to kill the Emperor. He actually did want to rule the galaxy as father and son - if Luke would turn to the Dark Side, that is.
