The King of Fighters '95 mistake picture

Character mistake: In the cutscene before the fight against Saisyu, Rugal addresses King from the Women's team as such "Your mine, Kingy. Kiss, kiss." Besides the total cringe of an obviously made-up 'translation', this Rugal really has some problems with basic grammar.

Hide and Seek - S2-E9

Character mistake: Seven of Nine asks Tallinn to lay down suppressing fire, so they "split up." She explains "We have twice as many chances to get to the ship if we divide and conquer." 'Divide and conquer' (Divide et impera, for the Romans) means to keep the opposition weak by favouring the conflict between their different factions. It is not used to describe splitting up your own forces to have better chances to make it out of a trap alive.

Hamon shissô ôbâdoraibu - S1-E4

Character mistake: When Zeppeli drills a hole in the wine bottle, the wine is called "Mezzennotti Topo", which is grammatically incorrect Italian (it would mean a nonsensical "Midnights Mouse", but it's spelled wrong anyway). (00:15:55)

Strange New Worlds - S1-E1

Character mistake: The Enterprise is targeted by projectiles from the planet. Spock identifies them as "plasma torpedoes", and Captain Pike reacts with surprise; "Plasma torpedoes? That's 21st century tech" and from that they all establish that the civilization they contacted is not yet capable of warp drive. Plasma torpedoes are the main weaponry of the Romulans centuries later, and Earth itself did acquire warp drive in the 21st century, so this claim and deduction don't seem to add up. (00:22:15)

ENF Novels: Dress Code

Character mistake: Poirot talks with the Boyntons about the solution of the enigma after the dances, sitting at the table with them. By them, the British flag is hanging upside down from the wall - they are at the coronation ball, so not exactly a place where protocol does not matter. (01:29:05)

Crush Crush

Character mistake: One of Bonnibel's lines is "I'm not one for labels, sugar, but I'm a bit old fashioned. Am I your beau, sweet heart?" Old fashioned or not, she gets her labels wrong; she'd be a "belle" (girlfriend), not a "beau" (boyfriend).

Crush Crush

Character mistake: Francine's phone fling storyline says that she's a spy that asks the Player's help to send encrypted files disguised as photos, and they have to pretend to be lovers trading pleasantries and pictures next time she calls him. She says that she's going to turn off the jammer (which allows her momentarily to talk without being intercepted) "now" and says goodbye. When hours later she calls, she begins the conversation (and the act) with "Ready? Here we go." So she gives herself away.

The Nice Guys (2016)

Character mistake: Twice over in the movie (when Healy wakes up and when March at the end of the movie drives to his place) billboards for The Comedy Store appear. The program of the evening features comedians such as Tim Allen, Richard Lewis, Robert Klein and "Elaine Boosler." So they misspelled Elayne Boosler's name. (00:10:50 - 01:48:35)

Ghostbusters (1984)

Character mistake: Meeting Dana at the Lincoln Center fountain, Venkman tells her that Gozer was a deity worshipped in 6,000 BC by Hittites, Mesopotamians and Sumerians. There are no historical accounts of those specific populations dating back to that ancient of a date, or writing of any form for that matter. (00:43:40)

Suggested correction: Venkman said Mesopotamians, not Babylonians. The Mesopotamian civilization existed in 6500 BC so his information would be accurate in that aspect.

You are absolutely right, I have misquoted the movie there and I just fixed it thanks to your correction. "Mesopotamians" is just a generic denomination, though, so saying that Gozer would be worshipped by the Hittites in 6000 BC, and then list a generic name for the inhabitants of the area and then the Sumerians (generally accepted as the first organized civilization of the area, still much after the proposed date) doesn't seem to be quite accurate.

A valid point of view from both of you, however, it's established that Dr. Venkman is the least knowledgeable in paranormal history so it's possible he listed the groups out of order. As is rightly pointed out, Mesopotamia was a generic listing, like saying Americans, so maybe if he said Mesopotamians first, then the other groups, the quote would make sense?

I completely agree that he's the least knowledgeable of the bunch by far and it is well-established and reinforced in the same scene since he needs Dana's help to read "Hittites." Read, because he's not quoting from memory; he's reading (presumably something Egon or Ray had to write down for him). As you say, "if" he said Mesopotamians first, maybe it would have made sense (but it's not what he says), and even then, using your example, saying "in 1000 BC, Manitou was worshipped by the Sioux, the Americans and the Apache" just sounds wrong. (I know that by 'Americans' we mean generally the US population and feel free to add 'native' to it, then again Hittites established their civilization when the Sumerians were wiped out already, and that's 4 millennia past the date - it is what happens making a word salad in a small sentence that has to register just superficially for the audience).
