Factual error: The Channel 5 WNP Newscaster said, "it is now believed he [District Attorney Berdido] and his family were killed..." and running along the bottom of the screen was "4 confirmed dead in Fort Lauderdale gas explosion." This was a LIVE report showing two streams of water onto the house still burning inside. An investigation would barely, if at all, be started at this time and no-one would be "confirmed dead" this early. It would not even be known if anyone was home when the house exploded. Continuity mistake: When Paul comes to the table three chairs are free, when his father comes there is only one chair free - the third chair is suddenly missing. (00:49:30)
Factual error: Dr. Boxer is told the experimented upon baboon died. He asks that an autopsy be performed. Autopsies are performed on humans. A post-mortem examination on animals is called a necropsy. (01:01:45)
Continuity mistake: Leonardo DiCaprio's phone is shown attached to his car dashboard. He gets out of his car, all the while, looking up toward the sky. The next scene shows him grabbing his phone from his pocket while standing outside his car. (01:36:06 - 01:36:56)
Revealing mistake: When the injured gardener Peter is in the backseat of the car, his mustache is loose and falling off. The right side runs diagonally past the corner of his mouth with the top too close to his nose and the bottom raised with hairs sticking out. The left side runs horizontally across his lip. Other mistake: Narrating, Ringo said "Let me be clear. I never steal from people who don't deserve it." He was in a bank's safety deposit room, which was full of hundreds (if not thousands) of safety deposit boxes. Ringo was selecting specific boxes from among those along the wall, but he couldn't know whose boxes they were. (00:02:44)
Revealing mistake: After Charlie talks to Emma in Francine's old bedroom and is standing in the doorway, the background (segment of the hallway) is obviously fake. Shown are less than five of the top steps on the staircase, only a fraction of the size of real steps. The lower section of the banister is also a reduced size. (01:31:35)
Continuity mistake: After the police officer starts dragging his wounded partner toward their SUV, the camera shifts to Jake and Henrietta talking along the side of the house. When the camera returns to the police officers, the officer dragging the other officer has not made any progress and even appears to be further back from where he started. (01:21:45)
Other mistake: William Tillich (AKA Bill Tell) had one suitcase which could not possibly hold enough sheets (or thin blankets) to cover/wrap all the furniture in his motel room like he did. (His suitcase was not very large and also contained his clothes.) He covered an even larger area of furniture in Gordo's house. It isn't clear if he used his own sheets or just happened to find the same kind in Gordo's house.
Continuity mistake: The bull horns and skull attached to the front of Doug's SUV were much larger on his way to the site than when he pulled up to the meeting spot. Initially, the horns spanned past the low beams, but were some distance from the low beams on each side when he arrived. The overall size of the skull was noticeably smaller and looked less menacing. Character mistake: When Tony is talking to the Biancis and others, he refers to victim Kevin Turner as "Kevin Grant" at least two times. (00:44:50 - 00:46:27)
Factual error: The initial police scene takes pace 20 years ago. The present year is 2021, so 20 years prior would've made it 2001. The police Chevrolet Tahoe at the opening scene of the film was only made from 2007 and up. (00:05:40)
Other mistake: The chances that no-one in the approaching truck - three men, including a man standing in the bed facing oncoming traffic - would notice that Danny had a front seat passenger are very low, if not zero. Even after Motley got into the second row seat of the truck, but did not get down right away, the men in the truck had turned around and were following Danny but still did not notice Motley. Continuity mistake: The height of the stack of magazines on the coffee table in front of John changes with the camera's view. Front views of John show a high stack of maybe 15 magazines. Side views of John show a much shorter stack of several magazines. (00:25:03 - 00:26:07)
Factual error: At the end of the film, Hellfire Jack returns the toy soldier to the son of the late William Hawkins in 1917. Hawkins son is shown taking it upstairs and placing it in front of a photo of his father, in between two medals. These are the British War and Victory Medals - these did not exist until 1919, and in most cases were not even issued until the 1920's.
Factual error: Teenagers Claire and Fiona would have been carded and not permitted to enter the "Saints and Sinners" bar because they were under age 21, but they were able to sit at a table and get served alcohol. (00:51:37)
Other mistake: After seeing Joe Montana play in Super Bowl XIX, young Kurt said, "I knew I wanted to be that guy." When he goes outside to pass the football, young Kurt has "Warner 13" on the back of his jersey - not Montana's #16 but the #13 that he could not know in advance that he would eventually wear during most of his adult career. Suggested correction: This is trivia at best, certainly not a mistake. While it's true he wore #12 in high school, there's no reason he couldn't have liked #13 as a child. And, many key position players do get to pick their number, from the available range, which Kurt certainly did.
Continuity mistake: The door had multiple small rectangular glass panes enclosed in wood frames, but the glass pane that Alan Schaefer's head/body went through was larger and no wood frames were visible. (00:40:28)
Continuity mistake: Numerous times throughout the movie (within and between scenes), the length of Amber's bangs varies - from above, to touching, and into her eyebrows. The length even changed, at times, from the beginning to end of a short telephone call.
Factual error: The movie largely takes place in California during the 1990s. California's mandatory seat belt law went into effect 1/01/86. When Mickey was driving Kyd to the cemetery, they were not wearing seat belts. Also, Kyd was 8 years old at the time. Although legally permitted to ride in the front, it is advised that kids sit in the back seat for safety. Considering Lyla was recently killed when a driver ran a stop sign, Mickey should have been more concerned for Kyd's safety as a passenger. (01:12:58 - 01:15:05)
