House, M.D.

Wilson - S6-E9

Question: Why can't House be a doctor again after faking his death? I always assumed you can't be a doctor with a criminal record. And maybe you can't in real life, I'm not entirely sure. But in the House universe, it seems like you can, because House and Thirteen were still doctors after going to prison. So after Wilson dies, why can't House just go back to jail and then be a doctor again?

MikeH

Answer: He faked his death to avoid going back to prison. He chose to abandon medicine and his previous life for that reason. Considering House's past work history, conviction, and mental issues, it's doubtful a hospital would hire him.

Question: Could the woman going to her ex's while in a sleepwalking state and having sex with him have him arrested?

Rob245

Answer: She could if her ex knew she had this condition and she was at that time in an incapacitated or altered mental state where she could not knowingly give consent to any sexual activity. She would, however, have to prove that she was sleepwalking at the time.

The Jerk - S3-E23

Question: Why did Nate beat his chess opponent after winning? I know it's revealed that he's simply a jerk, but that's not the behaviour of a jerk, it's the behaviour of a psycho, and it seems like it wasn't addressed.

MikeH

Answer: The hemachromatosis the patient suffered from can cause rage attacks due to hormone imbalances.

LorgSkyegon

Answer: As long as the leg remains physically viable, even if it's impaired and not causing chronic pain, a reputable doctor would not amputate simply because a patient wants it removed.

raywest

Answer: This could be due to any number of reasons. Hospitals might not perform the operation so long after the accident especially since he is known to be working and living with the condition.

Ssiscool

Answer: A teaching hospital is a type of hospital, but it would be somewhat similar to a general hospital since they're not specialized in one area. Besides the ER, surgery, and ICU, the hospital contains various other departments, including a psychiatry department.

Bishop73

Answer: It would be considered a non-profit hospital run as a charity. It's also affiliated with a medical school and is a teaching hospital, although which college it is affiliated was never mentioned.

Bishop73

I meant does he work in mental hospital, or a general hospital.

Trivia: Hugh Laurie auditioned for the role as Dr. Gregory House in his hotel room bathroom in Namibia. He was rehearsing his role for the film The Flight of the Phoenix and claimed that the bathroom was the only place with enough light. He also apologized for his appearance on tape before the audition as he'd just come back from filming. The fact that House has a somewhat scruffy and unkempt look, particularly his constant five o'clock shadow, has been attributed by creator David Shore to Laurie's appearance in this audition tape.
