Corrected entry: The aliens are attacking Earth because it's the only planet with water in a liquid state. In other words, the aliens are capable of interstellar travel but aren't smart enough to melt a block of ice from somewhere else.

Question: Why did Liebgott tell Webster that Malarkey was getting a battlefield commission?
Answer: To mess with him. A lot of the "regular" soldiers didn't respect or even like Webster early on because he was a college boy. That dislike and lack of respect was deepened when Webster took what they perceived to be an extended stay in hospital after being wounded when many of their other comrades - Popeye for example - left hospital early to get back with their friends to fight.
He couldn't leave hospital early because he was in England. The wound in Band of Brothers was perceived a lot less serious than it was, and a lot of easy men were happy to have him back, especially Luz.
If you read the literature around Band of Brothers, you'll find that Kenyon Webster was perceived as a slacker in the sense that, while not precisely a coward, would never volunteer to put himself in harm's way. He only did as told and nothing more. So, regardless of the reasons why he really couldn't go back to Easy, his friends were predisposed to feel he was slacking off at the hospital while they were risking their lives.

Corrected entry: Not one vehicle is secured on the ship when it is leaving the island, a long shot shows this, no chains or anything. Even when they arrive they just turn the key and drive out of the cargo area. Without it being secured, no way it would still be in place on arrival. (00:55:55)
Correction: Not sure where you get that logic from? I've been on plenty of ferries and not once has my car been tied down and it didn't move an inch.
Ferries normally operate for short crossings in relatively protected waters and have different design and load characteristics. This ship is leaving for a 2,800 NM (5,186 km) voyage in the open sea. Not securing these heavy trailers will likely mean they may topple or be shifted around, and that can even put the ship at risk of capsizing. I have sailed on similar ships, and trust me, all cargo must be lashed, and the crew verifies the lashing prior to leaving port.

Plot hole: Being transported from the west of Costa Rica all the way to Northern California by ship would take about a week. Are we to assume that Owen, Claire and Franklin were staying put in the back of the truck the whole time undetected? They would have to eat and use the restroom, at least.
Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.
Suggested correction: Maybe they did have to sneak around but the director thought making us watch Owen sneaking away at night to take a whiz wasn't really important to the plot.
It was established in the plot's timeline that the ship travelled overnight. A ship like this travels at about 12 knots and would take for them about 9 days to complete that voyage.

Correction: They use the water as fuel. Melting the ice would require fuel. See the dilemma? Besides, perhaps they ARE mining ice elsewhere. But they learn of Earth, and it's ready supply of liquid water, and decide the opportunity is too good to pass up.
