Continuity mistake: Early in the film when Jake gets in his car to head off to pick up his son, his seatbelt is on although there is no sight of him putting it on, then, as he pulls away the seatbelt is off.
Factual error: The movie is set in the 80s (you can see tell for instance by the driving license of the old woman, which uses the 80s template and has a 1985 date), but the police plays the suicide tape on a Panasonic PV-4614, which is a late 90s model of VHR. Same goes for the Sony video camera used to tape the murder, definitely from the 90s. (00:19:00)
Continuity mistake: The protagonist receives her gift from Molly Shannon. She unwraps it and puts the discarded wrapping on the counter. When we see it again at the end of the scene, the wrapping is much less torn apart than the first time around (or at least has been arranged neatly). (00:09:45)
Other mistake: When Lomito was holding the little green ball with the smiley face on it, her flashlight was shining on her fingers/fingernails - all of which were long and manicured. The length of her fake fingernails - even if they did not exceed the department's policy on maximum length, such as one-fourth inch past the fingertip - probably were long enough to interfere with her ability to quickly put her finger on her pistol's trigger and shoot; the length interfered with her ability to perform her duties. Factual error: The pilot is flying from the left-hand seat. Helos are flown from the right side. (01:23:00 - 01:25:00)
Revealing mistake: The candles on the long dinner table are numerous and clustered, but linear in front views of people seated at the table. Based on how the candles are disorderly arranged, it would not be possible to show a couple or few candles spaced apart in front of one person. (00:05:35)
Factual error: Rich told Jamie, "There was a car accident. Guy came in. I cut when I should've stitched or stitched when I should've cut. I don't even know. His family sued in civil court, and I lost everything." A doctor working at a hospital would have been required to carry malpractice insurance, which would have protected him from "losing everything." Also, it would be difficult to prove that a car accident victim who died during surgery was a victim of malpractice; most cases are settled out of court. (00:38:30)
Continuity mistake: After the scavenger hunt goes live, Jennifer follows it with her grandmother Sue and Aidan does so with his niece Emma. Aidan looks at the photos of participants and sees one of Jennifer and Sue at the art class, and right below is one of him holding Emma with the carollers in the background. Immediately after that, he picks up Emma in front of the carollers and takes the photo he had already been looking at.
Audio problem: When Bart is looking through a magazine and starts to rip a page out, the whole page is lifted and obviously already loose; Bart sets it down to look like he is tearing it out, and sound effects are added to make it appear he really is ripping out the page, but the sounds don't really match his motions. Continuity mistake: The direction of the desk lamp's flexible neck varies with the camera's angle. Front views of Rodger show the top of the neck aimed toward the outer edge (length) of the desk and rear views of Rodger show the top of the desk lamp's neck pointed toward him sitting at the desk. Continuity mistake: Jane Curtin is teaching to a rather seasoned class. One of those old hags says sarcastically "Because we really never do anything." As she says it, notice Eleanor turning towards her momentarily. She then turns completely, facing the opposite way, but at the cut she is repeating the turn from the beginning. Moreover, Moira's mouth closes after she says "Enough!" but the following shot on Curtin shows her still jaw-dropped. (00:04:05)
Continuity mistake: Views of Michelle's car wreck were inconsistent. When the car veered to the right and was headed toward the tree, the driver's view showed most of the car was to the left of the tree trunk. On impact, it looked like the right side headlight hit the middle of the tree trunk. Michelle got out and a rear view showed the tree trunk roughly lined up with the steering wheel (i.e, more than half of the car was to the right of the trunk). After impact, both headlights were shining in front of the tree.
Continuity mistake: There are only two missing pieces to complete the jigsaw puzzle, and the perimeter/frame is intact. After the pastor turns the puzzle around to face Eden, there are four pieces missing, three of which are perimeter pieces. (00:04:38)
Character mistake: NYPD officers have their guns drawn toward the elevator in the Carrington Hotel. When the door opens, Borz, wearing an unbuttoned Carrington jacket - but not the hat or white gloves that the doormen wear - is told by an officer to "hold it" and states that he's "just a doorman." The officer backs up and allows Borz to leave. A police officer would not simply accept the word of anyone in this situation. The person would be handcuffed and detained until the situation is under control and the police determine he was not (or was) involved. (01:24:41 - 01:35:02)
Other mistake: When Hamby was pushing Joey into the hole, he shoved him with his left hand near the middle of Joey's upper chest. Joey was falling backwards, as would be expected, but his feet "somehow" landed on the outer edge of the hole that was about 2' behind him and he "somehow" started falling upright, landing on his feet at the bottom of the hole. The way he was pushed and his proximity to the hole should have resulted in Joey's upper body landing on the opposite of the hole - and not falling in.
Continuity mistake: When they lock Tommy in the port-a-potty, they put a sign on the door. The sign is crooked when he keys go off it. In the next cut, the sign is straight. (00:12:30)
Continuity mistake: The grilled cheese sandwich was charred while it was still cooking, but not when Jason's dad served it to him. (00:02:00)
Deliberate mistake: Zhang crushed and smeared several long red-hot peppers (cayenne?) in his hands to use as a makeshift weapon against thugs when rescuing Mei Mei. After Zhang smeared and pushed peppers into one thug's eyes, it is unlikely he would have been able to retain as much of the crushed peppers in his palms as he did. Also, holding the peppers in one or both of his palms would have interfered with grasping the second thug and redirecting his gun (without sliding off). (00:08:00 - 00:08:50)
Continuity mistake: The protagonist just arrived to his college. Long shot as he gets off the taxi, and to the right of the frame you see a group of 3 girls crossing the street and walking on the lawn. Cut, and the 3 girls have yet to cross. (00:07:00)
Continuity mistake: When Johanna and the Captain are being chased by Mr Almay and his associates, their position in the wagon changes. First Johanna is on the Captain's left. Next shot she is on his right. Next shot she is back on his left. (00:42:14)
