Continuity mistake: The bite marks on Doc's sandwich were inconsistent/contradictory. Doc took a corner bite out of his sandwich, then the sandwich was shown with an additional side bite mark (made off-screen?). When the sandwich was shown again, the distinctive bite marks were gone and the side of the sandwich that had been eaten was straight across. Doc was holding the sandwich in his right hand; after another camera shift, Doc was holding the sandwich in his left hand and the unique side bite mark was back. (00:18:22 - 00:18:48)
Continuity mistake: The street view/scenery when Emily is walking down the road outside of her new apartment becomes quite different when the camera shifts to an aerial view (showing more cars and buildings, fewer trees along the right side of the road, and mountains in the distance instead of the nearby ocean). Continuity mistake: Kol shouts, "Stop the car!" Adam slams on the brakes from a cruising speed, yet miraculously, the car is bumper-to-bumper with a parked red SUV. When Kol gets back into Adam's car, the red SUV should be visible. However, outside of the windshield, there is a white blur. A car drives close by on a perpendicular road that wasn't there before Adam stopped. (00:15:48 - 00:16:20)
Other mistake: Si was kneeling on the floor, stabbing his upper left arm and blood was gushing out. After he moved his right arm with the bloody knife to his right side, the aerial view did not show any blood on the floor, across his thighs/pants, or even dripping down his left arm. (00:27:50)
Continuity mistake: Smoke was no longer coming out of the wrecked car when The Thief had his back to it while he was shooting at a thug's feet, but it resumed when The Thief turned around to face the car. (00:05:20 - 00:05:43)
Character mistake: Nolan said, "Everybody knows that no sharks swim in freshwater" and Spencer said, "They don't come into freshwater", but there are freshwater sharks (e.g, river sharks) and bull sharks (not true freshwater sharks) can survive in saltwater or freshwater. Jacob Harper (National Aquarium) pointed out eyewitness accounts of sharks swimming up the Mississippi River and "bull sharks have kidneys that recycle salt" but did not mention the glands near their tails that help keep salt in their bodies. Continuity mistake: The mailbox is roughly parallel to Richard's SUV but is more perpendicular when he looks at the address number, then it is back to parallel. (00:06:40)
Continuity mistake: The top of Brecken's head was close to (within a few inches of) the headboard before his mother brought the pillow. When his mother put the pillow over his face and the camera shifted to a right-side rear view, the upper part of the bed was raised about 45°. When Lang Dotrice (Brecken's father) arrived and sat on his bed, the pillow used to smother Brecken was at least a foot away from the headboard and Brecken's head (still under the pillow) was about a yard away from the headboard. Continuity mistake: The camera active times are not quite synchronized. All three do show "10-24 THU", but "CAM 4" shows "03:37:22:?" AFTER "CAM 36" was at "03:38:06:21." Two+ minutes later, "CAM 9" has a slightly earlier time than was shown about 10 seconds earlier on "CAM 9." (01:01:37)
Revealing mistake: There's something odd about the chair that is (or is not?) to the right of Monsignor Kelly when Stu goes into his office to talk. Only part of the back of the chair can be seen and it is not directly in front of the Monsignor, but there is not enough room for the seat part to be there (otherwise, the Monsignor could not be standing where he is). Without any indication that the Monsignor or chair moved, the Monsignor is later able to rest his right hand on the chair's back. (01:13:57 - 01:14:37)
Continuity mistake: Ron (dad) brings Amanda her dinner. He carries a bowl approximately centered on a square plate. He quickly sets the plate on the table, so does not have time to adjust the position of the bowl. Ron walks away and the bowl is to the far side of the plate, and there are crackers filling the remaining space on the other side. (00:01:20 - 00:01:57)
Continuity mistake: Riley puts the red hard-covered book and two others into the box, but puts the same books into the box when Gabby starts to help. (00:13:35)
Continuity mistake: The champagne bottle was behind some candles on the table, but in front of them and in the corner of the table when Danny picked it up. The number and arrangement of the (CGI) candles also varied with close-up versus more distant views. (00:04:42)
Continuity mistake: At the start of the movie when the guys are arguing on the porch the guy on the ground suddenly appears to be off the porch in the next shot on the ground.
Factual error: Rose's legs were paralyzed, but when she was dragging herself on the floor, she occasionally used her feet to help propel her body forward (and moved her feet downward) - something she would not be able to do if her legs were paralyzed. (00:33:40)
Factual error: April arrives for her first day of work at "Shady Oaks Senior Living" and sees Max, the resident who passed away the night before, being wheeled out on a stretcher with his head uncovered. A deceased person's entire body would be covered by the sheet. (00:03:14)
Continuity mistake: During their first encounter (the first we see in the movie, at least), Sheila sits next to Gary, and they both order Old Fashioned. Phil the Bartender makes a comment on that, and she shoos him off. Look at Kaley Cuoco 's bag; one of the straps keeps going on/off the top of the bag between shots. (00:03:30)
Continuity mistake: When Maren and Lee are discussing their first time, Lee smokes a cigarette and removes it from his mouth, while still holding it in between his fingers. When the shot cuts to him saying "A rush", the cigarette is held at a different angle. (00:52:53)
Plot hole: On Christmas morning, Karen went to the grocery store (open on Christmas!) where she donated $5,000 via credit card to the "Homeless Mother Shelter." Hours later, the $5,000 already showed up on Chris' laptop as deposited into the shelter's account. It takes days, not hours, for credit card transactions to be processed - especially if the transaction occurs on a holiday. (01:14:10 - 01:23:20)
