Character mistake: Julie has just passed her driver's test. At the end, she drives up with two teenage friends in the car and offers the stranded Captain Stottlemeyer a ride. Other mistake: When Natalie sits down with Randy eating ice cream, she's says "vanilla fudge, my favorite." But the carton is labeled "chocolate." Plus Randy says he got it out of her freezer, so she would know she bought just regular chocolate ice cream.

Character mistake: When Monk's examining the second dead Julie, notice that Randy touches the body to point out a bruise. Surely real life cops would be wearing gloves so as not to contaminate part of the crime scene.

Continuity mistake: In the very first scene when Natalie is running to Stottlemeyer's car, she throws the walkie talkie through the open side window into the car. But in the next two shots it is back in her hands.

Plot hole: There is no other reason for Randy to hand Natalie the walkie-talkie but to fill that plot hole. He is in fact in breach of police rules when he hands his department issued radio to a civilian to answer it while he is on duty. The same goes for Stottlemeyer and the car keys he hands to Monk. Even more so since he knows Monk could not even drive that car to the side in the far fetched scenario that a police car had to be moved while the cop is serving a warrant inside the building the car is parked in front of. Answer: The two men are trying to work out a secret deal between them without involving the union, which means the workers' interests aren't being represented and defeats the whole purpose of a union. The mayor would lose labor's support and Cusack's union troubles would just be starting.
