Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Tortured - S4-E16

Corrected entry: Alex misbehaves in court when the expert's explaining brain injuries. Surely no D.A or A.D.A would act like a smart alec saying "Thank you doctor, what it lacks in facts it makes up for it in pretty colors." or whatever nonsense she spewed. The judge doesn't even correct her.

Rob245

Correction: Attorneys on both sides make smart ass comments all the time, on the show and in real life. She's basically just mocking the doctor as making things up.

Well one representing the state should be above that behavior. It's like the old expression if someone else jumped off a bridge would you? I think that's how it goes.

Rob245

"Should" isn't a mistake though. People act like that all the time.

Head - S5-E25

Corrected entry: Stabler slams a female suspect into the barred window which leads to her having a potentially life ending seizure. If he's had problems like this before, it's been mentioned, then this should've gotten him suspended or fired.

Rob245

Correction: Plenty of cops have done worse and kept their jobs.

Head - S5-E25

Corrected entry: At the end of the episode the female child molester reveals that she has just learned that she's pregnant with her victim's child. However, earlier in the episode (several weeks prior in the episode's time span), she underwent surgery. A Pregnancy test is part of a standard pre-op workup for all women of child-bearing age. She would have learned about her pregnancy then. Obviously, this was altered for the "end of the episode" dramatic effect.

Correction: Not necessarily, I underwent surgery and as long as I signed a paper saying I was sure I wasn't pregnant, they went ahead with the surgery.

Pretend - S8-E21

Corrected entry: The doctor speaks with Olivia about how the girl is older because she doesn't have wisdom teeth and people get them when they are adults. This is what turns the investigation. Although, that is sometimes true, it is not ALWAYS true. My wisdom teeth were removed when I was 16, and I know of friends who have also had them removed before adulthood. So to base it primarily on that would not have been sound.

Correction: Yes, but since it is sometimes true, that led their investigation in another direction, and they found out she was not who she said she was. Also the doctor said she had them removed some time ago because of the way the scars had healed, so even if they where removed when she was really young, this would still prove she was older than she said she was.

Honor - S2-E2

Continuity mistake: When Stabler steps out to confront Tarzi, there is a long, brown brick wall to Tarzi's right. Tarzi then turns and runs across the street and is followed by Fin. Munch steps out and yells "halt!" There is another shot of Tarzi and he stops again. Right before he is tackled by Fin, behind him, to his right, is the same brick wall as before even though he crossed the street and ran down the block.

Uncle - S8-E4

Elliot Stabler: Just so you know, everybody loses it their first kid case.
Dani Beck: I'll get used to it.
Elliot Stabler: Well... When that happens, transfer out.

Scavenger - S6-E4

Trivia: As the detectives are trying to find out from Doug Hutchinson's character where the victim is being held, the detectives find out he is somewhat claustrophobic. They decide to scare him and put him in a cupboard without any light. This is very similar to Doug Hutchinson's character in The Green Mile. The main characters decide to punish him and force him into a dark and small room.

Show generally

Question: Why does Oliver Gates come up with ridiculous reasons for the people he defends whenever they commit murder? In the episode "Hate", Sean Webster was killing Muslims and Oliver claims that his hatred was genetic but, it was found out that Sean had been raised to hate Muslims after his dad left his mom and married a muslim. In the episode "Game" a guy is murdering people the exact same way that's done in a video game when it's clear the suspect is using the video game as a scapegoat for his crimes.

Answer: His clients are guilty and won't take a plea. He's using desperate defenses in hopes of swaying a juror or two. Also makes for better television. "Temporary insanity" isn't nearly as compelling as "the video games made me do it."
