Continuity mistake: James comes home from meeting his new boss with a $50k check which he wakes his sleeping wife to show. She turns toward him with their faces nearly touching and in the next cut she is on her side with her back to him.
Character mistake: Nolan said, "Everybody knows that no sharks swim in freshwater" and Spencer said, "They don't come into freshwater", but there are freshwater sharks (e.g, river sharks) and bull sharks (not true freshwater sharks) can survive in saltwater or freshwater. Jacob Harper (National Aquarium) pointed out eyewitness accounts of sharks swimming up the Mississippi River and "bull sharks have kidneys that recycle salt" but did not mention the glands near their tails that help keep salt in their bodies. Continuity mistake: Travis rearranged a photo on the desk, setting it partially in front of the box and the two pictures were a few inches apart. The next wide view showed the corner of the picture almost aligned with the box or slightly behind it and the two pictures were now almost touching. The angles and locations of the photos changed more than once. (00:09:40 - 00:10:03)
Other mistake: The close-up of wine being poured into the glass shows that after reaching about two-thirds full, wine continues to be poured into the glass without increasing its level. (00:04:40)
Revealing mistake: The 50 dollar bills that appear in the opening credits all have the same serial number (and you can find online the texture they used with great ease, just like the one for the 20 dollar bills stack). (00:03:45)
Continuity mistake: Before the family went outside, the fire extinguisher was part-way below the window sill. When Peter (father) went inside, the fire extinguisher was away from the window sill (more toward the right of the screen). (00:07:33 - 00:09:12)
Audio problem: The baddie enters the room with the two ladies and fires a shot in the air. He is holding a revolver but the empty casing can be heard hitting the floor as if the pistol was magazine fed. (00:39:00)
Deliberate mistake: The thug wearing headphones and facing the money on the shelves did not notice that Savage forcefully opened the door several feet to his right, slamming it against the adjacent wall, or that Savage had entered the room. The bang to and vibration from the door hitting the wall should have been enough to overpower the sound from his earphones, but - even if they weren't - his peripheral vision should have sensed the door opening and Savage entering. Continuity mistake: During the "Quiet Game," the taser model changes when Rachel licks it and finishes the challenge.
Continuity mistake: When Natasha joined Jimmy at the table in the restaurant, there was a plastic bottle of ketchup to the right of their drinks. When the waitress came to their table, the bottle of ketchup was gone. A napkin holder, previously barely visible, was now between their drinks. Factual error: Pettis' calculation of the amount Connor needed to replace his asset was way off. He stated, "[Cornell] brought me about 250 [$250,000] a year. He had at least 20 more years of service. Subtract five years he might have spent in prison, so you owe me, what? Six point two million." Pettis was presented as intelligent, but a quick mental calculation of even the full 20 years at $250,000 would total only $5 million (not $6.2 - an odd sum). For 15 years, the total would be $3,750,000. (00:28:45)
Continuity mistake: The bite marks on Doc's sandwich were inconsistent/contradictory. Doc took a corner bite out of his sandwich, then the sandwich was shown with an additional side bite mark (made off-screen?). When the sandwich was shown again, the distinctive bite marks were gone and the side of the sandwich that had been eaten was straight across. Doc was holding the sandwich in his right hand; after another camera shift, Doc was holding the sandwich in his left hand and the unique side bite mark was back. (00:18:22 - 00:18:48)
Continuity mistake: Smoke was no longer coming out of the wrecked car when The Thief had his back to it while he was shooting at a thug's feet, but it resumed when The Thief turned around to face the car. (00:05:20 - 00:05:43)
Continuity mistake: The way Banshee's bangs are combed back vary a few times in a couple minutes (elevator fight scene). Sometimes, the left side is higher than the right side and other times the highest point is near the middle of her forehead. The "curve" at which the bangs are combed toward the right side also vary, from little to no curve to wavier toward the right. (00:06:36 - 00:07:57)
Continuity mistake: Ishmael shots Karim in the right side of the stomach, but the wound moves to the left side.
Deliberate mistake: Considering the position of the surveillance camera (height and angle - almost parallel to the side of the building as well as to the sidewalk), plus the lens being indented within the outer frame, it would not have been able to capture a view of Redd on the sidewalk below like it did. Revealing mistake: The views to the right and left of the truck on the road did not flow in the manner expected if they were actually there (as opposed to using a green screen). Also, as soon as a "stop" sign could be seen to the right, the camera shifted to the driver, who kept driving as though the stop sign was not there. The structures to the right of the truck were blue but became white when the camera shifted to a front view (not using a green screen). (00:01:20)
Revealing mistake: Initially, there is a little movement that can be seen in the passenger's side mirror on Juan's car, but it is subsequently reduced to still-frame. Also, the driver's side mirror is tilted upward, showing movement, but not in a typical position to enable viewing of vehicles behind the driver. (00:00:55)
Plot hole: Detective Knight's law enforcement jurisdiction lies within L.A. county (with limited exceptions, such as "hot pursuit"). It is absurd that he would be given permission, transportation, time away from L.A. duties, funds, etc. to go to New York - outside of his geographical jurisdiction - to continue an "investigation" based on a hunch about the robbers' identities.
Factual error: The film gets basic physics wrong while trying to depict relativity. Buzz Lightyear leaves T'Kani Prime for a trip around its sun, travels with near-light speed, and returns four years later. This could only have happened if T'Kani Prime's sun were at least two lightyears away! It gets more ridiculous. Buzz's last trip takes 26 years, even though he has traveled at faster-than-light speed. Overall, T'Kani Prime is experiencing either a mysterious time slow-down or a rapid orbit expansion.
