New today Continuity mistake: West is lying down while in hand shackles. When Voulee turns her back to him, he releases a gadget from under his sleeve by his right wrist. While the camera closes in and out of the device to free him, West's shirt sleeve by his wrist keeps appearing and disappearing.
New today Continuity mistake: The opening of the last scene is of the personal train car in the dark night with very little moonlight. The closing scene of this episode shows the train again amid the night sky which is a much lighter beautiful blue.
00:47:45 - 00:49:1511291929
New this week Continuity mistake: When West and Dr. Pringle back up to the steel door to escape, West is about three feet in front of it. One of the villain's henchmen bursts in, saying, "hold it." The next shot and West is about eight feet away from the door and the henchman.
New this week Continuity mistake: Dr. Pringle and West back up to a steel door to escape from the room and West is behind a table with lab equipment on it. A henchman charges in, gun drawn on West. The next instant shot shows the table has moved several feet to the viewer's left, presumably to make room for the impending fist fight West will have with the bad guys.
New this week Revealing mistake: The red-headed villain falls face first into the wedding cake. The front of his face is covered with cake and icing. West "punches" him on the face - but punches are not real - that is why West has no cake or icing on the fist that "punched" the face covered with cake and icing.
New this month Revealing mistake: When West opens the wall safe in the personal train, there is no locking mechanism shown on the opened door. Without this, the door of the safe could just be opened without rotating the combination lock on the outside.
New this month Continuity mistake: The final scene shows a government official entering the private car to take delivery of the sultan. The open door shows that it is pitch black outside, but the final shot of the private train departing shows a very blue sky.
00:48:05 - 00:49:0511291929
New this month Continuity mistake: The last scene of this episode shows the private train in twilight, but when Col. Falk walks in, the outside is pitch black. The last shot shows the moving train again in twilight, not in the dark of night.
00:46:55 - 00:48:05
New this month Continuity mistake: As West is throwing the sword at the robber who shot Gordon, his right pant leg is very dirty above and below the knee. West immediately walks to and kneels by the fallen Gordon. West's right pant leg above the knee is completely clean.
New this month Revealing mistake: Right after Zeno Baroda says, "M'Guigan, I'm going to kill you," he shoots at the door. Before the bullet is discharged, one can see the door is already damaged where the door is about to be shot. Also, one can see the streak (moving from the left to right) of the prop used to cause more damage on the door from the bullet's impact.
New this month Continuity mistake: As the toy bear is making its way to Gordon, in the background to the right of the window is a plant on a wooden stand. Next to it is a full length long green curtain with gold tassled fringe at the bottom. Gordon throws the toy bear through the window, but there is no glass breaking. The tall wooden plant stand now is wrapped inside the curtain, and the golden fringe cannot be seen.
New this month Character mistake: There are seven mourners dressed in black surrounding Gordon's casket - three on each side and one by the funeral officiator (who is the disguised Gordon). Later in the scene when West is talking to the disguised Gordon, Gordon says, "How do you like that - six mourners..."
00:05:20 - 00:07:10
Visible crew/equipment: The arm of the actual carriage driver is visible poking through the back of the carriage, slapping the horse and signaling it when to stop/proceed with a second set of reins, showing the actor in the carriage was not controlling the horse at all.
Revealing mistake: Mr. Braine screams as his steam-powered chair crashes into the bandstand. If you look closely at the next shot, just before the explosion, you can see that the dummy now in the chair has its head bowed forward. It also has light brown hair, rather than Mr. Braine's silver hair.
Factual error: At the mint, Arte hides in a broom closet. He carries nothing in (nor did he hide anything in there beforehand), yet he emerges later in an "old man" disguise, wearing a wig, hat, mustache, false nose, glasses and janitor costume. Magic closet?
Continuity mistake: "Night of the Bubbling Death": When Grigsby first approaches the stolen U.S. Constitution, it's under glass (we can see the light reflections). But seconds later he lifts the paper without removing the glass, which has disappeared. It's back later, when West must cut it to retrieve the document.
00:09:10 - 00:36:30Jean G
Factual error: The small round table in West's railcar parlor has a flip-over top, with secret maps hidden on the underside. The wine decanter and glasses all stay attached when it flips. But impossibly, when West turns the tabletop back over at the end, there's a full cup of coffee sitting on it.
Revealing mistake: "Night of the Bubbling Death": Artemus takes off his coat and is wearing smoke canisters strapped to his back underneath. But the close fit of his jacket in previous shots reveals that the device wasn't there until just before he began removing the coat.
Revealing mistake: "Night of the Underground Terror": During the climactic fight scene, James West's famously tight trousers rip apart in the crotch, amply revealing his very 20th-century white jockey briefs. A few shots later, that rip mends itself and the pants are split (much more decorously) down the right outer seam instead.
Continuity mistake: Halfway between the opening credits and first freeze frame, Gordon and Ms. Lily Fortune are seen entering the private train car in the dark of night, but the shot before their entrance is of the front of the private train car at twilight. That shot of the train car also shows a backwards number 3.
Revealing mistake: West and Gordon burn a perfect circle (unlikely in and of itself) in the metal floor in order to break into the dungeon below. West punches the circle out with his fist, then grasps what should be white-hot edges with his bare hands before jumping through the opening. Even if wood it would still be too hot to touch.
Continuity mistake: "Night of the Bubbling Death": The dust left on West's jacket after the fight changes patterns several times, then disappears altogether when he enters the building. A shot of his feet shows us that his formerly dusty boots also polished themselves.
Continuity mistake: West tosses a small grenade at the French doors. We see it hit and explode without breaking a single pane or crosspiece. It just makes smoke and blackens the surface. After a shot of West and Gordon, we cut back to the door and it's now a broken ruin with no glass and the wood framing destroyed. Delayed action bomb?
Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the episode, as Jim West walks away from the newsstand vendor and closes the magazine, a 1967 ad for DieHard batteries ("The DieHard Fights the Common Cold") can be seen on the right-hand page of the prop magazine, in a modern sans serif font.
Revealing mistake: About half way through this episode, the hooded man West is chasing goes through double doors and closes them. West slams his body to open the doors. He steps back to ram his body into the doors again to force them open. Before he does, we see the doors sort of slightly move back and forth (this looks very odd and unnatural) before West slams them open.
Continuity mistake: West has a different hairstyle as it is parted down the middle when he is fighting outside the Nugget Saloon. In the inside fight and throughout this episode, there is no part in his hair - with the only exception of this outside fight.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the episode when West walks into the mansion where the meeting is behind held, just as he enters, Lt. Armand Renard can be seen talking to Artemus at the bottom of the staircase, but Renard died earlier in the episode. They obviously filmed this scene at the same time as the first scene, but missed that continuity error in the editing.
New this month Continuity mistake: In pursuit of the photographer, West jumps out of the window and lands on a cart of stuffed burlap sacks. West's right shoulder area, back of his suit's jacket's right arm and right pant leg area are very dirty. As West runs after the photographer, his suit keeps getting cleaner and cleaner.
New this month Continuity mistake: When Loveless crawls into the hollow log for protection against the fire, he leaves the horn by the log's entrance. Its mouth piece side is almost touching the log and is parallel to the log. The next shot shows the charred horn perpendicular to the log.
New this month Continuity mistake: As the delivery man opens the door of the personal train car to leave, the backdrop shows greenery directly by the door. The last shot shows the train amid a very arid area with the trees way off in the distance.
New this month Continuity mistake: When West is untied from the pillar, a close-up shot of his foot shows him stepping on the wooden plank that activates the force field. The next shot shows him walking on the plank, but the force field was activated before he steps on it (from a wide angle shot).
New this month Other mistake: After West escapes out of the room where he was tied, he is hiding behind a tall plant by the staircase. There is a person dressed in black lying at the top of stairs who ever so slightly moves. After the fight scene, West attempts to leave from the front door where he is met by the Marquis. When West is backing up into the room, as the Marquis says, "Boys!", one of them is now descending down from the top of stairs - no one is lying on the steps or getting up from steps.
New this month Continuity mistake: Halfway through this episode, West's hands are tied to the bedpost. He frees a hidden knife from his lower right sleeve. The close-up of his right wrist shows two rope strands binding him. When West finally gets the knife in the position to cut the rope, only one rope strand is wrapped around his wrist.
Continuity mistake: Towards the beginning of this episode when West is first taken to see the commandant, Cochon goes to the rack on the wall to get West a clean shirt. They are standing by the door where Cochon throws the dirty shirt. There are three pegs on the rack, with a shirt hanging on the leftmost peg and rightmost peg. Cochon gets the shirt off the one on the right peg. As they walk away, West's dirty shirt is now on the ground under the left peg. After the meeting with the commodant, West and Cochon leave. Cochon asks for the clean shirt that West is wearing. When Cochon goes back to the rack to get West a replacement shirt, the shirt that was on the far left peg is now on the center peg, but West's dirty shirt is still under the left peg.
Continuity mistake: Before the first freeze frame, West passes out on his right side with his head resting on his right bicep. In the next scene when West regains consciousness, he is facing down with his head resting on folded arms - his head on the left forearm.
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of this episode, West is climbing up the latter out of the ice storage room. The seat of his pants are noticeably dirty as are both of his calves' areas. When West exits onto the street, his pants are inexplicably clean during this shootout scene. During West's fight with Brutus, West's entire back - from shoulders to the bottom of the legs of his pants - has been quite dirtied from rolling on the ground. West then runs to fight Sergei. When Sergei falls off the horse, and West is hovering over him, the entire back of West's clothes now seem only to be faintly dusty. When West leaves the fight area to enter into the funeral parlor, his clothes are immaculate.
Continuity mistake: Three fourths into this episode, West is inside the wall of the mouse hole. Wearing his blue suit, he enters a knot in the wall onto a ramp. While sliding down, West is now wearing an emerald green suit. When West is sliding into the octagon container, he is wearing the blue suit again.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the closing scene, their private train is shown moving right next to tall green trees with large mountains directly behind the trees. The final shot of the scene shows the train in a very desert-like location moving towards the trees and mountains which are shown in the far distance.
Revealing mistake: Two scenes after the opening credits, West fights the strongman Titan. When Titan throws West (who is horizontally positioned on Titan's shoulders) down to the ground through the circus tent, a mattress upon which West lands is mistakenly exposed.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after the opening credits, West's hair is brushed back from his right side. It stays that way for the rest of the scene - as he is shaving, after he is drugged, as he is shooting at Dr. Loveless, as he looks out the window at the fallen Loveless, and as he runs out of hotel looking for Loveless. While West is still outside, Gordon arrives, and West's hair looks as if has gel in it when he is talking with Gordon. After the first freeze frame, West's hair goes back to the non-gel look.
Continuity mistake: Right before the second freeze frame, the invisible Midas knocks out Gordon who ends up on the floor at the foot of the staircase. Midas knocks out West who ends up on the floor at the foot of the staircase in the same spot where Gordon was, but who is no longer there.
Continuity mistake: Before the third freeze frame when Midas is outside with West and Gordon, all the people around them are motionless. Midas suspends his flask above his left shoulder. The next camera shot shows the flask several inches lower. Then, the shot from behind Midas shows the flask suspended back to its original position above his left shoulder. During this outside scene, there was a slight breeze which caused both the curtains of the coach to move as well as the lady's lower dress (the one standing behind Midas). When the three move inside, the people suddenly "freeze", but the woman's cape is still slightly moving as well as the gentlemen on the screen's right. When they go into the gallery which houses the jewelry, the motionless actors are not as still as the ones who were outside.
Continuity mistake: The scene right before the third freeze frame shows the iron gates slowly closing behind West and Gordon. There are three vertical rows of bars showing on each side of the gate. When Midas turns around and walks towards them, there is only one vertical bar showing on each side, and the gates have stopped closing.
Continuity mistake: In the first scene, West and the Minister are viewing the Kara diamond encased in a transparent protective cube. As they walk to the window, in the background one can see the protective cube, however, the diamond is no longer there. The protective cube explodes revealing the diamond is missing - however, it was already missing before the cube exploded.
Continuity mistake: Between the first and second freeze frames, an envoy from Washington is at the boxcar door. In the background, one can see somewhat large trees and a large size mountain. The train's close-up for this scene shows the trees and mountains at a much smaller scale.
Continuity mistake: After the first freeze frame, West is trapped in a pit. The camera angle from above shows him standing on a pail with his arms extended upward - so he can hold on to the beam - as he is waiting for the fuse to thrust him upward. At the moment the fuse propels him upward, the close-up shows West's arms down at his side, but as he is ascending towards the beam his arms are extended upward.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after the second freeze frame, Gordon enters the room where West and Captain Leon are being held. Gordon drops his monocle to the ground and with his foot hides it with the debris on the ground to cover it up. When Gordon leaves, the camera shot shows West picking up the monocle in plain sight with nothing covering it.
Continuity mistake: In the scene before the opening freeze frames occur, a giant mask, hanging on the wall, is shown several times. A close-up of the shape of the tongue before it shoots the arrow is not the same elongated shape which was shown a few seconds earlier.
Continuity mistake: In the closing scene of this episode, there is a daytime close-up of their boxcar. When Ms. McCoy walks into the boxcar, it is pitch black outside. Ms McCoy leaves after a very short visit. The last shot of the boxcar leaving shows it is nighttime.
Continuity mistake: After West saves the man from falling into the spiked pit, they walk to leave but a trap door opens, and they fall into the water. As they get onto the pier, both of them are soaking wet and have wet hair. They crawl out, sit, and start talking. The close-up of their faces, while they talk, shows that both of them now have dry hair.
Other mistake: Immediately after the opening credits, West has just finished printing a poster. The poster is still on the printing press and shows what was printed face-up. When he prints the next poster, the image is not showing on the face-up side but on the bottom side when he takes it off the printer.
Revealing mistake: In the next to last scene of this episode during the Sawtooth earthquake, while boulders are falling and trees are being uprooted, West, Gordon, and Faith are not struggling to keep their balance so as not to fall, they are just motionless standing - something that cannot happen with such a strong earthquake. The camera, which is shaking, attempts to make it look as if the three are shaking with the earthquake.
Revealing mistake: In the opening earthquake scene right before the freeze frames appear, West and Gordon are in the bar. The glasses and pitcher on the bar by the bartender, the bottles of liquor behind the bartender, the bottle on top of the piano, and the ashtrays on two tables never move out of place, even though other tables have broken, chairs have toppled, the ceiling is destroyed, and the support beam falls. It is obvious the camera is doing the shaking, not the ground.
Revealing mistake: During the final scene where West and his double, Janus, are shooting at one another, the two look identical to one another. West goes to the roof and jumps off onto Janus who is by the cannon. However, the revealing mistake is the original looking Janus is playing the role of West diving off the roof, and the one who is fighting Robert Conrad who is supposed to be playing his double, Janus, is standing by the cannon. When the two begin to fight on the ground, one should not be able to tell the two apart, but it is apparent the faces are different. The mistake is fixed when the two get off the ground and now both fighters look like West.
Continuity mistake: Three fourths into this episode, West is in a room with an hourglass. The hourglass shows a few grains of sand before it empties. Next shot is of Gordon trying to get through the chained gates. Camera shot back to West's room, which shows a fuller hourglass with more sand, which lasts for minutes as this episode continues, until all the sand empties from the top.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after the first freeze frame, Corinne is affixed on a round arrow target. Corinne's body keeps changing positions even though the target has stopped spinning. First long shot, she is horizontal with her head at #3. The close-up has her almost vertical with her head at #1. Next close-up, her head is at #2. Following long shot, she is horizontal (head at #3). This keeps occurring throughout this scene.
Continuity mistake: After the opening credits, West is riding on an open field of short grass to meet his personal train - both train and West stop. West's close-up shot shows a large tree directly behind him - this is impossible for there were no trees close to him in the previous shot.
Continuity mistake: The first transformed freeze frame for this episode appears on the upper right side which is different from the pilot's lower left side. Also, this episode's freeze frame image appears looking like a grainy photo when compared to the pilot's pencil sketch-like image.
Continuity mistake: Three fourths into this episode, West fights several clowns in the bar. West's jacket becomes very dirty around his upper left chest and left knee areas. West runs through a nearby door into the hallway with completely clean clothes. As West is freeing Lionel, only the lower left knee is dirty; the jacket is still clean. The next full shot of West has the knee area clean.
Continuity mistake: The first scene shows West riding into town wearing a blue shirt, a black kerchief, blue corduroy jacket with black leather lapels, black chaps, and a large belt buckle. After he gets off his horse to start walking, the next close-up of him walking shows him wearing a fancy blue vest, a blue neck piece, different blue jacket with blue lapels, and no chaps. West wears this for the remainder of the scene.
Revealing mistake: The exact footage is used in the beginning of the first shot of this episode as well as the when the opening credits have stopped showing - two women walking on the lower right of the screen, two men riding side by side away from the camera, and the coach with one dark and one light colored horse riding into the camera on the screen's left.
Continuity mistake: A bit after midway through this episode, while in the cave, West, wearing a blue shirt, is rolled into a hole on the ground. After the fall, he is wearing a white shirt. There is a close-up of West reaching into his jacket for rope. The close-up shows West wearing a blue vest. He is wearing the white shirt (no vest) as he begins to climb out of the hole, but when he gets out of the hole he is wearing a blue shirt (no vest).
Revealing mistake: Towards the end of this episode, West enters a small house. As the door opens, there is a small piece of furniture with drawers in the front and a red and white checker cloth on top. During the fight scene in this room, this chest of drawers is broken to reveal it is a prop that had the drawers painted on the front.
Continuity mistake: West's close-up before the final scene in the boxcar shows his hair to be brushed back from the right to left and his hair looks full. The next shot in the boxcar, West's hair is distinctly parted on the left and is more flat looking.
Continuity mistake: In the first scene, the close-up of the train entering the town shows the number 22 and is not painted as West's train is. However, when West enters the box car from the town's train depot, it is his box car. Also, as West enters the boxcar, the backdrop of the outside is not of the train depot but looks more like solid brown paneling.
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the first half of this show, the colonel and West are having a drink inside. Both men's clothes are spotless as they walk to the door to go outside. Once they go through the door, the colonel's jacket is noticeably dirty, especially on its right side. When West turns around from seeing Sgt. Tobin's body, the seat of West's pants is also quite dirty with a small tear in the middle of the seat of his pants. When West walks towards his horse to leave, the seat of his pants is spotless and the rip is gone.
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of this episode after the piñatas have exploded, West and Harper sit down to talk. Behind West to the left of the screen, only one blue and white piñata is hanging. The next shot of the two men talking shows three different piñatas hanging behind them.
Continuity mistake: Towards the beginning of this episode, the suit of armor is toppled to the floor. There is nothing between it and the wall. The next time we see the armor, there is a black and gold pedestal between the armor and wall.
Continuity mistake: The last shot before the opening credits, West is knocked out face down with his head resting on this right hand which is on top of his left hand. The very next shot shows West's head resting on his right arm and his left arm is folded underneath his chest.
Continuity mistake: In the scene before the third freeze frame, a large coffin-like rectangular object slides into the water. West is inside this structure. All sides are completely flat. We see the object under water sinking. This one is much shorter, has an oval window, and the side is not completely flat when compared to the one that enters the water. After the freeze frame, West is sitting up with his legs completely extended. The dimensions of this under water container would have to have height and width much longer than the other two containers that have been shown.
Continuity mistake: The first shot of West's eyes, after the opening credits, shows them to be a bit different than usual - as if they had an allergic reaction to something. The second, third, and fourth shots show the eyes back to normal, but the shot of him walking the princess to the door shows a very puffy faced West. After walking her to the door when he turns around, West is back to looking like his typical self for the rest of this episode.
Revealing mistake: Midway in this episode, West is fighting two men in a bedroom. One of them is pushed into the green chest of drawers and breaks it. It is obviously a prop, because the front is a flat piece of painted wood to look like drawers; there are no drawers when this piece falls apart.
Continuity mistake: In the last scene right before West walks into the boxcar, the front of the train shows the number 16, and the square area around the front light is grey with swirl designs above and below the light. At the end of this scene, the last shot is of the front of the train, and it is showing the number 8 with the square area around the front light is red.
Continuity mistake: Before and after the first freeze frame, West's hair is combed from the right side to left. During the next scene when West's hat comes off during the fight, his hair is combed from the left side. In the next scene in the boxcar, his hair is back to being combed from the right. In the last scene of this episode when West is in the boxcar, he has a completely different hair cut. It is much shorter than in the previous scene, very flat looking, and is parted on the left. This last shot makes Mr. West appear to have a receding hairline.
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of this episode when West gets into the casket, the width of the head area is wider than the foot area of the casket. There are only two circular hand grips on a side. When the two monks are carrying it to the furnace, the casket is symmetrically shaped with the head and foot areas being the same width, and there are three round hand grips on the side. Right before the third freeze frame when the monks are in front of the furnace, the casket is back to the original shape with the head area wider than the foot area.
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene, West is shot and falls off the stage coach. He falls to the ground with both arms stretched out horizontally. As the stage coach leaves, his left arm is positioned along side his body. One of the villains throws West's hat, and it lodges between his left hand and body. When West is found unconscious, the hat is resting on his left shoulder.
Continuity mistake: After the third freeze frame, there is an outside fight. West has a major rip in his pants on the left inner seam from the knee to almost his waist - showing his white underwear during the fight. After the camera shot to Gordon and then back to West, his pants are now miraculously mended in the front and inner left leg area with a new large rip on the pant outer right seam from the knee to upper thigh.
Continuity mistake: In the last scene in the train car before President Grant walks in, two bottles are in the middle of the table (labels facing away from one another) with four glasses behind them. When the President enters and walks towards the table, both bottles are now placed further back (labels are now facing to the front) with the four glass and an ashtray in front of the bottles. After the President refuses a drink of wine, the table is back to the original setup - labels faces away one another and glasses are behind the bottles; the ashtray is no longer there.
Continuity mistake: In the scene before the second freeze frame appears, West is wearing a white shirt with a black neckerchief and blue corduroy jacket. In the close-up of West being handcuffed, he is wearing a blue vest and a different non-corduroy blue jacket. For the rest of the episode, West wears the original white shirt with black neckerchief and blue corduroy jacket.
Continuity mistake: In the last scene in the train's box car, after Princess Silva's departure, all three wine glasses are suddenly almost empty when in the shot before, they were more full. Also, both napkins on the table are rearranged between the two table shots.
Continuity mistake: Throughout this episode, the camera shots alternate in showing two trains. After West handcuffs Count Draja on the stage coach, a train is shown with two flags - one on each side of the smokestack (at slanted angles), and the bottom front grill is black. The second time the train appears, the flag is vertical off the side of the train, and the bottom grill has changed to red. The third time the train is shown, there are no flags. The fourth time the train appears, it is the original with two slanted flags and black grill. In the final train shot, the bottom grill has changed to red.
Continuity mistake: Throughout this episode, West's hair keeps switching from being parted on the left and being flat to being combed from the right in a sweeping higher volume style. Before the title appears, in the inside fight scene, it is parted on the right. In the scene after, the part of West's hair has moved to the left side and remains during the scene in the garden house. When West goes through the garden house trap door, right after he enters the home through a secret passage, West's hair is combed from the right with the sweeping more volume hair. After the fight in that room, as he is breaks through the glass, once outside, his hair goes back to being parted on the left and being flat again. The next scene his hair changes to the more full version. West's hair goes flat again when he is with Gordon in the garden house right before the third frozen panel appears (of the five panels in every episode). His hair changes to right combed version when he enters the home with Gordon through the secret passage and remains this way for the rest of the episode.
Continuity mistake: Midway through this episode as West is ascending the outside wooden steps to Moriarty's office, his shirt has a vertical rip in his upper left chest area. Once West goes inside, that rip is no longer there but is replaced by a much larger vertical rip (much lower from his waist up to his chest). This larger rip is seen throughout this scene. When West leaves Moriarty's office, the larger rip is no longer there and the original smaller higher rip re-appears. In the following scene when West is changing his shirt, the smaller upper rip has been replaced by the much larger lower vertical rip.
Continuity mistake: As the boxing match moves from inside to outdoors, West's shirt is drenched on the back, as well as around the collar and top front of the shirt. Outdoors, those areas are dry. When the fight moves by the water, West shirt is torn on his front left (length from the 2nd to 4th buttons). At the end of that scene, that tear no longer shows, but a new one appears much higher (length from 1st to 2nd buttons) and is closer to his arm in the upper left chest area.
Continuity mistake: Before the title appears for this episode, in a long screen shot, West is knocked out face-up with both arms extended above his head; only his left elbow is touching the knocked out bad guy next to him. The next immediate close-up shot of West shows West with only his right arm extended above his head and his body is much closer next to the bad guy. As the title appears, West is face-down resting on his right arm when he starts to regain consciousness.
Factual error: Artemus opens a cabinet to reveal a map of the United States where he and West are keeping track of the alphabetical murders. The map is far out of date for the Grant administration, with what became the state of West Virginia during the Civil War still part of Virginia, and missing entirely the states of Nevada, Oregon, Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota-all of which were part of the union before President Grant took office.
00:04:45 - 00:06:30Mountainsam58
Continuity mistake: West uses a chandelier to knock down a thug wearing a brown vest against the opposite wall in the Saloon. When West gets up, the thug is now lying next to West and wears a green vest rather than brown, and is also closer to the Saloon's bar.
Continuity mistake: West describes to Artie his movements through the fortress using a model of the structure sitting on a table with a green table cloth and gold trim. West's left hand is resting on the table, as is a clear glass dish, as well. Close ups show the model close to the edge where the dish was and West's left hand on his thigh.
Continuity mistake: Eatlier, West smashes the window and removes the drape so he and Liebnicht can escape. Later, when Artie and Triste arrive at the same window, the glass and the drape are not gone, but intact as if West never caused the damage.
Continuity mistake: The Constitution lies flat in the display case. After West cuts a circular piece of glass to remove the document, he takes it out and it is seen to be conveniently rolled up for ease of removal through the circle rather than flat.
Continuity mistake: Once West crosses the acid bath, he leaves a small piece of rope hanging from the zip line. Later, when he meets Artie to recross over the acid bath, the rope has grown to about three feet in length. Artie was too far away (and did not have the equipment to cross) for him to change its length.
Continuity mistake: When Dr. Loveless falls from the sill of the double window, the right half of the frame is open (the camera view being from the outside looking in). When West rushes outside to find the "body" missing, the right frame has closed itself and the left is now open.
Continuity mistake: The boot heel West removes to obtain his hidden explosive somehow reattaches itself by the time he leaps into the mining car. (He doesn't stop to put it back - he's running for his life from a pack of hungry wolves.) His boots also change from black to brown by the time he makes it outside and jumps on his trusty horse.
Revealing mistake: Though the stock footage is of a real wolf, the animal West wrestles with is too-obviously a dog wearing a fake pair of wolf ears. In later wrestling matches between West and the wolves, the attacking beast is a stuffed prop that never moves its legs, head or jaws at all.
Continuity mistake: West demonstrates how the knife popped out of the chair upholstery when pressure was applied. His hand is inches from the blade in one shot, then disappears in the next close-up view. When it cuts back to the master shot, his hand is once again beside the knife.
Revealing mistake: The town of Wickenberg has very peculiar sunlight: it casts shadows in several directions at once. Also notable is the far end of its main street, where a distinct line of demarcation reveals the presence of a painted studio backdrop.
Continuity mistake: When they attack him, Artemus' cellmates are smacked with a wooden chair, which lands broken but upright on the floor. In the very next shot, though, as Artie throws the exploding cigar, the chair is suddenly lying on its side.
Revealing mistake: Tony throws two knives at West - but on the wall where the knives hit, the rectangular openings from which the blades actually emerge are delineated beforehand. Happens again a few scenes later, where slots cut in the door are already there before the knives are thrown. [Spoiler: It's inconsequential to the "revealing" error, but if you play the scene in slow motion, you can see that both times, the knives pop through from the back of the "wall." This is also how the carnival trick is performed.]
Revealing mistake: Mr. Braine fires a mini-rocket at Brendage, killing him. But a poor camera angle reveals the explosive charge going off in the wall more than two feet to Brendage's left. From the angle at which it was fired, the rocket couldn't possibly have hit him.
Continuity mistake: West and Gordon drag Day from the haunted house, prop him on the porch and turn away. When they turn back, they're stunned to see that he's aged 30 years. But if you look closely, you can see that the man they prop on the porch is already gray-bearded and shaggy. So why were they surprised?
Other mistake: In the last fight scene, West runs uphill from the cave entering the scene from the most east side of the screen. There is a bad guy on the ground to West's right side as West is running uphill. The villains chase West, but their shot shows them entering the same scene from the middle of the screen with the guy on the ground on their left side.
Deliberate mistake: After Jeremy Pike drops the box in front of the firing squad and it begins to emit smoke, the wind blows the smoke to the right. The actors playing the soldiers in the firing squad then move themselves into the smoke and begin coughing and choking from it.
Factual error: West and Artie are trying to move a cabinet from the wall. A closeup shot shows West's left hand entering from the right side of the shot to press a button that allows a secret panel to open. Unless West twisted his left hand 180°, then him pressing the button as shown is not possible.
Continuity mistake: When Barclay hangs the bone hatchet back in its place, the outline on the wall supposedly left by the item differs significantly from the artifact itself. (Most noticeable is the upper end: the outline has one long curled tip, but the actual hatchet has two short prongs there.) The outline was apparently drawn without the prop, or from a different prop altogether.
Factual error: Fenlow begins shouting about "one nation, under God, indivisible." This series is set in the 1870s. The Pledge of Allegiance, from which these lines are taken, wasn't written until 1892. And the words "under God" weren't added until 1954.
Factual error: The coin Artemus hands West is a Morgan silver dollar. It's no coincidence that the actor's thumb covers the date on the coin in the inserted close-up. The series is set during Grant's presidential term in the early 1870s, and Morgan dollars weren't minted until 1878, after Grant had left office.
Continuity mistake: The bad guys throw an unconscious West down a chute into the ice house. He goes in with his arms at his sides, then slides with his arms above his head, and finally lands with both hands folded over his stomach - all while remaining unconscious.
