Factual error: Air Force One landed in Wichita, Kansas. The local coroner claimed jurisdiction for Wichita County. The city of Wichita, Kansas is in Sedgwick County, in southern Kansas. Wichita County, Kansas is in western Kansas, about 250 miles from the city of Wichita.
Continuity mistake: In the episode "Untouchable" (Season 3, episode 20), the camera pans across a line of several anime plushies. When the shot then goes wide, several of the plushies have either been re-arranged or removed completely, including a pink plush and the Kyogre plush. It also seems as though there are two Miroku plushies in the scene as well, one near the middle and one off to the side of the left pillow.
Other mistake: Season 5, Episode 12, "Stakeout": The picture on McGee's camera phone is just wrong. It shows not just the man in front of him, but it also shows a hand, holding a camera phone - McGee's camera phone. In other words, the phone is showing a picture of itself and the man, instead of just the man.
Continuity mistake: When Gibbs and the team meet the sheriff and ask to be shown the crime scene, he states that it was in the Edenvale motel room 8. In the opening scene the door that the gentleman knocked on and subsequently got his feet covered in blood from the body bleeding out was room 1.
Continuity mistake: While Tony and Ziva are outside Ziva's hotel eating pizza, Ziva is eating the pizza in one shot with the slice in the shot, in the shot directly before this and directly after, the pizza is no where to be found and she is no longer chewing.
Continuity mistake: Agent Todd is standing there coat open, hands in her pockets on Air Force One watching Gibbs walk away when the bad guy who is a reporter (Leonard) comes up to her and comments "Loosening your dress code Kate". Seconds later when she turns to indicate that he should return to the press section her coat is now buttoned up.
Other mistake: It would appear that (as late as early-Season 5), almost all screen shots of computer forensics include the same hard drive properties screen - it seems to be the same hard drive each time - 111GB, with 93GB used and a 129kb private container on it. I have not noticed whether they are all named drive G:, but several have been. The only thing that changes is the 'header' section, which is manipulated each episode to show something specific (but not real) for the TV audience to read.
Continuity mistake: When Gibbs is trying to talk Lt. Arnett out of jumping off the ledge, Gibbs is relatively close to Arnett in the middle of the wall when Ducky and Abby watch the live news report, but in real time, Gibbs is over at the far left corner of the wall.

Factual error: While the NCIS crew are working a crime scene, Ducky starts yet another parable about his past experiences, referring to the dating of an Indian skeleton by the caliber of the bullet, "a 40-75". He states that since he knew the year that the US Army used that caliber, he could accurately date the remains. Unfortunately for Ducky, the US Army never used a 40-75. It did, however authorize a contract for a 45-70 cartridge in 1873.
Continuity mistake: At the naval base Gibbs is talking about the Marine taking his bike up into the mountains and blasting country music. The person he is talking to has their arms down by their side until the camera changes. They are then behind his back.
Continuity mistake: At the end the little boy tells Gibbs the password he has chosen for his tree house. As he does, Gibbs is working on the railing at the opposite end to the ladder. Gibbs says it's a good password and to come up. However he is now at the end of the railing by the ladder.
Continuity mistake: When Caitlin leaves the Cafe, Tim holds the car door open for her and she gets in. He then closes the door and leans on it. Camera cuts to a different angle and now he is stood up straight and slightly back from the car, with no time to do so.
Continuity mistake: Fornell gives Gibbs a juice box when Gibbs stays with Fornell. Gibbs puts the straw into the box with the straw closest to him. Camera changes and now the straw is at the other end of the box. Since there is only 1 hole for a straw on a juice box it is clear the box has turned around.
Continuity mistake: When Fornell and Gibbs are talking in Gibbs' basement, Gibbs places a red storage box on some wood and there is a fair gap between the red box and the cardboard box that is next to it. When the camera changes, the boxes are almost touching with no-one touching it.
Continuity mistake: When agent DiNozzo and agent Sacks are arguing on the stairs, Sacks proceeds down a flight of stairs. Director Sheppard then calls both of them to the top. When the camera changes, Sacks is level with DiNozzo despite having descended a flight just seconds before.
Continuity mistake: When the bike and Mini turn down a road just after the crash at the start we see the car the bike is approaching from behind has got a junction to its right. Camera changes to behind the bike and now it is buildings to the right of the same car. We know it's the same car as the bike is still approaching the car from behind.
Continuity mistake: We see Ziva take the photos out and place them on the interrogation table and ask the captain to point out their suspect. We then see the Captain pick up a photo. Camera changes to McGee and Tony behind the glass and we see Ziva getting the photos out and places them on the table again.
Revealing mistake: When the Lieutenant is explaining how her gun was in the victim's house, the camera pans behind Gibbs. Pay close attention and you can see a very faint shadow move across his back. Since we see there is nothing behind him on numerous occasions, it can only be part of the film crew.
Continuity mistake: When Gibbs shows Cpl Yost the tape in the interview room, he is burning a match down to his fingers. Camera shows a closeup of the head of the match being extinguished, but it is just the head that is alight. It is not burnt to his fingers. It also goes from horizontal to vertical.
Continuity mistake: The security guard at the start goes to grab his gun and keeps his hand on his holstered weapon. When Gibbs gives the OK, he now has a handheld metal detector in his hand. In the shot showing Gibbs we can see the guard and he doesn't move.
Continuity mistake: When Gibbs arrives at the Naval base in Orlando, we see the woman in a white coat and the coat is open at the bottom (she is doing the buttons up from top to bottom) and billowing in the wind. Camera cuts and the coat is now perfectly still and closed at the bottom.
Continuity mistake: In the final scene, Gibbs is working on his boat wearing safety glasses and has a pencil behind his right ear under the frame. When he learns Sergei has survived his pulls his glasses off in disbelief and the pencil is no longer behind his ear. After a cut away to the director and back to Gibbs again, the pencil has returned and remains there for the rest of the scene, including the black and white closing transition.
Character mistake: Ari tells Ducky and Gerald that if they lie or he suspects them of lying, he will shoot them in a ball-and-socket joint. Ari later shoots Gerald in the shoulder and mentions that next time it would be his knee. The knee is not a ball-and-socket joint. It is a hinge joint. The only other ball-and-socket joint in the human body is located in the hip. Ari is an educated Doctor and should know the difference.
Factual error: There is a flashback scene in this episode, where a young, dejected Abby Sciuto is walking along railroad tracks after failing to give the bear back to Ricki. This scene starts with a shot of the railroad tracks, then pans up to Abby. It can be seen that the rails are laid on concrete sleepers, with modern steel clips holding the rails to the sleepers. Given that the flashback appears to take place when she was at least a couple of decades younger (i.e. the mid-1990s), such modern methods of construction wouldn't have been used. A period-accurate railroad track would have wooden sleepers, spikes and lighter rail. As such, it's obvious that the producers just went to the nearest railroad tracks and filmed the scene there.
Revealing mistake: During season 4 the same television clip of President Bush and VP Cheney disembarking Air Force One is used on the background television in the squad room. In some cases the clip is running and not in unison, on three of the televisions in the same scene from shot to shot.
Continuity mistake: During the scene where Gibbs chases Shariff into the railway station restroom, Gibbs' position on the wall changes, his gun hand passes the corner of the wall at least three times. Also as he starts to fall to the floor, the long shot from low angle close to the urinals shows Gibbs holding the gun with both hands and they are moving to his right, his left shoulder going into he wall. At the cut, the gun is in his right hand only and moving across his body to the left and his right shoulder is now going into the wall. The shot cuts to Shariff, who has moved about a foot to his right during the cut, then cuts back to both Gibbs and Shariff, Shariff has returned to his original position and the gun has moved to Gibbs left hand, although we don't really see the gun until he falls and Shariff picks it up, thus ruling out the possibility of the gun being dropped before he falls. (We do hear the gun hit the floor as he falls.)
Continuity mistake: When Sharif calls Gibbs to gloat, when Sharif ends the call, the shot cuts to Gibbs closing his cell phone, shot cuts to McGee and Col. Mann, when it cuts back to Gibbs, he is closing his phone again. We can even hear the phone close both times.
Continuity mistake: During the scene where Tim and sister Sarah are working on the past evening's timeline, Sarah's clothes lying on the counter change position between the wide shots and the close-ups. Also the plastic her shoes are sitting on in the wide shots disappears in the close-up when she removes them and when she picks up the baggie of money. The screen shot of the locations in the time line also change locations. The 9:30 and 10:00 individual locations show up in the Georgetown University area but when they zoom out to show all three locations, the two time location now show the George Washington University, Foggy Bottom area of D. C., and it shows Tim's residence as being in Arlington National Cemetery.

Factual error: During the sequence where Bankston and Lee are supposed to make the dead drop of Domino, Adams Tavern, the location of the drop, is shown to be at 2177 Pimmit Drive in Woodbridge Va. The map that is showing the location is geographically correct, but "Pimmit Drive" is actually Horner Road. Also once the action leaves the bar, Lee and Bankston hijack a bus that reads "District Transit Authority". Since they are in Woodbridge, the bus service would be OmniLink.
00:30:20 - 00:38:15Spiritfire
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Tony and Ziva discover the dead body in Amanda's hiding place the dead body's extended arm is lying on the rug on the floor, and is left that way when Gibbs tell them to leave, yet in the next scene when Ducky shows Gibbs a picture of the dead body, the rug beneath the extended arm has disappeared.
Continuity mistake: During the investigation of the dead wife's crime scene, the arms of the corpse change position from shot to shot throughout the scene, including a moment where the corpse's arms are crossed, then in the next shot Ducky is shown crossing her arms. Ducky is also shown crossing the same arm twice, and the guitar control also changes direction and position with respect to the body.
00:03:20 - 00:05:30Spiritfire
Continuity mistake: When Tony's dad arrives at the NCIS office for Christmas, he is met at the elevator by Ziva. He is holding a Christmas present (which looks like a bouquet of flowers) with the 'red' end up. As the camera angle changes, he is now holding it 'red' side down.
Continuity mistake: When Tony & Ziva meet their contact in Naples, we see a local cop walking down the background behind them, and passing a walkway to the boat. Seconds later, as the camera changes view, we see that cop about 30 feet back, going the same way.
Continuity mistake: The pill bottle the agents recovered from the house has the Doctor's name "Fleming" to search for. But when McGee searches the NCIS system, he spells the name "Flemming" and gets his results. As well, the scrip sheets for Dr. Flemming archived on the computer, contain several identification numbers - DEA (AJ0000000000), Batch (00000001) & License (C00000.) - not real numbers - so the prop master didn't even try to fake any of them.
Revealing mistake: Part 1 - As Tony eats his donut, and spills the jelly on his shirt, it's clear that (the actor) is moving his body to make that 'accident' happen as scripted. As the jelly begins to leak out, he doesn't move; because it doesn't fall as expected, he jerks suddenly, to make the jelly fall on his shirt. He stops moving, 'shocked' at this, holding the donut with both hands.Part 2 - The camera angle changes to 'behind' him, and he is only holding the donut with one hand.Part 3 - He then grabs at a napkin (just out of frame) to clean it off; the camera cuts to Ziva briefly, then back to Tony, who does not have any napkin. (TIME: Approx. 24:55-25:05.)
Continuity mistake: The year Gibbs joined NCIS is inconsistent. It is revealed in this episode that he joined the NIS in 1992, the same year it became NCIS. But in the JAG crossover episode "Ice Queen", Gibbs tells Commander Rabb that he has been an agent for 19 years, which suggests that Gibbs joined NIS in 1984. And in "Singled Out" in season 4, McGee mentions that Gibbs has been an agent for roughly 16 years, which would put Gibbs' joining NIS in 1990.

Continuity mistake: "Patriot Down": The beach scene in the opening sequence is repeated at the end, but the dialogue differs the second time. Gibbs is kneeling on the sand when someone puts a gun to his head and says, "Welcome to Mexico." When Gibbs reaches for his weapon, the voice growls, "Don't even think about it." These two lines are delivered in reverse order when the scene replays at the end.

Revealing mistake: When Ducky and Gibbs are in the morgue examining the body of the girl found in the hotel, the camera cuts for a few seconds to the girl lying on the slab. During that shot, you can see her neck moving to her pulse (just after Ducky says, "There's some bruising on the sternum").
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Gibbs' phone breaks, and he tells McGee to "reboot" it, Tony is in the back, getting a phone out of the cabinet. He starts to give the phone to McGee. The next shot, the cabinet opens again, and Tony pulls out the phone again and gives it to McGee.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Chip first brings the evidence to Abby (after getting it from Mr. Palmer), in one shot, her spiderweb tattoo is on the right side of her neck, and Chip is standing to her right. In the next shot, her tattoo is on the left side of her neck, as it normally is, and Chip is standing to her left.
Plot hole: When Gibbs discovers the body in the hotel room he is on the phone with Kate. As Kate starts to describe the man Suzanne remembered, Gibbs interrupts and describes the dead man, including his tie. The camera then pans over to show the man lying face down. There is no way Gibbs could have seen his tie.

Factual error: After Gerald gets back to NCIS HQ, he notes that he wasn't able to drive Ducky's Morgan; a stick. Abby brags about knowing how to drive a stick since she was ten. When asked what she drove that had stick, she answered, "Red '47 Ford half-ton with four on the floor and Bubba riding shotgun." When asked who Bubba was, she answered that he was the best coon dog in Jefferson Parish. If in fact Abby grew up in the city of New Orleans, as stated by McGee in the episode before, the dog would not have been the best coon dog in Jefferson Parish but Orleans Parish. No part of New Orleans is inside the Parish of Jefferson. If it was truly the best coon dog in Jefferson Parish then Abby would have lived in Metarie or Kenner, Louisiana, both of which are inside the parish limits of Jefferson Parish.

Character mistake: When Kate pretends to be Abby, trying to trick Ari, he deduces that she's not upon seeing her gun in its holster, and doesn't pick up on the more blatantly obvious fact that her manner of dress doesn't match Ducky's description of Abby as a Goth.

Character mistake: Ducky states that the Romans believed that the vein of 4th finger on the left hand ran directly to the heart, thus, logically, it was the "ring" finger. However, there is no evidence that the belief originated with the Romans, nor that the 4th finger has a special vein...the fingers in the hand have a similar vein structure.
Continuity mistake: When talking to the warehouse manager, the manager has a clipboard with pink post it notes on. Watch closely and you will see the clipboard is constantly facing different directions as indicated by the pink post it notes. It some shots it's facing away from the manager, and in others it's facing the manager.
Continuity mistake: When Gibbs comes to Abbie's lab to inquire about the smoke detector and computer, the CPU is disassembled on her lab table with the "hard drive" sitting on a white tray that is positioned in front of the computer cover that has been removed from the CPU. The "hard drive" is white colored. At the cut to a close up of the hard drive it is now black and a completely different piece, the white tray has disappeared and the hard drive is sitting on the CPU cover. When it cuts back to the wide shot the white try has returned and the hard drive is back to the original white.
Continuity mistake: When inside the Smithsonian, Tony is fooling around with a bear. The baseball hats on all 3 agents have black trim on the brim, then white trim, then black trim. Zeva says her hat has a 9mm hole, and pokes a finger through a hat with a black trim. Gibbs says it is for ventilation. Then she drives home, the hats have white trim, and hers has no hole.
Continuity mistake: When Tony tells Ziva he won't help her track down the remaining 'Smiths', a woman in the background is walking down the stairs; as Tony stands up, she takes two steps down from the lower landing. When the camera shot changes on Tony, she's back on the landing. TIMECODE: 25:17.
Visible crew/equipment: As Gibbs, Ziva & Tony enter the Nelson home with guns drawn; just after Ziva enters, a man can be seen reflected in the door's window (Gibbs & Tony are in frame, and there is no other character there). Tony enters, then Gibbs - and we see the cameraman reflected also.TIME: 19:45.
Other mistake: When McGee tells Gibbs that Nelson erased his entire hard drive, the camera shows the diagnostic he is running - "Primary Drive Erased: 100%". Yet the details below show 93GB used of 111GB total, and the drive letter is G: (not C: as it would most likely be.) It could be argued that his C: drive is simply an OS drive, and G: is his data drive, but still, 93GB used is not 'erased'.TIME: 22:05.
Revealing mistake: When Tony is telling Gibbs & Ducky that Abby got a hit on the dead sailor's fingerprints, Gibbs takes the file from Tony; the camera shows the file, which appears to be a legitimate profile sheet, but in the comments section, is the script that Tony just read aloud.
Visible crew/equipment: Just near the end, as Ducky faces the other M.E. in Autopsy with his guilt, the camera shows a person reflected in the silver wall (who would be standing beside Ducky). It's not Ducky, as the M.E. is looking at and talking to Ducky with a different angle. The person appears to be dressed in medical scrubs, but the M.E. and Ducky are the only two in the room.
Continuity mistake: When Tony and Abby determine where the car holding Lt. Cmdr Wilkerson hit a pair of railroad tracks, Tony has a napkin tucked into his shirt like a bib. In the next shot, the napkin has disappeared from his shirt, and he is holding it in his hand instead.
Character mistake: McGee seeks Director Vance's permission to hack into the Sea Hawk's computer system. He says that in the past four months, he hasn't worked any crime scenes, etc. This is incorrect, as near the start of the episode, he and Ziva go to an officer's home to advise his wife that he is missing. They discover her murdered and then the team, including McGee, are working the crime scene.
Continuity mistake: Episode "Heartland": In the first five minutes of the show, after the guys are beaten up in the alley, when the black guy is laid down on the ground there is a blood stain on the wall, behind where he was standing. When the other guys go to the white guy's aid the blood stain is gone, for about 3-4 shots. When the NCIS team is there gathering evidence the blood is back on the wall.
