New this month Character mistake: The Doctor gets excited about the major events of 1953 and mentions that everything was "off the ration" (that is, the food rationing put in place in the UK during the Second World War had ended). Rationing actually ended the following year. (00:05:55)paolog
New this month Factual error: The graphics depicting the black hole show matter falling directly towards the centre of it. This would only happen if all the matter happened to be heading in that direction already. In reality, matter approaching the black hole at any other angle would swirl around the event horizon, like water going down a plughole.paolog
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Ida descend into the core of Krop Tor, the screen charting their progress shows 39% Oxygen. After cutting away to an overhead shot of the two, the camera cuts back to the same descent display, only now the oxygen percentage (which has been descending constantly all this time) is at 42%. (00:35:25)LizzieWD
Other mistake: When the Doctor tells the Atraxi "Oh, you're not the first lot to have come here, there have been so many," one of the monsters shown from their scan of Earth is a group of Ood. Even if in one of their uprisings they attacked the Earth, it would have been in the far future. The Doctor has had no encounters with them on Earth, and he knows them to be peaceful, so why would they be amongst the aliens who have threatened the planet? The only Ood who has been to Earth at this point is Ood Sigma, and he didn't come to attack. In addition, a group of Hath is also shown. These aliens have never been seen on Earth at all. (00:53:30)Captain Defenestrator
Continuity mistake: As the scarecrow-soldiers advance on the school to do battle, the scene cuts to Sister of Mine, looking out from a school window. There is heavy rainfall outside. When we immediately cut back to the advancing scarecrows, it is a cold, clear night.LizzieWD
Factual error: Magnetic tape recorders weren't available outside of Germany during World War II. True the tape recorder could have been captured from the Germans, but, as it was "cutting edge" technology for 1941, it would hardly be likely to have ended up in a hospital office.
Revealing mistake: When they show the soldiers killed by the Dalek, in both the hallway outside the cage and the large room in weapons testing, they show some casings which were ejected from the soldiers' guns. The casings still have projectiles in them. If used, they would have been in magazines and would never fall out like they are shown.papajim
Deliberate mistake: The final Auton attack in this episode is supposed to take place in a busy London street, but it is a pedestrianised area, and several shots reveal this. For example, there are no road markings visible, no apparent distinction between pavement and road, and a bus stop appears to sit in the middle of the 'road'.
Factual error: One of the programs on the new television set is Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?. In 1953, this quiz show was broadcast on Thursdays. But, it's the eve of the coronation, which makes it Monday the 1st of June. Animal, Vegetable, Mineral? wasn't on that evening.
Factual error: In the opening shot of this episode, we see the Earth from space. The camera then zooms into Western Europe, the UK, London, then into Rose Tyler's flat, where a jump cut to an alarm clock shows it's 7:30am. But look again at the start of that sequence: it shows that it's daylight over the UK - and over the USA. This is of course impossible. When it is 7:30am in London, it is 2:30am in New York, as Eastern Time is 5 hours behind UK time. In New York at 2:30am it is not daylight, because it is the middle of the night. In addition, later episodes make it clear this episode is set in March. The North Pole is fully sunlit, which it never is in March, due to the equinox that happens that month. (00:00:50 - 00:02:00)
Revealing mistake: When the Doctor travels back in time after being shot by the stone Dalek, falls down the stairs and tells himself that he has 12 minutes to live we never see either of the 2 Doctors' faces onscreen at the same time, and if you look at the hair on the Doctor that's dying it is completely different to Matt Smith's. That's because it is Gordon Seed, Matt Smith's stunt double.THGhost
Plot hole: Those people created for medical experiments cannot run. In fact they can barely walk, so how come they can climb nearly as fast as Rose? What's more, when you see them climbing, they seem to have little ability to coordinate hand over hand. Even with the delay brought on by the cat-woman-thing, they should not have been able to keep up with her.
Revealing mistake: When the alien spacecraft crashes into Big Ben, it is obvious that the shot has been reversed/flipped around. Look at the Roman numerals on Big Ben's clock face: They should read (clockwise from the top) XII, I, II, III, and so. Instead they read IIX, IX, X, etc. (00:06:35)
Visible crew/equipment: After Miss Kizlet enters her office to find the walking base station Doctor sitting at her desk, as she walks around the motorbike lying on the broken glass, when this 'Doctor' says, "Yes, those still with bodies to go home to would be free," we can see the moving reflection of two crew members on the surface of the motorbike.Super Grover
Continuity mistake: Miss Kizlet wears a large silver brooch on her suit's right lapel in every shot of her, but after Clara notices the lights going out behind her house, when it cuts back to the office Kizlet's brooch switches to her left lapel just before it cuts back to the Doctor and Clara, and since the brooch has a distinctive design we can tell that it's a flipped shot. (00:24:10)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: After Strax hits Clara with a newspaper she comes downstairs and he asks her if she needs anything. She asks for water and he places the bucket of mop water on the table in front of Clara. They have a conversation about the water and at the end of the conversation Clara looks at her newspaper and the bucket has disappeared from the table in front of her. Neither of them moved it. (00:26:45)Aled Wesker
Revealing mistake: The 'earthquake' that takes place in this episode results in CGI-created cracks in the pavement that are very unconvincing. They do not appear to displace anything and - in a related continuity error - the cracks disappear in shots taken from ground level (the cracks are only visible in high-level 'looking down' shots). (00:34:30)
Revealing mistake: The Doctor and Rose locate the "metal" hatch that leads down into the Nestene Consciousness' lair. Watch carefully after the Doctor removes the "metal" hatch and moves it aside. The entire hatch pops up a second later. This is because it is plastic and it was suctioned to the floor.todd mosley
Continuity mistake: When Rose presents her mother with the Bazoolium, she's holding it in her left hand. When the view switches to look at Jackie, it shifts to Rose's right hand and then immediately back to her left when the view restores to the original vantage point. (00:02:45)LizzieWD
Plot hole: In "Aliens of London", it is established on a 'missing person' poster that Rose Tyler is approximately 19 years of age in March 2005 (The poster says 'missing since 6 March 2005'). This means that she must have been born prior to March 1986. However, in "Father's Day", which is dated 7 November 1987, Rose is still a baby in her mother's arms, when she should be a toddler aged approx two.
Factual error: Ida, the science officer, says that the planet is in geostationary orbit around the black hole. However, the word "geostationary" applies very specifically to objects orbiting the planet Earth. Since a black hole is a type of star, this planet's orbit could be described as astrostationary, or even just stationary, but definitely not as geostationary. A science expert on an interstellar mission wouldn't make this mistake, and she wasn't dumbing things down, either, since "geostationary orbit" is already a pretty obscure topic for people unfamiliar with space technology. (00:07:40)DavidK93
Continuity mistake: When the three bride Autons attack Jackie, and they open their hands one at a time, it is clear that when the second Auton opens its hand, all three are already open. After it cuts to Rose, and back to Jackie again, the third one opens (even though we just saw it already open). (00:38:15)LizzieWD
Revealing mistake: During the scene in which the Doctor is climbing the transmitter, there is a shot in which he is viewed from above and is then struck by lightning. In this shot, the Doctor's foot disappears briefly as it leaves the green screen on the ground under the actor. (00:38:25)
Deliberate mistake: When Jack is scanning the gas mask people, he has a scanner on his right wrist. However, when he shows Rose and the Doctor his image of the Chula warship, the scanner is on his left wrist. The makers flipped the stretch of film, according to the commentary, to make the shot work. (00:37:45)
Other mistake: When Miss Hartigan is testing the earpod control, the men start off facing her. She instructs them to turn to the right. They turn 90 degrees clockwise. She then tells them to turn to the left. They turn 180 degrees anticlockwise. However, they should have only turned 90 degrees anticlockwise, and end up facing her again. What they actually do is turn on the spot, as opposed to turning left. It takes a further instruction from Miss Hartigan for them to face her again.LizzieWD
Factual error: When the Doctor spots Rory taking a photo of Prisoner Zero, we're shown a brief close-up of Rory's hospital identity badge. The date of issue is given as "30/11/1990". The main body of the episode is set in 2008, two years before Rory and Amy's wedding in 2010. It's further established in the episode that Rory and Amy played together as children after her first meeting with the Doctor in 1996, with Rory observing that Amy made him dress up as the Raggedy Doctor. Rory could not possibly have worked for the hospital for eighteen years at the time of the episode. (00:33:10)Tailkinker
Factual error: When Rose is locked in the room and the bodies come toward her, you can see a modern-day electric light-switch to the side of the door she's trying to get through. When the Doctor hears her screaming for help and runs for her, you can see a central heating radiator. In fact, the undertaker's house has at least two radiators in different hallways. Both are wildly anachronistic for the time period.
Revealing mistake: When Mickey closes the wheelie bin lid, he then finds the plastic stuck to his hands, he lifts his hands up and the plastic stretches like tar. If you look closely when he lifts his hands up for the first time, you'll see that a shadow of one of his hands is cast on his shirt, but there is no shadow of the strands of plastic stuck to his fingers. Additionally, when he turns around to pull away from the bin, he crosses the strands over each other, but they are still parallel in the following scene. (00:22:40)LizzieWD
Character mistake: In an early scene with Yvonne Hartman, she says "We've just measured the ghosts' energy at 5000 gigawatts." There are at least two mistakes here: (1) watts are a unit of power, not of energy (that would be joules); (2) later on, when Hartman is showing the Magnaclamp to the Doctor, she refers to imperial tons and says "Torchwood refuses to go metric", but a gigawatt is a metric unit.paolog
Revealing mistake: When the Doctor and Rose are talking at the bay, the Doctor's hair is blowing in the wind, but it's not when he is shown in the TARDIS. Considering the image of him on the beach is a projection of him in the TARDIS, the two versions should match. The actor was obviously on the beach recording his lines with Rose and back on a set doing the inside scenes.
Continuity mistake: When Mickey enters one of the school's computer rooms, dozens of pupils are busy typing, and every one of them is also wearing headphones. However, once Mickey unplugs the main connection for the computers, and shouts for the students to leave, when the students begin to get up, their headphones have instantly removed themselves from their heads and been placed neatly on the desks next to the computer keyboards. (00:36:25)
Factual error: Emergency Service vehicles in Cardiff (indeed, throughout Wales) have their signs in bilingual English/Welsh. So the police cars and ambulances seen in this episode should have 'Heddlu'/'Police' and 'Ambwlance'/'Ambulance' bilingual logos. However, the police car seen after the earthquake has its label in Welsh only.
Factual error: When Rose gets the message there are two things wrong with what you see on the phones screen: firstly on the top right of the screen you can see the icon for mute even though you heard the beep, and secondly that screen is for when you type in the number you want to call (text), not the screen for receiving a text.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the episode, Donna piles suitcases in the Doctor's arms in preparation to leave with him in the TARDIS, and places a striped hat box on top. The bags stay that way for a while as the camera cuts back and forth between them, and you can see the stack of luggage as the camera films the Doctor from behind. Then, as soon as the camera cuts back to the Doctor's face when Donna leaves to give her mother the car keys, suddenly he has one bag under his arm and another in his hand, and the rest of the bags are on the ground with the hat box stacked neatly on top. In addition, when the scene cuts from Donna closing the hatch of her car to her and the Doctor standing by the TARDIS, a large floral-patterned suitcase has appeared, which she was not shown removing from the vehicle. (00:43:15)
Deliberate mistake: When the Doctor visits all his recent companions before he regenerates, he goes to a book signing of A Journal of Impossible Things, written by Joan Redfern's great-granddaughter. When she is signing the book for the Doctor, you can hear the scratching effect from the pen but you can see that the pen isn't touching the paper. (00:59:50)Professor Lazarus
Factual error: When introducing himself to the Toclafane, President Winters refers to himself as "President-elect of the United States of America." President-elect is the title given to the victor of an American presidential election who has not yet been sworn in, between early November and January 20. This was a mistake on Russell T Davies' part, as he was under the impression it was a longer, formal title for the American president. (00:37:40)
Factual error: When the Doctor regrows his hand during the swordfight, he says that he can do this because he's still within the first 15 hours of his regeneration cycle, and there's still residual energy in his body. However: In both this scene, and the episode's opening scene, when the TARDIS arrives in London, it is full daylight. The episode takes place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, 3-4 days after the Winter Solstice. London, at 51°N latitude, has a night longer than 15 hours at that time of year, meaning the Doctor should have been out of luck.
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Clara are on the rooftop terrace, there's a distinctive design on the Doctor's bow tie, but when he's in the coffee shop the bow tie's design differs, and when he runs outside to ask if Clara's okay it changes back, then it changes again when he's in back the shop. Additionally, when the walking base station Doctor uploads Clara it's wearing a bow tie, and its design also changes on the motorbike and in Kizlet's office.Super Grover
Continuity mistake: While Clara shouts, "I don't know where I am," over and over, the Doctor sonics his way into the house. When he kneels beside Clara, then notices the 'girl' on the stairs and stands up, in the shots facing him we can see that the young actress stands on the step facing the stairway (note her legs), with her hand at her side, but in the shots facing the girl she stands facing the door with her hand on the banister. (00:14:20)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor yells at Handles for putting him on the Dalek ship, the Doctor grabs him and carries the head with his right arm, then switches the head to his left arm. However, in the close-up as the Doctor asks, "What does this question mean?" we see Handles is back on the Doctor's right arm, but next shot as the phone rings, Handles is carried on the Doctor's left arm again.Super Grover
Continuity mistake: When Clara and the Doctor watch the lights going out, they first stand in front of the chair, but when the Doctor notes that some planes have WiFi, they stand behind the chair. That chair switches from in front of them to behind them another couple of times. (00:24:00)Super Grover
Plot hole: Near the end of the episode, the part-human Doctor is said to have all of the memories of the original Doctor. If this is true, then the part-human Doctor should remember the time the original Doctor spent with Rose, so shouldn't commit genocide or need Rose to help him to not be a man of killing.
Other mistake: The security guards shoot away the lock on the door, which they then kick down with no real effort. But the door would still be held in place by the hinges - they don't kick it with enough force to rip the hinges out, and even if they had, we can see that there's no damage on the hinge side of the door anyway to demonstrate their forcible removal. (00:24:20)Jon Sandys
Continuity mistake: When Lawrence is watching the Weeping Angel, just after seeing the Doctor's film/Easter egg, he turns away for a split second. By the time he turns back, you see the Weeping Angel's face only inches from Lawrence's face. But you then cut to a wide shot where you see the Angel's arms outstretched, so its face is about half a metre away from Lawrence's face. (00:34:45)
Factual error: Look closely at some of the freight wagons at 'Limehouse Green' railway station: several of them appear to have 'British Rail Freightliner' livery. This episode is set in 1941, but British Rail did not exist until 1948, and the Freightliner Division did not exist until the 1980s.
Continuity mistake: When the two Cybermen meet the Dalek for the first time, they are exterminated. They fall directly in front of the Dalek, but when the camera angle changes to show the second Cyberman hitting the floor side on, you can see the Dalek in the background. The Cybermen both fell straight forward, so it shouldn't have been possible to see the Dalek when seeing the Cyberman side on in the next shot, as the Dalek is facing them both directly.UKFilmFan
Continuity mistake: After Miss Evangelista is killed, we see her communicator as her "ghost" slowly fades. In one shot we see from a slight distance the lights left lit tick down to 3, then a short while passes, we cut back and the lights are back to 4. They then tick down to 3 again.Jon Sandys
Continuity mistake: When they are back in the cemetery at the end, the Angel shows up right behind Rory. In the first shot facing Rory, as the camera zooms in on a close-up of the Angel, the Angel's right arm/hand is pointing straight out, and its left open hand is up in a grabbing position. After River asks where the hell it came from, in the Angel's next close-up and all subsequent close-ups, its arm/hand positions are reversed - left hand is pointing straight out and its right hand is up. Yet in every shot of the Doctor, River and Amy together, in the foreground we see the Angel's left hand is up in the grabbing position. (00:37:35)Super Grover
Factual error: A reflection of a full Moon is shown near the end. When Earth is viewed from the Moon earlier, over half of it is illuminated by the Sun. For it to be full Moon, the entire Earth would have to be dark. In addition, the place where the hospital was transported to was dark, and not sunlit. (00:37:45)
Other mistake: After the Doctor tells Bill that Heather's face isn't symmetrical, when he and Bill look into the "puddle" together the Doctor explains that instead of seeing her normal backwards reflection, she's seeing her face "the right way round." The problem occurs in the next shot of the Doctor and Bill seen in the puddle, because the "WOW!" patch on Bill's jacket is properly where it should be, but note everything else is actually backwards. Things such as Bill's color-block top and her denim jacket buttons are on the opposite way. Also note the Doctor's ring has switched hands. Presumably this shot was edited, and the "WOW!" patch was blurred on the left of Bill's jacket then digitally added to the right side, to give the appearance that it's "the right way round" as the Doctor said. (00:20:15)Super Grover
Factual error: The Doctor (and the staff on the station) refer to the idea of a planet being in orbit around a black hole as 'impossible'. It is not. Gravity (and physics in general) works perfectly well outside of the event horizon. For all practical purposes - regarding orbiting around it - the black hole might as well be any other object, as long as it has an equal mass. (00:07:15 - 00:08:30)
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Donna asks the woman if she could borrow £10 because it's Christmas, you can see that Donna is wearing sports shoes instead of her usual white wedding shoes. (00:10:05)LizzieWD
Continuity mistake: When the Master stands up on the Valiant to announce that he is the Toclafane's "Master", President Winters is visible in the background, only the Toclafane aren't there. In the next shot, they return, buzzing around Winters' head.LizzieWD
Character mistake: When the Doctor is taking Donna to 4.6 billion BC to watch the formation of the Earth, he says that it is the furthest back the TARDIS has ever been. But in the 5th Doctor episode "Castrovalva", the TARDIS drifted to 13.2 billion BC and the formation of the galaxy. (00:40:35)Josman
Continuity mistake: Near the beginning of the episode, the Doctor and Jack destroy a Dalek who is inside the TARDIS. It is seen again later when the Doctor, Rose and Jack come back into the TARDIS after talking with the Dalek Emperor. Yet later when the Doctor is sending Rose home, there is no destroyed Dalek. (00:14:20)LizzieWD
Continuity mistake: When Rose is sitting on a bench and she gets a news report on her phone, look at the top of the phone screen - it says the time is 11:35. However, several minutes later, when the Doctor and Mickey find Rose, the clock says it's only 11:36. (00:15:05)
Continuity mistake: Near the end of "Silence in the Libary," a sweeping shot shows that they're standing between two freestanding bookshelves. But at the beginning of this one, when they're supposed to be in the same place, they're able to break through a wall into a separate room.
Plot hole: Davros said that the reality bomb would destroy all parallel universes. He fails in the Doctor's universe, but the Doctor said in an earlier episode that every decision creates a new parallel universe, like if Donna had walked out of the TARDIS with Jack, Rose, and the Doctor. She wouldn't have imbued herself with Time Lordness, so Davros would have succeeded. This means that all the universes, including the Doctor's one, should have been destroyed, because if the Reality bomb only succeeds in one universe, it would destroy all the others as well.
Audio problem: Just after the Doctor makes his appearance and Lynda tells him he's "in the house", she appears to continue talking to him but we never hear what she says; instead the scene cuts to the other two housemates complaining about the Doctor's sudden appearance. (00:01:40)Chris in Texas
Continuity mistake: When Yvonne Hartman is showing the Doctor through Torchwood after leaving the TARDIS, she goes to push a door open into the main building with one hand, but when the camera cuts to them entering the building she pushes them open with two hands. (00:20:10)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, the police are chasing the bus and they give the numberplate as "Whiskey nine four seven Golf Hotel Mike." That is W947 GHM, but later on when the flying bus comes through the rift in time/space, the numberplate is completely different. This is because whilst filming in Dubai, the original bus broke down and had to be replaced.daleksam
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor is shot and killed while trying to regenerate on the beach, he falls with both legs extended. When River, Amy and Rory run up to him his left leg is bent. The camera cuts away again, and when it cuts back to show the Doctor's body one more time both legs are straight again. In addition, his left arm changes position between shots, between stretched out pointing away from his body on close-ups to bent with his hand resting on his thigh in wider shots. (00:08:15)
Revealing mistake: While the Doctor and Clara visit the market in Akhaten, the rubber mask of one of the aliens they encounter is revealed, as the eyes of the actor wearing it are very much visible. (00:08:10)Epigenis
Audio problem: While Billy Shipton is showing Sally Sparrow the TARDIS (in the room where he keeps the abandoned cars), just after he says, '[You] can't even get in it', he rattles the TARDIS' handle to demonstrate. Watch carefully: When he shakes the handle we hear a rattling noise as if the door is shaking, but in fact the door stays rock solid. (00:19:35)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor gets the rocket to work by tinkering with the boost reversal circuit, he picks it up with his left hand, sonics it, and then transfers it to his right hand, all in a shot where he has his back to the camera. In the next shot, facing him, he's holding it in his left hand as he pulls something off the device. The shot after that, facing Professor Yana again, the circuit is back in his right hand. (00:19:55)
Character mistake: When the Futurekind spy starts sabotaging the silo's systems, and Chantho notes that they're losing power, she says, "We're losing power-tho!" - forgetting the "Chan-" prefix that she starts anything she says with, in order to not swear by her species' standards. (00:27:00)
Continuity mistake: While the Doctor, et al. are in the pyramid with the Monks, when the Monk tells the Secretary General that if his consent isn't pure it will kill him Xiaolian is standing right behind him, which can be seen in shots facing the Secretary General and shots facing the Monk, but in the one shot of the Secretary General as he's being vaporized Xiaolian has vanished yet Xiaolian is still standing in the same spot in the shot facing the Monk. (00:26:10)Super Grover
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, Missy is using a knife to sharpen a stick to a point. Later in the scene, when she says to Clara that if they go rescue the Doctor, everything the Daleks can throw at them is between them and him, she lists only the stick among their assets. The knife is never seen or mentioned again after Missy was done with it.
Factual error: The Viking village has tubs of electric eels in the boathouse, which prove instrumental to the plot as the power source of the makeshift electromagnet used to relieve several of the attacking aliens of their helmets. The problem is that the Vikings live somewhere in northern Europe, and this episode takes place in the 800s. Electric eels are native to the Amazon and Orinoco rivers of South America, which at this point in history no one in Europe knew existed.
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor is knocked unconscious, Clara uses the psychic circuitry to pilot the TARDIS to what turns out to be a moment in the Doctor's past, in the barn first seen in "The Day of the Doctor." The loft in the barn where the young First Doctor is sleeping in bed, however, was not present in the previous episode.
Plot hole: The Doctor leaves Martha a recording with instructions for her for when he's human. However, the flashbacks to the incident that led to him using the Chameleon Arch don't leave enough - or any - time for him to have made the recording.
Continuity mistake: When Bill walks out of the TARDIS, her teddy bear is lying in the box she's carrying with its head to Bill's right. In the next shot from behind Bill as she sets the box down on the ground, the teddy is suddenly lying the opposite way. (00:06:45)Super Grover
Audio problem: When the Doctor and Martha are watching Shakespeare in the Globe, Martha says "He's a bit different to his portraits". After she says this on the left of the screen the Doctor's head comes into shot and you can clearly see by his facial expressions he is saying something to Martha, yet no sound is heard. (00:06:10)Professor Lazarus
Continuity mistake: After the Master changes all humans into copies of himself and Wilf says, "What have you done, you monster!?", it goes to all the different Masters in the room saying, "Are you talking to me?" The Abigail Naismith-Master is shorter than the Joshua Naismith-Master. In another shot they are the same height. The Abigail Naismith-Master is wearing very high heels and should be taller than the other Masters. (00:56:00 - 00:56:50)
Continuity mistake: When Yvonne is taking the Doctor and Jackie to the Sphere Room, there is a sign opposite the door that has the words "Torchwood Institute". In the next shot where you can see the corridor from inside the Sphere Chamber, the sign has disappeared. It reappears again when Rose is going into the Sphere Chamber, but this time it has directions to the Reception, Canteen and Lever Room as well as "Torchwood Institute". It also disappears again when you see the corridor from inside the Chamber. (00:23:30 - 00:31:45)
Continuity mistake: In the scene toward the end where the Doctor is shot by the Dalek, when the camera is shooting from Rose's point of view, the Doctor is gasping and struggling for breath. However when the camera shows the Doctor from behind, he's lying completely still in Rose's arms. The camera cuts back to Rose's POV and he's struggling again, with no time in between for the change in his movements.
Plot hole: In this episode, the Doctor is said to have died during the events of "The Runaway Bride." As a result, he was not able to prevent the spaceship Titanic from crashing in London. It is later shown that southeast England was obliterated by the explosion. This falls far short of what the Doctor mentioned in "Voyage of the Damned", wherein he frantically repeated that if the Titanic crashed, the drive's explosion would wipe out all 6 billion people on the Earth (that's the entire human race at the time of the show's airing).
Other mistake: Martha falls into the bog and Hath Peck rushes down to help her. She calls out "Help me, Peck!" but the subtitles read "Help me peg!" This is just one of many errors in this series' subtitles, which seem to have been added by listening to the dialogue without reference to the script. (00:26:30)paolog
Continuity mistake: When Ursula is filming Elton outside his old house, the digital camera produces a distorted picture and has four white lines in the corners. But, after Elton's flashback, Ursula is still filming but the picture is straight and the lines are gone. (00:04:40)
Revealing mistake: Whenever you glimpse the inside of the TARDIS from outside, a frontal view reveals a picture of what's inside which has been placed at the back of the box. Sadly, it isn't on the sides. This means that, from the right angle, you can easily tell that it is just a box.
Factual error: When the Immortality Gate is activated, there's a wide shot of Earth as the wave from the device goes around the planet. In another instance of a mistake made by a few previous Christmas specials, despite this taking place on Christmas Day, the North Pole is looking very, very sunny for what's supposed to be the dead of winter. (00:54:50)
Factual error: Near the end of the episode, the full Moon is shown in the daytime sky, well above the horizon. This is impossible, as any celestial body lit by the Sun has its full phase only when it is directly opposite the Sun; thus, a full Moon rises at sunset and sits high in the sky only during the night. For the Moon to be in the sky during the day as shown, it would have to be visibly of a phase other than full.DavidK93
Other mistake: When the Doctor finds the crystal and blows on it, it glows brightly. While it lights up his face as it should, the backs of his hands light up, apparently from the crystal. This is not possible, as the light comes from in front when the crystal is inside the Doctor's hands. (00:14:55)Movie Nut
Factual error: The rank insignia of the Soviet officers is completely inaccurate. The captain wears the epaulets of a captain first rank (captain) and the sleeve insignia of a captain second rank (commander). Lieutenant Stephashin wears the epaulets of a senior lieutenant and the sleeve insignia of a captain third rank (lieutenant-commander). The third officer wears the epaulets of a captain second rank and the sleeve insignia of a captain third rank.Necrothesp
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, when the Doctor takes Amy to planet One, he holds out his hand for Amy to take hold of when they're about to leave the TARDIS. When you see her from the back, Amy lifts her hand wearing her red fingerless gloves. But when it switches shot and faces Amy from the front, she takes the Doctor's hand wearing no gloves. When she steps out of the TARDIS, her gloves are on again.
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor stands between Restac and his fleeing companions, using his sonic screwdriver to disable the Silurians' weapons, as the camera angle changes, the Doctor's grip on the screwdriver switches back and forth between pointing it at the lizards and holding it straight up and down, á la the Neuralizer from Men in Black.
Continuity mistake: As Lucy goes down the hall, she opens door 214, then 215. As she comes to the next door on the right, she opens 214 again, rather than it being 216. This is particularly noticeable because the third room she enters is "her" room, containing her greatest fear - and the first room she went into numbered 214 had a completely different fear.Movie Nut
Continuity mistake: When River shows Amy and the Doctor the video of the Angel, next to the Doctor on the ceiling is a bar with two cloth handles, one on each end. The Doctor accidentally rips off the handle closest to him and the viewscreen. A minute later when Amy is alone and we are looking at the Angel video, this handle is back up. It's gone again in subsequent shots.
Factual error: Clara determines the location of the enemy's base of operations: floor 65 of The Shard. However, there are multiple issues with this conclusion. Firstly, floor 65 is a residential property, not an office location; offices in The Shard occupy floors 2 through 28. Secondly, the view of 30 St Mary Axe from Miss Kizlet's window puts the office below 180m, the height of the latter building. This would mean the office must be below floor 50. Finally, when the Doctor rides his motorcycle up the side of the building, 30 St Mary Axe is again seen, this time significantly below his location, and on the wrong side of The Shard. Not only then does the office's height change, but also which side of The Shard it is on. (00:34:00 - 00:37:20)sonicdrewdriver
Continuity mistake: When Martha is searching for how the Daleks changed the design of the Empire State Building, she is examining the plans for the top of the tower. In the first shot where the new plans are visible, the upper right shows a more detailed picture of a plate of Dalekanium. Seconds later, when we can see the new plans again, it's the same side view but the enlarged picture of the plate with the Dalek bumps is gone. These are still the same new plans (the old plans are on her right) and there was no time or reason for Martha to take another page. (00:24:40)
Character mistake: Idris (the human form of the TARDIS) berates the Doctor because the doors of the TARDIS open inwards, pointing to the notice on the left hand door which says 'pull to open'. Whilst it is true that police boxes did open outwards, the notice is actually referring to the telephone in the small recess behind the notice. The public are instructed to 'pull to open' the small door to access the phone. Consequently, the small door does open correctly, as in the notice.Jeff Walker
Continuity mistake: When Clara asks Kate why her two assistants have entered the Black Archive, she rests her left arm on the sill of the window of the containment unit she's inside. In the next shot, when Clara slowly turns to look at "Kate", who's just revealed she's actually a Zygon imposter, her left arm is by her side. (00:39:55)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Doctors figure out how to disintegrate the door, when Eleven takes out his screwdriver to check the calculation and announces that it's complete, Ten's right hand, with which he's holding his screwdriver, goes from raised at roughly shoulder height to much lower between shots. (00:44:50)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When Osgood discovers Kate trussed up where the Zygons left her, when she pulls off the sheet covering her Kate's head is completely covered by a membrane-like mass. Moments later, after Osgood has begun working at Kate's hands to get her free, in the next shot with Kate's head in it her face is now uncovered. (00:46:15)skater49th
Continuity mistake: In the scene at the end in the Undergallery, when Ten walks up to the Gallifrey Falls painting, wondering what its actual title is, the door of his TARDIS, visible behind him, is open. In the next shot with the TARDISes visible, the door is shut. (01:10:55)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor begins to explain to Gregor that the TARDIS doesn't actually have a self-destruct, he places his right hand on Gregor's shoulder. In the next shot, his right arm is by his side and he isn't touching Gregor. (00:26:00)skater49th
Continuity mistake: Before they enter the damaged TARDIS, when the Doctor watches Gregor put down Bram, and then asks Tricky why he's using a blast suit and respirator despite being an android, his hands are clasped in front of his chest in close-ups, but down below his waist in wide shots. (00:09:15)
Continuity mistake: While Emma is explaining to Clara what an empathic psychic is, the Doctor grabs a bottle of milk from the table and takes a swig out of it, holding the bottle in his right hand, before jumping into the conversation to state that empaths are both extremely compassionate and extremely lonely. While he's saying this, his left hand goes from gesturing in a close-up to holding the milk bottle in a wide shot. (00:06:25)skater49th
Continuity mistake: While the Doctor and Clara are talking and realise that she now possesses extensive computing knowledge, in shots facing the Doctor he has his hands raised in various gestures or by his mouth, but his hands aren't visible in shots facing Clara. (00:22:15)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When Clara asks the "girl" coming down the stairs if she's a friend of Angie's, and the "girl" replies in a monotone, in the shot facing Clara the girl-robot is seen nearly at the bottom of the steps, but in the next shot facing the "girl", she's suddenly higher up the stairs. (00:12:05)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When Clara is asleep in bed after the Doctor prevented her from being downloaded by the people in the Shard, he sets up a vase of flowers, a glass of water and a plate of Jammie Dodgers on her bedside table. The positions of the glass, the cookies on the plate, and the torn-open package the cookies came out of is seen when the Doctor leaves a half-eaten cookie on the plate in a close-up. When Clara wakes up, however, the cookies on the plate, the packaging and the glass have all changed positions. (00:18:20)skater49th
Revealing mistake: When an Atraxi ship appears over the village green, there's a shot where the Doctor, Amy and Rory turn to look at it, and they're standing in bright sunshine with their shadows visible - despite the fact that the Atraxi have surrounded the planet with a forcefield that dims sunlight, so those shadows shouldn't be possible. (00:36:05)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After Prisoner Zero is taken away, when Rory asks the Doctor if everything is back to normal, the Doctor is holding Rory's phone in his right hand while dialing a number. In the shot immediately after, focusing on Rory, where the Doctor walks by him and lightly smacks him on the shoulder, the phone is suddenly in the Doctor's left hand. (00:50:20)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor steps through the hologram of his past selves and introduces himself to the Atraxi, in a wide shot, there's a red jacket lying on the ground to the left of Rory. In a close-up of Amy and Rory immediately following, the jacket has suddenly leaped into Rory's arms, to join the other clothes he's holding. When the Atraxi flies away, the red jacket is back on the ground again. (00:53:55)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor spits out some yogurt that Amelia gave him and wipes off his mouth, there's still some yogurt on his face and chin. Immediately afterwards, he involuntarily jerks around a bit due to regeneration sickness, and the yogurt is gone. (00:06:35)skater49th
Continuity mistake: At one point while the Doctor is explaining to Amelia what the crack is, there's a shot where he has his hands on the wall examining the crack as he leans over Amelia's desk, then the camera cuts to a shot of Amelia where the Doctor is standing upright with his hands not touching the wall at all. (00:10:15)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When Wilf takes out his revolver and offers it to the Doctor, he's holding it with the grip pointed toward the Doctor. In a wide shot shortly afterwards, Wilf's arm is moving to hold the gun out again, this time with the barrel closer to the Doctor. In the next shot, a close-up of Wilf, the gun is back to its first orientation. (00:25:20)
Continuity mistake: When Shaun and Sylvia run out of the Nobles' house to look as Gallifrey begins to phase in and out next to Earth, Shaun's right hand, which he had on Sylvia's shoulder, changes position between shots just before he runs off looking for Donna. (00:40:40)
Continuity mistake: When Donna, on the phone with Wilf, is surrounded by Master duplicates in the alley behind her house, she has her phone to her ear, but there's a shot where she looks behind her to see two Masters, one of whom is wearing a bowtie, entering the alley, her phone is missing, only to be back by her ear in the next shot. (00:07:05)
Continuity mistake: After Lucy gets the bottle from the guard, as she explains to the Master that her family had contacts to create something to counteract the "potions of life" used to resurrect him, she starts to take the cork out of the bottle with her left hand, the camera cuts away to the Master and when it cuts back to Lucy, her left hand is on the bottom of the bottle, before she starts to take the cork out again. (00:15:00)
Continuity mistake: In the restaurant basement, while the Doctor and Clara are looking around while speculating on why the clockwork droids are harvesting organs, Clara moves a chain out of her way with her left hand before releasing it, only to be holding the chain again in the next shot. (00:44:10)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Captain's arrival at the South Pole is first shown, walking up while Twelve is explaining to One that the frozen snow means something is very wrong with time and asking if either of them is a doctor, to which Twelve responds, "You trying to be funny?", the two Doctors are standing right next to each other. When the Captain's arrival is shown from his perspective, however, the Doctors are standing much further apart when Twelve says the line. (00:09:00)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor realises that the Vashta Nerada infesting the Library came from the books, he rubs the back of his head with his right hand, with his left hand in his trouser pocket. When Other Dave speaks, and the Doctor turns to him and discovers he's been eaten, he takes his left hand from the back of his head, with his right hand in his pocket. In the shot after that, his left hand is back in his pocket with his right hand in position as if he'd removed it from the back of his head. (00:18:30)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Nardole are being held by the Picts in a circle of weapons being pointed at them, when Kar's brother points a knife at the Doctor and warns him not to speak until she gets back, his arm is almost fully extended in shots from above and facing the Doctor, but much more bent in shots facing him. (00:12:40)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor tints Anita's visor, as he explains to River that he did it to try and trick the Vashta Nerada into thinking they're already inside Anita's suit, the position of his right hand, holding the sonic screwdriver, and the fingers of that hand change position between shots. (00:10:25)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor tells Bill that nothing gets through the TARDIS doors, when she responds that they're made of wood and have windows, the Doctor's left hand changes position between shots from being apparently by his side to suddenly resting on the door. (00:28:40)skater49th
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor and Bill are tied up in the tent of explosives, when Lord Sutcliffe pulls out his pocket watch to check the time and notes that the elephant is being brought onto the ice, in a shot facing the Doctor and Bill the watch chain is taut. When the shot cuts to look at Sutcliffe and his henchman, the chain is slack. (00:33:40)
Continuity mistake: At the lake, when the Doctor stands in front of Agatha and tells the Vespiform, "You're not meant to be like this! You've got the wrong template in your mind!", in the close-up shot he has his left arm raised, but in the Vespiform's POV shot he has his right arm raised. (00:39:45)
Continuity mistake: When Robina Redmond is announced, and Lady Eddison says, "She's the absolute hit of the social scene - a must," in the first shot, Lady Eddison is standing close enough to her wheelchair-bound husband to cast a shadow on him. In the second shot, the distance between them has suddenly increased. (00:05:10)
Continuity mistake: After questioning the houseguests, the Doctor and Agatha are talking. She uses the phrase "little grey cells", and the Doctor responds, "Oh, yes, little grey cells. Good old Poirot." When he does this, he's holding a saucer in his left hand and rests a teacup he's holding in his right hand atop it, as he turns toward the chair that the suspects were sitting in. In the next shot, as he walks over and sits in the chair, he is suddenly holding the teacup and saucer in his right hand, with his left hand by his side. (00:13:55)
Continuity mistake: After explaining that he's laced the soup with pepper, the Doctor, when he says, "Anyone got the shivers?", turns his head from looking to his left so he's looking in front of him. In the following wide shot, his head is turned to his left again. (00:26:10)
Continuity mistake: When Donna suggests that she distract the next guard using her "womanly wiles", she flips her hair behind her shoulder. In the next shot, when the Doctor tells her to save her wiles for later, the hair has spontaneously moved to its former position. (00:19:35)skater49th
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor activates the teleport, Donna is onboard the Sontaran ship, holding a cell phone in her left hand. When she arrives in the basement of the ATMOS factory, she's holding the rubber mallet in her left hand, and her right hand is empty, with the phone nowhere to be seen. (00:32:40)
Continuity mistake: When Donna is sneaking around the Sontaran ship, she's carrying Martha's old phone, which she's using to stay in touch with the Doctor, and the rubber mallet from the TARDIS. There are times when one of the two objects, the phone more often, is missing from her hands with no explanation.
Continuity mistake: When Private Harris orders the two hypnotized workers in the basement of the ATMOS factory to let him through the door they're guarding, he's holding a torch in his left hand, and when shown from behind has that hand down by his side. In the Sontarans' video feed, which also shows him from behind, his left hand is on his assault rifle. (00:11:15)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor gets embarrassed as Donna lightly mocks him for not realizing that when she said she wanted to go home, she only meant for a brief visit, he rubs his chin with his left hand. When Ross Jenkins interrupts by saying, "Ready when you are, sir," the Doctor is now rubbing his chin with his right hand. In the shot after that, it's back to his left hand. (00:20:40)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor opens a shipping container full of Ood and he and Donna stand in the entryway, he only opens the right-hand door, leaving the other one shut. In a shot from behind the two of them, facing into the crate, the left-hand door is now wide open. (00:17:15)
Continuity mistake: When Ood Sigma steps in front of Mr. Halpen while he's holding the Doctor and Donna at gunpoint and suggests he have a drink, the glass Sigma holds up is empty, despite the fact that he was heard pouring Halpen's tonic into it just moments before. In a shot later in the scene, the glass is shown full. (00:37:30)
Continuity mistake: When the Sybilline priestesses kneel after the High Priestess speaks, in a shot from the front, Donna, sitting on the altar, has her hands in front of her - she's using her left hand to take the rope off her right wrist. In the next shot, from behind, her hands are at her sides. In addition, the rope still on her right wrist disappears. (00:27:05)
Revealing mistake: When the Doctor and Donna are walking through the underground tunnels towards Mount Vesuvius, tunnels that can be presumed to be fairly warm due to their connections to volcanic activity, their breath is visible - something that only happens in cold temperatures. (00:31:20)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Donna leave as Caecilius, Metella, Evelina and Quintus stand and watch the destruction of Pompeii, the TARDIS changes orientation between shots - in both of them, one from in front of the family and one from behind, the TARDIS' door, with the sign, is visible. (00:45:10)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Donna are talking to Caecilius, when they introduce themselves as "Spartacus" and Caecilius makes several guesses as to their relationship, wondering if they're married or siblings, in shots facing them, the Doctor and Donna are standing fairly close together. In shots facing Caecilius, however, the Doctor and Donna are standing much further apart. (00:11:05)
Continuity mistake: After Lucius' arrival, when the Doctor escorts Donna towards the TARDIS, telling her they have to go, which she doesn't agree with, between shots his hands change position between having his right hand on her back, or having both his hands on her shoulders. (00:13:55)
Continuity mistake: When Ms. Foster's computer switches back on because it's picking up a signal from the Adiposian First Family, in a shot facing him, the Doctor reaches towards it with his left hand. In the next shot, from behind him and Donna, his left hand is resting on the wall next to the computer, before he reaches for it again. (00:39:25)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor attempts to persuade Matron Cofelia, who is hanging in a levitation beam, to come over to the roof of the Adipose Industries building, Donna's hands, resting on the parapet on the edge of the roof, change position between shots. (00:41:15)
Continuity mistake: When Donna starts fiddling with the Adipose necklace she stole, this causes an Adipose to be created out of Stacey's fat cells. When this begins, Stacey is in the upstairs bathroom applying lip gloss, and she's holding the applicator wand when her stomach begins to move. When she pulls up her shirt to look at her distending stomach in the mirror, the lip gloss wand is gone. (00:07:15)
Other mistake: When the Doctor and Donna get onto the roof, after he sonics the door shut behind them, as they run for the crane for the window washing cart he puts his sonic screwdriver in his mouth, holding it between his teeth, and pulls something out of his pocket. It looks like he might be carrying Miss Foster's sonic pen - except that at this point in the episode, it hasn't yet been revealed. (00:24:20)
Revealing mistake: When the Doctor and Donna are attempting to smash open a window while stuck in the window-washing cart, there is a shot of them from above just before Foster cuts the cable in which banging sounds are heard and the cart is shaking, but if you look closely at them they aren't actually touching the window at all. (00:26:10)
Continuity mistake: When Astrid tells Mr. Copper that she's going down to Deck 31 to find the Doctor, she's using her left hand to fit a teleport bracelet on her right wrist. In a shot facing Mr. Copper immediately after as he wishes her good luck, her left arm is suddenly by her side. (00:50:55)
Revealing mistake: Max Capricorn is a cyborg, with his head being the only remaining part of his original body, wired up to a mobile life support system. If you look closely during his scenes, whenever he turns his head, the costume the actor is wearing to hide his body becomes apparent, as the wires and cables below Capricorn's head also move slightly.
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor interrupts Mr. Copper's incredibly inaccurate description of Earth society to ask him where he got his information from, in a shot facing Mr. Copper, the Doctor's raised hand has only one finger extended. In the next shot, facing the Doctor, he has two fingers extended, with the other two only loosely curled. Shortly after this, the Doctor scratches his temple with that same hand, only for it to be absent in the next shot facing Mr. Copper. (00:11:40)
Continuity mistake: After Rickston asks the Doctor how "Mr. and Mrs. Fatso" (Morvin and Foon) are going to get through a narrow gap, when the Doctor responds that they're going to make the gap bigger, he passes Rickston a piece of metal. The steel bar's appearance changes between shots. (00:27:45)
Continuity mistake: After Morvin falls to his death in the engine, when Foon tearfully demands to the Doctor that he bring him back, and he tells her he can't, Foon's hand is gripping the railing in one shot with the two of them, but missing in a shot facing the Doctor as he says, "I know. I'm sorry." (00:37:45)
Continuity mistake: When the Master says that the Doctor sealed the rift at the Medusa Cascade single-handed, in a wide shot, his right hand is resting on the edge of the table he's sitting on. The scene cuts to a close-up, and then back to a wide shot, where the Master's right hand is now in his lap. (00:10:30)
Continuity mistake: When Martha explains to Tom and Professor Docherty about how the Master could only use the TARDIS to travel between the present day and the end of the universe, and how he must have gone to Utopia, in a wide shot her right hand is resting on the table, but in a shot from above looking down on the captured Toclafane her right arm is by her side. (00:20:15)
Continuity mistake: When Martha starts to phone her family, after the Doctor warns her not to tell them anything, as she snaps in response, "I'll do what I like!", in the first shot she's holding her phone away from her body, but in the second shot it's jumped to her ear. (00:14:25)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor fixes Jack's vortex manipulator so they can escape the silo, Martha and Jack are holding the lab door mostly closed against a horde of Futurekind. In the shot where the trio time-travels away, the Futurekind, some of whom had stuck their hands through the gap in the door, are missing. (00:00:40)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor talks about how the Master was always sort of hypnotic, in a wide shot, Martha is sitting on the end of her couch, with her hands loosely folded, with her left hand on top. In the shot of her where she says she was going to vote for Harold Saxon, her right hand is on top. In the next wide shot, her hands have reverted to their original position. (00:12:05)
Continuity mistake: When Sally and Larry are hugging each other as the TARDIS dematerializes around them, as the cellar with the Angels becomes more visible, Sally lets go of the console with both hands and clasps them together. A couple of shots later, her left hand is still touching the console. (00:37:55)
Continuity mistake: When Sally enters the DVD store looking for Larry, she encounters the store's owner, Banto, who is sitting behind the front counter watching a movie. He holds up his finger to indicate her to wait briefly because of the point in the movie he's at. In shots facing him, his hand is quite close to his mouth and chin, but in a shot facing Sally, his hand is considerably further away from his head. (00:13:10)
Continuity mistake: After Sally leaves the garage, Billy turns his head and sees the Weeping Angels around the TARDIS, and his facial expression changes from a smile to a confused frown. In a close-up of Billy after the shot of the Angels, his head is turning and his expression changes a second time. (00:20:40)
Continuity mistake: When Sally pulls off the last piece of wallpaper to reveal the writing, "Love from the Doctor (1969)", in the first shot, the second "9" in the date is somewhat patchy, with the middle part of the number mostly gone due to the removal of the wallpaper. In a close-up of "The Doctor" just moments later, the "9" is intact, visible in the lower right corner. (00:02:15)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor comes back to the Cartwright house after imprisoning the Family, Joan walks over to the window and looks out, clasping her hands in front of her. In the next shot, when she asks the Doctor if it's done, her hands are suddenly by her sides, and she is shown clasping them again. (00:34:45)
Revealing mistake: In the penultimate scene, with Tim Latimer helping an injured Hutchinson across a muddy battlefield at night, one of the shots is flipped - in the unflipped shots, Hutchinson has his right arm slung across Tim's shoulders, but in the flipped shot, it appears to be his left arm, and the two young men have switched sides. (00:39:45)
Continuity mistake: When Martha finishes listing off the bones of the hand to Joan, in order to prove that she's a medical student from the future, in a shot facing Joan, Martha's thumb is extended. In the next shot, facing Martha, her thumb is suddenly folded back, as if she was using her hand to display the number 4. (00:12:15)
Continuity mistake: When Sister of Mine enters the school's courtyard after the battle with the scarecrows, her right hand is holding her balloon at the bottom, with the bottom of the string wrapped around her left hand. In the next shot, facing her, her right hand is at her side, with the balloon floating above her left hand. The balloon proceeds to jump between positions until Sister of Mine murders the headmaster. (00:18:00)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor says, in response to Martha asking how the Family can follow them, "Stolen technology. They've got a Time Agent's vortex manipulator," in a close-up of his face he reaches with his left hand for a control on the console, but in a following shot of his hands, they're right next to each other. (00:00:25)
Continuity mistake: When Martha and Jenny are washing the floor, just as Hutchinson and Baines come along and tell them off for laughing, one of the lace ribbons on Martha's cap moves between hanging in the back in shots facing her and draped over her shoulder in shots facing the schoolboys. (00:04:15)
Continuity mistake: When Martha initially bursts into John Smith's study after hearing that he fell down the stairs, the door is mostly closed. When she runs back to the door to knock on it after Joan Redfern tells her off for bursting into a master's study unannounced, the door is open wider. (00:06:35)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor asks Captain McDonnell how many other crewmembers there are on board, he grabs her arms. After she tells him "three", the Doctor lets go of her as Scannell explains that the ship transports cargo across the galaxy. In the next shot, facing the Doctor, he's holding McDonnell's arms again. (00:03:00)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor starts scanning Korwin, he's holding the sonic screwdriver with his thumb on the end without the light. When Ashton says that Korwin sabotaged the ship, the Doctor's grip on the screwdriver has changed to one without his thumb on the end. Shortly after, he has his thumb on the end again. (00:06:10)
Continuity mistake: After McDonnell warns the crew that the possessed Korwin killed Abi, Ashton orders Erina to hurry up with the equipment she was sent to fetch, and she mutes the com before removing several pieces of equipment from a locker, holding them with her right hand and arm. When she closes the locker door, revealing Korwin, the equipment disappears. (00:15:20)
Continuity mistake: After Lazarus switches his machine on while the Doctor and Martha are inside, when Martha asks what's happening, the Doctor, who is working on the machine, is holding several coloured wires, most prominently white and blue, in his left hand and has a white wire wrapped around his right hand. The scene cuts to Martha, and when it cuts back to the Doctor, the wire around his right hand is gone and he's only holding a white wire in his left hand. (00:29:10)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor and Martha get into Lazarus' machine, it's shown to be very cramped inside - when the Doctor crouches down to access the wiring and circuitry below a floor panel, his head is right next to the skirt of Martha's dress. However, after he tells Martha what he's doing to the capsule, when he notes that the transformed Lazarus is three times the size of his human form, the Doctor is further away from Martha. (00:29:25)
Continuity mistake: After the Doctor and Martha get out of the capsule and walk up to the human Lazarus, lying on the floor, Martha says it's kind of pitiful, turning to look at the Doctor as she does so. In the next shot, facing the Doctor, Martha's head is still turned to look at Lazarus. (00:30:10)
Continuity mistake: In the cathedral, when Lazarus says, "You're so sentimental, Doctor. Maybe you are older than you look," his blanket has jumped up to cover his left shoulder, which was previously bare. The blanket then changes position several more times. (00:34:50)
Continuity mistake: After Martha hugs her mother, when Francine asks what the occasion is and Martha responds that she's just pleased to see her, in a shot facing Francine she has her right hand on the side of Martha's head. In the next shot, facing Martha, Francine is moving her hand to the position it was in the previous shot. (00:06:15)
Continuity mistake: When Lazarus starts his speech, there is a shot of the Doctor and Martha watching. The Doctor has his arms at his sides. The scene cuts to Lazarus speaking, a shot in which the Doctor is visible from behind, unmoving. In the next shot of the Doctor, he has his arms crossed. (00:07:15)
Continuity mistake: During the reception, the newly rejuvenated Lazarus takes a tray of hors d'oeuvres from a waiter and starts eating them while talking to Lady Thaw, just as the Doctor and Martha walk up. Later in the conversation, just as Lazarus says to the Doctor that what happened inside the capsule was exactly what was supposed to, the tray vanishes. (00:11:10)
Continuity mistake: When Francine calls Tish over to ask her if she's seen Martha and the Doctor anywhere, Leo is taking a drink from a nearly-empty glass of champagne. When Leo is next seen on camera, as Francine asks Tish if Martha had ever mentioned the Doctor to her before, he's drinking from a much fuller glass of champagne. (00:16:00)
Continuity mistake: Near the end, when Martha asks the Daleks what's going on and one of them explains that they are planning to evolve to live outside their shells, the Doctor changes position between shots while he's shown listening to this, standing behind Frank and Laszlo. (00:44:30)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor, after being placed on hold while attempting to call the police, talks to Brannigan and Valerie about other people he could contact, in close-ups, Valerie has her right hand resting on the top of her seat. In a wide shot, she lowers her hand, but in the next close-up of her, it's jumped to its previous position. (00:14:20)
Continuity mistake: When Lilith runs her hand along the side of the Doctor's head to distract him so she can get some of his hair, in the wide shots her fingers are extended past his ear. In a shot facing him, however, her fingers are curled and in front of his ear. (00:34:40)
Revealing mistake: After arriving in New New York's undercity, the Doctor and Martha find a screen playing the news. The Doctor tinkers with it and gets a video of flying cars passing a picturesque view of the city. This is a clip from the last episode set on this planet, "New Earth" - the fact that in a close-up of the screen, the TARDIS can be seen parked on the cliffs as it was in that episode clinches it. (00:03:55)
Continuity mistake: After Milo and Cheen abduct Martha, they put a sleep patch on her before entering their car. In the close-up where Cheen applies the patch, it's stuck on securely and neatly, with the top and bottom of the square pointing directly at Martha's head and chest respectively. In a wide shot immediately afterwards, the patch is stuck on quite loosely and has gone askew. (00:06:35)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor puts his tie back on after returning from the morning, the collar of his shirt is noticeably askew as a result. Just moments later, when Martha enters the TARDIS for the first time, the collar is neat again, without him having done anything. (00:41:00)
Continuity mistake: When Lilith has Shakespeare under her spell and is having him write an alternate ending to his play, there is one shot of his face where his quill can be seen in the corner, perfectly still, even though the next shot shows that he's writing. (00:18:25)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor, Martha and Shakespeare are in the Globe and they talk about the theatre's architecture, there is a wooden staircase in front of the stage, which Martha and Shakespeare use to descend from the stage when the three leave. Shortly after, at the beginning of the scene where the two actors from Shakespeare's company accidentally summon a Carrionite while practicing their lines, the staircase is gone. (00:22:10)
Continuity mistake: When Martha is talking to the Doctor, who is posing as a patient, about her encounter with him in the street earlier, which he doesn't remember, she takes her stethoscope off her neck. The camera cuts to the Doctor, then back to her, and she's taking it off again. (00:04:15)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor is looking out the window while asking Martha if there's a balcony on the floor of the hospital they're on, in close-ups of him only his right hand is visible, resting on the sill between two windowpanes, and his left arm is by his side. In a wide shot from outside looking in, his left arm is stretched out with his left hand gripping the divider between two windowpanes, in a spot where it should have been visible in the preceding shot. (00:10:05)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor picks up a mug and a pencil to use as props to explain to Donna how she was pulled into the TARDIS, he is initially holding the pencil by the blunt end. The scene cuts to a shot of his face, and suddenly he's holding it by the sharpened end. (00:28:35)
Factual error: During the rooftop scene, Donna checks her watch and says that it's half past three, or 3:30 PM. In London on December 24, that's roughly 45 minutes before sunset. However, not only is the angle of sunlight during this scene much higher than it should be for the date and time, the Sun proceeds to remain up for some time longer, including during the wedding reception and when the Doctor discovers the tunnel underneath H.C. Clements leads to below the Thames Barrier, even though it really ought to have set by then.
Continuity mistake: When Rose is hanging onto the lever and beginning to lose her grip, in close-ups of her face her body is facing the other wall of the room, perpendicular to the floor. In shots showing her and her hands on the lever, her body and head are facing the floor. (00:35:55)
Continuity mistake: After Pete tells the Doctor that Mickey went ahead because he wanted to find Rose, the Doctor asks him if he knows that Rose is his daughter from a parallel universe. The problem is that in Pete's last scene in "The Age of Steel", the Doctor saw Rose call Pete "Dad", leading to Pete departing in a hurry. (00:15:05)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor takes a swipe out of a jar of jam in Trish's kitchen and sticks his finger in his mouth, he only has his index finger in his mouth. The scene cuts to Rose giving him a "WTF" look, and when it cuts back to the Doctor he suddenly has two fingers in his mouth. (00:21:15)
Continuity mistake: When Rose grabs the drawing of the Doctor and the TARDIS from Chloe, the upper right corner is bent over rather sharply. In the close-up of the picture as Rose tells the Doctor she'll find a way to get him out of there, the paper is now only slightly wrinkled. (00:30:15)
Continuity mistake: When the Isolus leaves Chloe, in the shot facing Chloe where it says goodbye, Chloe's hand is raised to the wall, where the two were drawing a picture of the Earth. In the wide shot where the Isolus leaves Chloe's mouth, her arm is lowered. In the next close-up of Chloe, when she says "Mum?", her arm is raised again. (00:36:05)
Continuity mistake: In shots of the base's Ood habitation area from above, the Ood are shown in four rows from left to right, with the Ood in the third row standing with their backs against the room's middle partition and the other rows sitting on benches. However, in a shot from inside the lower area when the Doctor and Rose first go to Ood habitation, the third row is shown sitting as well. Not until later in the episode, when Danny is ordering the Ood to remain in the room, is the third row shown standing again. (00:25:15)
Continuity mistake: When the underground cavern is first shown, the descent pod is at the bottom of a pile of rubble up against the wall at the bottom of the drilled shaft. However, in the shot of the cavern shown when Ida says "My god, that's beautiful," the pod and pile of rubble is further away from the wall. (00:37:00)
Continuity mistake: For most of the scene where he's probing Reinette's mind to find out what the clockwork droids want with her, placing his hands on her temples, the Doctor's left hand is positioned with two fingers on either side of her ear. When he realises that she's seeing some of his memories, his ring finger has jumped to being in front of her ear, without him taking his hands from her head. (00:20:50)
Continuity mistake: When the Doctor, Bill, Nardole, et al. first see the pyramid their long shadows are cast directly in front of them, but when the Doctor decides to "bring it" and crosses the barrier, their long shadows are cast directly to their right. Then it keeps changing in the following shots when the Doctor approaches the pyramid. (00:10:45)Super Grover
