Continuity mistake: When Joey is talking to the Mugger in the hospital room, every time they show her sitting down in her chair or getting up from it the chair looks like it is quite far from the bed, down past the foot of the bed, about 10 feet or so from the guy. But all the other shots she appears to be sitting much closer, only a few feet away from his face.
00:31:35 - 00:38:05
Continuity mistake: In "The Te Of Pacey", Pacey's birthday takes place in winter - it is snowing and everyone is wearing heavy clothes. The other episode featuring his birthday, season 2's "Crossroads", takes place in summer (everyone is wearing shorts and light shirts).
Continuity mistake: When Joey finds Dawson at Pacey's Pier Party, it is raining heavily. Both Dawson and Joey get soaked and their hair is very wet as they reunite and kiss. At this point, it suddenly stops raining and does not rain again the rest of the time at the pier. But later, when Jen and Abby are talking behind them, both times Dawson and Joey are shown from the rear their hair is noticeably dry, wavy and styled. Later, when Dawson and Joey are talking again before she goes home, their hair is once again very wet and combed flat against their heads. Also, neither Jen or Abby's hair appeared wet at all during the party.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey is at Andie's house waiting for their date, he picks up a family photo of the entire McPhee family. There is a close-up of this photo, and you can see all family members including Andie's dead brother, Tim, and her father. In addition to the Father in the photo not being actor David Dukes, there is a completely different person in the photo representing Tim, the dead brother, than the actor who portrayed him in Andie's delusions later in the season. The person in the photo is sandy blond haired, and the actor who later portrayed him in the show was a different person with very dark hair.
Continuity mistake: During this episode, Jack injures his left shoulder playing football and has to wear a sling the entire time. Every single time Jack is shown, he is wearing a blue sling on his left arm, with the supporting strap across his right shoulder (to provide diagonal support), except once. During the party scene when Jack is talking to Dawson - the blue sling is suddenly over his right arm, with the supporting strap across his left shoulder. This scene was actually shot with the sling on the correct arm, but was "flipped" to make it fit with the direction of the next scene to follow.
00:29:45 - 00:33:40
Continuity mistake: When Pacey drives Joey and Dawson to the market to get party supplies, they leave in broad daylight. It can't be more than a few minutes down the road, being such a small town. Yet as they drive there, the sun is suddenly going down, and when they arrive at the store it's dark and night time. It couldn't have gone from broad daylight to dark night time in that short period of time. It appears to be a very long drive, but it's just the local market.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Dawson are in the rowboat after their dinner date, they are kissing and talking. Just before Joey says, "OK, that's enough, Jumbo," there is a shot of them from the rear and Joey has her left hand up around the back of Dawson's neck, scrunching his hair. The very next shot shows them from the front again, and suddenly both of Joey's hands are down nowhere near Dawson's neck. The transition was too fast for her to have moved her hand.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey is at Andie's house waiting for their date, he picks up a family photo of the entire McPhee family. There is a close-up of this photo, and you can see all family members including Andie's dead brother, Tim, and her father. Look closely at the man representing her father in the photo. It is not David Dukes, the actor who later plays her father. Apparently this scene was shot/photo made before David Dukes was available.
Continuity mistake: After Dawson and Eve check his locker to see if the PSAT test was returned, they then start talking in the hallway next to his locker. Just as Eve says "Tell me who you think it is", there is a shot of her from the rear as she turns around to face Dawson with her arms crossed in front of her, and down by her sides. The next shot of Eve is from the front, as she says "Whoever you were just thinking of"; and suddenly her arms are at an angle away from her sides with her hands on her hips. Then the next shot of Eve is from the rear, and again her arms are straight and back down close to her sides as she says "It is". Then the next shot of Eve, again from the front shows her arms back out at an angle again with her hands on her hips as she says "Simple and obvious". There was no time for her to have moved her arms and hands during this scene, the transition was too fast. Apparently the shots of Eve from the front, and from the rear during this scene were filmed at two different times.
Continuity mistake: When Joey is talking to Eddie in her dorm room, she is facing him with her hands resting firmly on his shoulders. In one close-up of Joey, her hair is hanging in front of her right ear. In the next shot of her, the hair on her right side is suddenly tucked behind her ear. Her hands haven't moved, and no-one touched her hair.
Continuity mistake: When Joey is talking to Pacey at the boat party, she turns to face him. At this point, her hair is behind her shoulder on the left but the wind blows it in front of her right shoulder. Her hair is in front of her right shoulder during this entire shot. But in the next shot, she is suddenly facing Pacey square on to the camera, and her hair is now back behind both shoulders. The transition is almost instantaneous, so it isn't realistic that her hair would suddenly move from in front of her right shoulder to behind it that quickly without her touching it.
Continuity mistake: When Jen walks into the Video Store, she is wearing a black top, red skirt and a black leather jacket that is completely open and unbuttoned. As she talks to Dawson, who is behind the counter, she says, "I'm working on a project with Pacey in a 'human growth and development' thing - is he here?" She is standing up, but leaning slightly forward against the counter and her coat is still widely open. But the next shot of Jen, as she says, "But he told me that he was working today," the black leather jacket is suddenly closed together as if buttoned, and she is leaning foward more on the counter. Then, after Dawson walks over to the movie rack and Jen follows him, her jacket is again hanging completely open and unbuttoned.
Continuity mistake: At the end, Pacey carries Joey upstairs and lays her on his bed because she is drunk. In one shot of Joey, her hands are up by her face but the right shoulder of her sweater is slipped off her shoulder, revealing the strap of her shirt underneath. The next shot of Joey, her left hand is still up and her right hand is down, but the right shoulder of her sweater is back up in place. It was too fast for her to fix the sweater herself, and her left hand hasn't moved.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the episode when Audrey goes into the dorm bathroom to empty the whiskey bottle, she accidently drops it on the bathroom floor. You can see the bottle smash, with the large label lying flat on the floor and the rest of the bottle (also with a smaller red label) sliding a little to the right. But later when Joey comes in and looks over at the broken bottle on the bathroom floor, it suddenly looks different. Most of the bottle is with the second red label part, and the first part with the larger label lying flat isn't anywhere near it.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey is driving Joey back from Boston in the morning, they start talking about what happened. Every shot of Pacey or Joey from either side shows a heavily wooded forest (mostly pine trees it looks like) in the background. But when Pacey abruptly veers off the road to the right and parks; suddenly the landscape on Joey's side is barren with a huge lake, and no forest or trees except a few they just passed on the curve. The pine tree footage was probably added in to make Wilmington, NC look more like Capeside, Mass.
Continuity mistake: While Joey is talking to the Mugger in the hospital room, her hair frequently changes very suddenly between shots from being tucked behind her ears to hanging in front of them. This goes on during the entire scene; and towards the end as the Mugger dies her hair goes from being in front of her ears, to next shot of her hair being tucked behind her ears but not crying, to next shot of her hair being behind ears, pushed back off the forehead and she is openly crying with tears streaming down from both eyes. The changes are too sudden to be realistic, and at this point her hands are in her lap wrapped in her jacket.
00:34:25 - 00:37:30
Continuity mistake: When Joey accesses her email address book to send an email to Dawson, she inadvertently hits the address above his, sending her email to the entire Worthington campus. Dawson's email address in Joey's address book is [email protected] Dawson does not go to Worthington and would not have a campus email account.
Continuity mistake: When Jack and Andie are using the computer with Ben's Instant Message on the screen, there is a close-up of the computer screen as they wait for Ben's photo to download. Just to the right of the photo is the entire IM, which shows all 3 lines of dialogue between Ben and Jack. The last line says, "So. What do you think?" But after the photo is finished, there is a sudden 'beep' from the computer signalling another incoming IM message, which Jack then reads out loud as if it is a new message. But what he reads is, "So. What do you think?", the exact same line that was already in the IM box before the photo finished downloading. The implication is that he is reading a message that just came in, yet that line of dialogue from Ben was already present in the IM box previously.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey is nursing his black eye with a raw steak, Joey comes into Doug's apartment to talk to Pacey. Just when Pacey says, "Looking out for ya," there is a frontal shot of Joey. Her hair is bunched up considerably in the back, near her right ear. As Pacey says, "To look after said girl," the next shot of Joey shows the bunched up hair in the back suddenly gone, and her hair is smooth.
Continuity mistake: Gram's kitchen in previous Seasons had orange walls, and the cabinets were painted with avocado green and orange centers. (Except for the Pilot Presentation, where the cabinets were painted all green). However, in this scene the walls are still orange but the cabinets have been suddenly changed to avocado green and yellow centers.
Continuity mistake: When Joey is talking to Eddie at the doorway of her dorm room, a short brunette with her hair parted on her right side appears walking around the corner of the hallway behind Eddie. Joey and Eddie continue talking, and a short time later the same brunette again walks by in the hallway behind Eddie. She should have already walked past him in the time allotted before we see her again.
Continuity mistake: When Dawson's parents are outside talking, sitting on the picnic table, Gail reaches over and kisses Mitch. She then slides her right arm back down to rest on her lap, and her hand on his lower arm. But the very next shot, Gail's right hand is suddenly holding Mitch's arm, up by his shoulder. She hasn't moved between shots.
Continuity mistake: Right after Pacey leaves Dawson's bedroom at the beginning of the episode, Dawson looks out his side window to see Pacey leave and suddenly notices flashlights in the dark house next door. It's clear that Dawson is looking out the side window on the right of his bed, as he is directly facing Jen's house. There is also a side window to the left of his bed which also faces the same direction. But in a later episode (Guess Who's Coming To Dinner); they show a wide shot of that side of Dawson's house. There are two windows on that side of his house facing Jen's house, but they are on each side of a chimney and the two windows make up the complete upstairs (looks more like two rooms). But whenever we see Dawson's bedroom, it's much smaller and does not take up the complete upstairs space of the house. In fact, there is a clear upstairs stair landing that his bedroom is off of, and this landing looks out over a large open space with the dining room, living room, etc. So there is no way that Dawson's room with both side windows could possibly take up the entire sideways width of the upstairs as is shown from the outside. There is also no fireplace and chimney that runs the entire height of the house on that side of the house, and which would in theory be located right where Dawson's bed is between his two side windows. Obviously the real house exteriors differ considerably from the inside sets.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are standing in his restaurant, watching Dawson and the others come there is a shot of Joey with her hair tucked behind her right ear. But in the next shot of her, a close-up, she suddenly has all her hair pulled forward around her face. Her arms haven't moved between shots.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are on the boat coming home, look closely at Pacey's hair under the cap he is wearing. It is longer/thicker hair, and appears to be layered somewhat on the sides and back of the neck. A little later when Joey and Pacey have docked in Capeside and are getting off the boat, Pacey's hair is suddenly cut very short/close to the head, and does not look like it did under the cap on the boat.
00:00:50 - 00:05:05
Continuity mistake: At the very end, Dawson and Joey are kissing and they lay back on her bed. The snowglobe Dawson has just given her sits on the table next to her bed, and suddenly the snow inside it is drifting vertically down as if someone has just shaken it. But Joey and Dawson are busy, and neither one has touched it. Only a strong shaking could produce that type of snowfall, not just something bumping the table.
Continuity mistake: When Andie is doing sit-ups in the morning and practicing for the PSAT, she is listening to the news on TV. The news anchor mentions the author of the popular book "Cracking the PSAT". She says 'PSAT' not 'SAT'. But Andie immediately says something like "Way ahead of you", and holds up her copy of the book. On the cover, it says "Cracking the SAT", not 'PSAT'.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, Joey is shown refunding her Paris ticket. The shot is from Season 5 Finale, and her hair is tucked back behind both ears and darker. The next shot of her, the hair is suddenly much lighter, wavier and hanging in front of her ears. Obviously this was shot in Season 6.
Continuity mistake: When Joey is talking to Elliot in the classroom, she bends over her desk and gathers all her hair in front of her left shoulder. But in the next shot of her, you can see that her hair is suddenly in front of both shoulders. The transition was too quick to be realistic.
Continuity mistake: When Jen and Jack are talking in her room, Jack asks "Have you finished your applications yet?" Jen is rubbing her hands together in front of her. But the next shot, suddenly Jen's arms are stretched back behind her. Too sudden to be a realistic transition.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are arguing in his office, there is a close-up of Joey with noticable hair strands hanging off both sides of her face. The next shot of her, the hair strand on the left side of her face is suddenly gone, and her hair is tucked behind the ear on that side. This entire time Joey has been leaning forward on Pacey's desk, her arms supporting her. The next shot of her, the hair strand on the right side of her face is gone. But the next shot, both hair strands are magically back.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey and Joey suddenly start kissing in Pacey's office, Joey's hair is still tied up on top of her head. They turn and fall on the couch, and Joey's hair is suddenly completely loose and long beneath her. At no point during this transition did anyone touch or undo her hair.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the episode, when Pacey is telling Joey about his school problems; her hair changes dramatically between shots. Just as she says, "Whatever it takes, we're gonna fix it", her hair is blown back off her right shoulder, away from her face with only the hair ends resting on her shoulder. The next shot of Joey, as she says, "I'm not going anywhere without you", her hair is suddenly down in front of her right shoulder, and close to her face again. When Pacey asks her, "Joey?" and she replies, "Yeah?", her hair is still fully down by her face on the right side, in front of her right shoulder. But then the next shot of Joey when she says, "I'm not that much smarter, Pace", her hair is suddenly swept far back off her right shoulder, away from her face with the hair ends resting on her shoulder again. It looks like they filmed this scene two different ways, and edited it together.
Continuity mistake: When Joey meets Dawson before the Anti-Prom, he loans her his mother's diamond earrings. Just as Bessie says "Put them on, and then I'll get one more picture"; there is a close-up of Joey as she puts an earring in her right ear. It appears that she has just started putting the earrings on; but then she turns to face forward for the photo with Dawson, and you can see both earrings already on her ears. Joey started putting the right earring in just after Dawson told her to put the earrings on, so how did the left ear get done?
Continuity mistake: In the beginning of this episode, we see Jen and Dawson going into the kitchen where Jen gives him his "back to school' gifts for Film School. As Jen slides across the front of the kitchen counter in her pajamas, her back is to us and she bends slightly forward. Right at this point you can see a real tattoo on the lower back of Michelle Williams, the Actress. This view lasts for a few seconds as she moves into position at the counter. This same tattoo was air-brushed out from a previous episode. During Season 4 Episode 22 "The Graduate" (00-08-49 run time); there is a scene where Jen is wearing pajamas and bending over with her back to us, helping Drue Valentine through her bedroom window. At this point her lower back tattoo was showing, and the Executive Producer mentioned that they had to airbrush it out as they felt it wasn't appropriate for her character Jen. I guess in this Season 5 episode in the kitchen; they either didn't notice her tattoo showing, or chose to ignore it. But it is visible if you watch closely.
Continuity mistake: When Jack is talking to Professor Freeman outside the book signing, there is a close-up shot of the Professor with a noticable strand of hair hanging off his right forehead. The next shot of him shows the hair smoothed, and the strand back into position. He didn't touch the hair, and his arms were down by his side the entire time.
Continuity mistake: This episode shows a full day's events repeatedly in 4 separate segments, and it appears they reused the same scenes and dialogues. But there are noticable differences between Act 3 and Act 4. At the end of Act 3, when Dawson confronts Joey and Pacey about their relationship; he says to William and Andie, "Better yet, ask Joey. Ask her how long [she's] been lying to me and to you." During this same scene in Act 4, Dawsons varies it slightly: "Better yet, Ask Joey. Ask her how long [the two of them] have been lying to you and to me." He also switches 'you and me' interchangeably. Act 3, Dawson further says, "Go ahead ask them, because I can't [stand to look at them]." But in Act 4, he changes it to "Go ahead ask them, because I can't [even stand to look at them anymore]." The way these two scenes were shot varies also. During Act 3, when Dawson is finished talking he storms back into his house, and makes it inside the inner front door alone. But in Act 4, Dawson starts running back into his house with Joey following close behind him, so that she is in the frame when he reaches the inner front door.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Dawson are talking at her house before the party, there is a shot of Joey with her hair swept back behind her right shoulder, and the ends curled up as if blown by the wind. She says, "Doing what?" Then the next shot of Joey, as she says "I know," her hair is suddenly completely down around her face, in front of both shoulders, and not curled up on the ends or wind blown. Then the next shot of Joey when she says, "Oh it was nothing, it was great," her hair is once again swept back behind her right shoulder, and curled up on the ends from the wind.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the episode, Joey and Charlie are talking in the pup tent in the living room in the morning. As Charlie says, "I must have lost my touch." Joey is facing him with her hair hanging in front of her left ear and down around her face. But the next shot of Joey as she says "I don't think so"; suddenly her hair is tucked behind her left ear and away from her face. There was no movement of her hand to touch her hair in between shots.
Continuity mistake: At the very end of the episode, when Joey and Pacey are sailing out into the sunset the sky keeps changing between shots. When they are first setting off, it's earlier in the day with bright sun and a cloudless sky. The sun appears at a high angle. The next shot, as they sail further the sky is suddenly full of clouds and it's almost sunset, with the sun lower in the sky. The final shot after that, the sky is still cloudy and in sunset hues as the sun appears just over the horizon about to set. Obviously these shots were taken at different times of the day, although they appear to be right after each other in the show.
Continuity mistake: When Jen and Grams are arguing in the kitchen, Jen says "Why don't you donate to someone who cares". At this point, Jen turns to face away from Grams. But the next shot shows Jen suddenly turned towards Grams, facing her. Later in the scene when Grams says "Why don't you take the time to fill out a couple of your college applications", Jen is turned towards Grams. But the next shot suddenly Jen is facing away from Grams again. Apparently this scene were filmed two separate times, and edited together.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the episode, Joey and Pacey are repainting over the ruined mural with light blue paint. Joey starts to paint a small section of the wall with her roller. Dawson then comes out of a room, and glances down the hallway to see them both painting. But Joey's patch of light blue paint at this point is suddenly much larger. It doesn't seem realistic that Joey would have been able to paint that much more of the wall, in the short amount of time elapsed.
Continuity mistake: During the 'Urban Legend' that Pacey is telling everyone, he and his co-worker are being chased by an evil car. Right after they leave the creepy Diner, they come upon the enemy car facing them parked across the highway. Pacey slams to a stop, and they are facing the car head-on in very close proximity, right in front of them. But the next shot shows that same car much further away, down the road and Pacey hasn't moved yet.
Continuity mistake: When Pacey is handing Audrey the cupcake in the motel room, he places a small candle on it first. When he puts the candle on the cupcake, it's noticably crooked. But in the next shot showing the cupcake, the candle suddenly appears much straighter.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are sitting on the bed talking during the party, there is a shot where Joey is looking to her right, directly at Pacey. The next shot of her, she is suddenly looking down and completely away from Pacey. The transition is too fast to be realistic.
Continuity mistake: Right before the graduation service, Dawson is joking with Joey to get her mind off her speech. The wind has blown Joey's tassle so it's caught partly on her left ear facing the camera. But in the next shot of her, the tassle is suddenly hanging normally in front of her ear. She hadn't appeared to move her hands.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are talking at the table on the Promboat after the 'brutal breakup'; her arms keep changing position too quickly between shots. As Joey says, "You break my heart into a thousand pieces," her right arm is folded across her, and the right hand is resting on her left sleeve just below the bare shoulder. The next shot, from behind Joey you can see her right hand still gripping her left shoulder, but the sleeve is further up and ruffled on that side. Then just before she says "Just leave me alone", the next shot again shows Joey from the front; and suddenly her left arm is raised up, hand by her face, and the right arm is down on the table with the hand curved up in the air. As she says "Just leave me alone"; her left arm is still up and hand resting by her face, and the right arm is laid sideways across her, hand on elbow. Then the next shot of Joey shows that suddenly her pose has changed; and her left arm is raised up diagonally, hand across her right shoulder, and her right arm is still laid horizontally across her, hand by her elbow. All of these transitions are far too abrupt and fast to be realistic.
Continuity mistake: When Jen is talking to Grams and pours herself a glass of juice the fridge behind her is open. The camera cuts to Grams for a few seconds and when it cuts back the fridge is closed and the jug of juice has disappeared. While the camera does go off Jen for a few seconds, it was nowhere near long enough to put the juice back in the fridge and close it, then run back to where she was standing. Plus, there's no sound of the fridge door closing.
Continuity mistake: In the intro to this episode, the camera is panning the family photos of Dawson and his family. There is a close-up of a photo of Dawson and his parents, and Gail has the really long 'big' hair she only wore in Season 1. At this time, Dawson looked much younger and had longish hair himself. But in the photo-Dawson has much shorter hair and looks older as in current time. Apparently the photos were put together just for this episode.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the day, Joey and Dawson are laying on his bed talking. When Joey asks Dawson how he would describe his film, there is a close-up of Joey looking directly at Dawson, who is to her left. The next shot, as Dawson answers, Joey is suddenly staring straight up and not looking at Dawson. Then in the next shot, Joey is again looking back at Dawson to her left. The transitions are too fast for her to have actually moved her head.
Continuity mistake: During the beginning intro monologue, Jen is shown seated between her parents on a couch. The two actors portraying her parents are only shown from the back, but they appear to be different people than the original actors who portrayed them. The father, especially has different hair and wears glasses.
Continuity mistake: During this scene towards the end, Bessie insists on putting lipstick on Joey for Graduation. She dabs it on quickly, and there appears to be a noticeable smudge or mark on Joey's upper right lip from the lipstick. But the next shot of Joey, the lipstick suddenly appears normal and perfectly applied, and the smudge is gone.
Continuity mistake: When Aunt Gwen is talking to Dawson and Joey in the store, just after she says, "General all around cuddliness between the two of you"; Joey is facing her and Dawson is turned the other way, with his back to her. But the next shot of Dawson is a close-up, and he is suddenly facing Aunt Gwen as he says, "OK, I'll tell you the long soap opera short". The transition was too fast to be realistic, or to have given Dawson enough time to turn completely around to face Aunt Gwen.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, Pacey and Joey are dining at a large table while Pacey is flirting with the woman on his right. Joey goes underneath the table to retrieve her shoe, and sees what is apparently the woman's left hand on Pacey's knee. But the very next shot of the woman above the table shows her right hand up against her face, and her left arm folded, hand on the table. Her left arm doesn't appear to have moved, and there was no time for a transition from Pacey's knee to above the table.
Continuity mistake: When Jack is pulled over near the start the creek behind him is empty, and remains like that throughout the scene. Then for the last few shots before he drives off again a sailboat has appeared in the background, literally out of nowhere.
Continuity mistake: When Dawson is coming down the stairs to talk to his parents in the living room, there is a shot of Gail and Mitch on the couch together. Gail is sitting in such a way that her legs are draped over Mitch's legs, and her right leg is specifically hanging over his right leg touching it. But in the next shot, they show Gail and Mitch from the other side of the couch; and suddenly she is sitting with her legs up, bent at the knees and Mitch has his right leg up. There wasn't enough time between shots for anyone to move.
Continuity mistake: After Joey finds the visitor Anderson playing a violin on his yacht, they have a back and forth conversation where she hides her work apron behind her back. When the camera angle switches back and forth, her arms are in different positions.
