New this month Continuity mistake: When the group are about to open the door with the heat seeking missiles inside and the Polymorph sneaks up behind them, Lister is standing at the front of the group, Cat and Kryten are behind Lister and Rimmer is standing at the back, behind all three. In the next shot, as the missiles exit the door, Rimmer is now suddenly standing front of Cat.
New this month Revealing mistake: When Rimmer is piloting Starbug in Lister's body, there is a shot of Starbug spinning in circles. This is a shot that was taken from S3 E2 Marooned, of Starbug crashing after colliding with the asteroid. The only difference is the planet in the background has been changed.
New this month Continuity mistake: When Lister, in Rimmer's body, Cat and Kryten are chasing Rimmer in Blue Midget, the exterior shot shows all three sitting in one row. From the interior, Cat is sitting in front of Lister and Kryten, and Lister and Kryten are sitting behind Cat.
New this month Continuity mistake: When Kryten notices the photo of the bike in the countryside is moving, the peg attached to it is near the middle, along the top, but in the shot from behind, the peg is much closer to the right. The same goes for the photo of Kryten's birthday party.
New this month Continuity mistake: When the Polymorph is switching between various appearances at the start, it stops at a rabbit. When the Polymorph stops at the rabbit, there is a damp stain beside the two yellow lines on the floor. This damp stain was not there when the Polymorph was switching between other forms. The stain just suddenly appears out of nowhere.
New this month Audio problem: When Kryten starts looking over Lister's bunk trying to find the Polymorph, posing as the boxers, the boxers, and therefore the Polymorph, are visible on the bunk. The sound of the Polymorph transforming is heard, indicating the Polymorph has changed form, but the boxers remain there, without any transformation. It is not until a few shots after that the Polymorph has appeared to have changed form.
New this month Continuity mistake: After Starbug and Blue Midget leave Red Dwarf, there is a shot of Blue Midget driving away from the ship, towards the camera. Cat and Kryten are the only two on board as Rimmer and Lister are on Starbug, but there are three people shown inside Blue Midget. This is because the shot was taken from series two, in which Rimmer, Lister and Cat were inside it.
New this month Continuity mistake: Rimmer wears a hat with an antenna on the right hand side when on Starbug, and after arriving on Earth, but when he and Kryten are walking through the streets later on, the antenna is now on the left side of his hat, and is far more extended.

New this month Continuity mistake: When Kryten is piloting Starbug and gently "eases forwards", there is a shot shown from behind Starbug where it is driving out of the cargo bay to the exit, and it is shown a couple feet off the ground. When Starbug exits Red Dwarf in the next shot, Starbug is suddenly much higher above the ground.
New this month Revealing mistake: After Starbug has left Red Dwarf, the scene cuts to inside the ship where Rimmer tells Kryten to autopilot, and the background of space is entirely still, even though the ship is moving.
New this month Other mistake: When Lister inadvertently sets off the Auto Destruct sequence, the computer voice says the ship will detonate in 15 minutes. The computer then says "the ship will detonate" every five seconds followed by how much time until detonation, but the time in which the computer says this is inconsistent. Two seconds after the computer says 15 minutes, the computer says the ship will detonate in 14 minutes 55 seconds. Ten seconds after saying that, the computer says the ship will detonate in 14 minutes 50 seconds.
New this month Other mistake: When the group are discussing if they can override the Auto Destruct, the computer voice says 8 minutes 20 seconds until detonation. About 20 seconds after saying this, the computer voice then says 8 minutes 10 seconds until detonation.
New this month Revealing mistake: After landing on Earth, Rimmer and Kryten are standing on land. When Kryten asks "What is this place?", a car can be seen driving forwards in the far background, even though everything in this version of Earth is supposed to work backwards.
New this month Other mistake: It is established in the backwards version of Earth, that all writing is reversed and is spelled backwards. However, there are some inconsistencies, as in some instances the writing has been mirrored to appear reversed, whilst in some instances the writing has just been spelled out backwards. For example, car number plates and signs on display in the background have been mirrored to appear reversed, but the newspaper that Kryten reads, the Nodnol sign and the Sensational Reverse Brothers poster appear normally typed out, and not as the mirror image that other aspects of this world have.

New this month Revealing mistake: The scene where the pub manager comes backstage to yell at Rimmer and Kryten was filmed, and then reversed to appear as if he was yelling backwards. Rimmer blinks when he is being yelled at, and due to the scene being played in reverse, his facial movements appear reversed, even though he is supposed to be moving forwards.
New this month Revealing mistake: Lister and Cat get a ride to Nodnol after a man they bump into offers to take them in his van. The logo on the van appears completely normal, and has not been reversed, even though everything in this version of Earth is supposed to be reversed.
New this month Plot hole: The barroom tidy scene in the pub makes absolutely no sense. It is established that this fight started because Lister and the Cat uneat a man's pie, which causes the man to punch Lister, and then the barroom brawl happens, but the events are reversed due to this version of Earth being set in a backwards reality. However, if the events of this fight are put into chronological order, this would mean that Lister uneating the man's pie and being punched by him would have been the last thing to happen during this fight, as it was the first thing to happen in reverse order, and therefore, would also means that there would have been no real reason for the pub patrons would get into a brawl in the first place, as nothing had occurred at that time.
New this month Other mistake: When Rimmer is testing Kryten on a book of space traffic signs, Kryten stops on one page and is tested, which he says the sign is a binary star. Without turning the page, Rimmer points to a second sign on the same page asking what it is, which he points out is a blue giant about to supernova. After pointing to the time hole, Rimmer turns back to the book, saying "Right. What's this?" whilst still on the same page, pointing to a another sign. The page that is being used has one sign shown on the right hand side page, and the left hand side page is completely blank, equalling one sign on both sides of the page, but two or three signs are made mention to when on the page.
Factual error: The writer's understanding of the history of Nazism and its leaders is a bit shonky. Claus von Stauffenberg did not plant a bomb in Hitler's briefcase - he put it in his own briefcase which he planted in a meeting room next to Hitler (some berk moved it). This was in July 1944, while the last Nuremberg rally - which Lister visits, bringing back the briefcase - was in 1938. Stauffenberg didn't even join the anti-Hitler conspiracy until 1943. Red Dwarf is not an 'alternate history' - they correctly identify elements of the Stauffenberg plot and the Nazi regime, they just get them wrong.
Plot hole: In the episode 'Backwards' most of the things that happen on 'Backwards Earth' are correct, except, of course, in reverse. But there is an exception: in the scene in the Cafe, when the waitress comes to 'dirty' the table, she tips a box of trash on the table. If you play this scene backwards, the trash leaps from the table into the box. Even on a 'backwards earth' I can't believe that trash spontaneously leaps about...
Other mistake: When Lister (in Rimmer's body) pleads the Cat to lend him his body, he says "how else can I pilot White Midget?" In the next scene, the Blue Midget is being piloted, and White Midget was originally abandoned for Starbug. (This mistake was admitted by the crew).
Other mistake: At the start of the episode, there is a spoof Star Wars-type caption, which spools up the screen very quickly. Too quickly to be read, in fact... which may explain why few people have noticed that the last line of the caption, "And now the Saga Continuums...", is written twice.
Plot hole: If everything goes backwards, shouldn't Kryten and Rimmer have got fired, done their job and then got hired? Rimmer & Kryten discovered that everything was backwards in the cafe earlier in the episode. At the club they did their act and then got fired. Put this 'forwards' and it becomes wrong.
Revealing mistake: Near the end of the episode, Kryten and his employer are seen arguing in supposedly backwards English. However, when you watch the episode how the people of earth would see it on the second DVD, Kryten and his employer aren't speaking English, they are just speaking plain gobbeldy-gook, even although when you see the people of Earth talking on the DVD they speak correctly.
Continuity mistake: Kryten removes the polymorph underpants and throws them under the covers of Lister's bed. When he checks the bed and pulls out a snake the pants are now on top of the covers (even though he says they're gone) and the covers themselves are now arranged differently.
Continuity mistake: Kryten needs to ask what a pub is, yet in the episode "Backwards" he and Rimmer worked in one for three weeks as the comedy act "The Sensational Reverse Brothers", and, later, were involved in a brawl in the same pub. Originally, the episodes were to be shown in a different order, which explains why the mistake occurs, but doesn't excuse it.
Plot hole: In S2 E2 Better Than Life, Rimmer mentions that his brother Frank was 6' 5" by the time he was 11 due to their father pulling him on a tractor, however in S3 E5 Timeslides, the picture of Frank Rimmer's wedding shows Frank to be of fairly average height, and not 6' 5".

Revealing mistake: When Rimmer stands up from underneath the table, just before he says, "Thanks for your support" to Lister, listen very carefully and you can hear the stunt director saying "Action!" backwards. This shot was the splice point between the reversed and the regular footage. (I know this mistake is listed as being in the 'backwards version' on the DVD, but it is in the regular broadcast version too - you just have to listen harder for it.)
