Murder on the Honore Express - S8-E1
Continuity mistake: When Florence pulls up next to D.I. Jack Mooney, every time the camera is directly on her, she has a seatbelt on. Every time the camera pans to the mirror reflection of her, she doesn't. (00:32:00)
Other mistake: The victim is said to have died between 10 and 11 but the neighbour put his bins out at midnight and heard the fight.
Beyond the Shining Sea: Part One - S8-E5
Continuity mistake: The video played on the mobile where Tiana is shown leaving on the boat shows her wave with her right arm. In the previous scene she waved from the boat with her left arm. (00:03:26 - 00:07:52)
Plot hole: Why would Sian let Griff into the shower room if she broke up with him the night before?
Switcharoo - S9-E5
Continuity mistake: Emma brings Neville a plate with a sandwich, cut in half, while he is in the laundry room. Neville picks up the half of the sandwich closest to him, looks at it, and puts it back on the plate. He then picks up the half of the sandwich farthest from him, holds it for a brief minute, then puts it back on the plate. Only, the half farthest from him is already on the plate when he puts the one he's holding back. You need to look closely as this one was tough to catch. (00:33:20 - 00:33:45)
Switcharoo - S9-E5
Continuity mistake: Emma brings Neville a sandwich in the laundry room. Neville picks up the half closest to him and puts it back down. He then picks up the half farthest from him, holds it for a brief minute. When he puts it back on the plate, the half farthest from him is already there and he puts down the half closest to him. This was a tough one and I had to watch a few times. (00:33:20 - 00:33:45)
Episode #3.5 - S3-E5
Continuity mistake: The land rover is going on a track but the next shot inside shows a road in the side mirror's reflection.
Revealing mistake: When they break the door to the nurses room down because it's locked, you can see the lock is retracted so there was no need to break the door down. (00:05:10)
Revealing mistake: The doctor closes the blinds on the ward and picks his phone up and makes a call. However, you can see the screen never comes on so how could he choose a contact to ring?
Continuity mistake: When JP is talking to Marlon who is having lunch, Marlon's napkin keeps alternating between blowing in the wind and hanging freely.
Episode #1.5 - S1-E5
Continuity mistake: After Leon Hamilton is stabbed, Richard Poole gets out the whiteboard and says "this time it's personal." Yet the whiteboard has some writing on it and some pictures. If you look at it closely, it is Benjamin Lightfoot, the guy killed in the next episode when Richard is sick. So the whiteboard has everything from the next episode before it happens.
Continuity mistake: JP and Rosie go from having twins in episode 10.3, to having only a daughter in 10.8.
The Healer - S7-E4
Plot hole: If the person pretending to be Steadman wrote to his fiancée breaking off the engagement, wouldn't she recognise that it wasn't his handwriting? They had known each other for years, surely she had seen his handwriting before.
Factual error: Marie is a female name. Therefore, the island should be Sainte Marie, not Saint.
Plot hole: The author uses a typewriter and avoids technology. His fake identity was built on a laptop kept on another island. But in the big reveal, her guilt is predicated on her having seen the laptop to find out he was leaving her.
Other mistake: Inevitably the officers have to concisely give to the quirky inspector a quick profile of the suspect. For their "background checks" they read from profile sheets. It is unclear if they wrote them themselves or not; sometimes especially in earlier seasons they seem to receive them. These sheets contain sentences often written in a rather informal tone that does not fit the format, and in fact often you can see that whatever the officer is saying in casual tone as if it were part of the dialogue is written verbatim on the sheet itself. Example; 6-8, when Florence says "He's big on family values and promoting education in the community", with her line already readable word for word on the sheet in Jack's hand in the previous shot.
Answer: There's probably no particular reason. Sets and props on long-running TV shows often change as needed and for various reasons throughout a series run.
