General questions

Trying to think of a movie (possibly mid-80s) that was about a winter. And this pregnant lady wanted a particular kind of food and it only grew in someone else's garden. He was trapped. Sorry, that's all I have.

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: Sounds like an episode of the Showtime series "Faerie Tale Theatre" titled "Rapunzel". It aired in February of 1983. Starred Sherry Duval and Jeff Bridges.

Question: When the girl is going into the car wash, the sign right before she enters on the left advises her to put the car into neutral, but to make sure her foot is on the brake. Neutral would allow the car to advance through the automatic wash. Having the brake engaged would prevent the car from moving forward. They cancel each other out so what is the point?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: Actualy it says she should put it in neutral and keep her foot OFF the brake.

Answer: It tells her to keep it in neutral and keep her foot off the brake and the carwash stops then starts moving again when her head is stuck; out of the sunroof.

Angels & Demons (2009)

Question: SPOILER ALERTS! Does anyone know why they changed the final symbol to the keys instead of the one in the book? Also why they left out that the Pope was Ewan McGregor's father?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: In the book, the location of the antimatter bomb is only revealed after the Camerlengo pretends to have a "vision from God" on the steps of the Vatican. By changing the symbol to one that actually provides a clue to the location, it allows Langdon to work out where the bomb is, to actually play some part in proceedings rather than passively stand by until the villain just takes everybody there as part of his plan. As for the Pope being the Camerlengo's biological father, this is a fairly late revelation in the book and requires a substantial amount of exposition, which would only serve to abruptly slow the film to a crawl during the climax. The Camerlengo's motives, his hatred for the church's indulgence of science, are strong enough to explain his actions without the additional detail of his parentage being necessary, thus it could be safely left out to keep the film's momentum going.

Ocean's Twelve (2004)

Question: In the scene where they are discussing the amount of interest owed, at the end Rusty says to Frank, "Don't tell Danny." Explain please.

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: They were just discussing going to Amsterdam. In the flashback you see Rusty living with Zeta-Jones, and running away when she was getting close to arresting him. Frank knows about Rusty's history with Zeta-Jones (indeed, Frank was Rusty's partner on the Rome Bulgari's robbery). Zeta-Jones told Rusty she would like to go live in Amsterdam where she has relatives. Frank knows it is dangerous for the pair of them to go back to Amsterdam where probably Zeta-Jones is (Zeta-Jones wastes little time arresting Frank at a nail-salon).

Soylent Purple

Answer: Also, in the scene where Rusty and Isabel first see each other, it is Frank sitting at the table with Rusty. So it's safe to say he was well aware of the relationship from the beginning.

General questions

There was this cartoon (I think?) series in the 80's (maybe late) in the US that had one girl and two boys searching for lands of gold. The only other thing I remember is that one of the boys had a vase/pot that had broken lines on it that glowed for some reason. Any ideas?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: Sounds like "The Mysterious Cities of Gold". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122356/.

Grumpy Scot

Factual error: The clock on the back of the $100 bill is stated in the movie to show 2:22. In reality the clock on that bill reads approximately 4:10. (01:09:45)

Trivia: The Arctic scene at the beginning of the film with Charlotte was filmed in Utah at the Strawberry Reserve over 3 days and there was an unexpected blizzard.

shortdanzr

Trivia: The interiors of the ship Charlotte were filmed inside the Union Ice Company in Los Angeles to give the scene a more realistic feel. Also, the crew from the Charlotte was dressed in costumes borrowed from The Pirates of the Caribbean; The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Fools Rush In (1997)

Chosen answer: The music is Danke Schoen by Wane Newton - definitely not the music from Aladdin. It sounds close though. I have little kids and I've heard the song from Aladdin more than I want to.

Actually, the instrumental cue right before Newton sings his song, and many times throughout the film, is a rip off Aladdin cue. It's the exact melody from when Aladdin sings "Would they see a poor boy, no siree." It's exact, and sticks out obviously.

Question: During one episode, Jerry is dating a woman who's name he can't remember, but it rhymes with the name of a part of a woman's body. At the end he yells out the name to her down on the street. What is the name?

shortdanzr

Answer: The name is Delores. He shouts that name at the end of the episode. Then in a later episode, "The Foundation", he runs into her. And he repeatedly calls her Delores.

The Mask of Zorro (1998)

Chosen answer: The song is a re-arrangement of a classic Mexican folk tune 'El Sombrero Blanco' and is not available because it wasn't written by James Horner, who did all the original music for the picture. The folk song is very different from what is heard in the movie.

Meet Joe Black (1998)

Question: The instrumental music being played in the hospital when Brad Pitt is talking to the Jamaican lady sounds familiar, not composed solely for the movie. Anyone know what it is?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: The music played is just another part of the original score composed by Thomas Newman. His music, like many composers', sounds similar in different movies on which he has worked. You may be recognizing similarities to other scores such as The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Road to Perdition, etc.

City Hall (1996)

Question: Since I am deathly afriad of spiders, I closed my eyes for this scene. Can someone tell me how the spider is killed? Also, can someone briefly explain how Gollum and Sam play into the whole scene?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: Gollum framed Sam with the Lembas crumbs, so Sam stays down below. Gollum leads Frodo into the cave then disappears. He then watches as Frodo is caught in Shelob's web and taunts Frodo loudly. He then sees Frodo fighting and cutting the web, while Shelob moves closer. Frodo runs out of the cave and is attacked by Gollum. Frodo fights him and Gollum falls down the side of the cliff. Frodo is surprised by Shelob who appears on the rocks over him. Shelob then stabs Frodo with her venom and starts wrapping his body in the web material. Sam suddenly appears, having seen the 'missing' Lembas down below and coming up to help Frodo. Sam goes after Shelob. Sam fights with her and stabs her and she then crawls back into her lair. It's not made clear if Shelob dies, but she is badly wounded.

A Knight's Tale (2001)

A Knight's Tale mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Chaucer is introducing William at the end of the movie, he stands on the arms between the chairs of Prince Edward and the lady, a foot on each arm. When it cuts to a side view showing William's father to the Prince, Chaucer is no longer in between the chairs. Not to mention the fact that the Prince is looking at the railing (where Chaucer just was). The very next shot, he is back between the chairs. (02:03:05)

Continuity mistake: When William is riding through the streets of London, Roland is shown walking in front of him. Question: What are those blades (the ones used at the end on the caviar factory) used for in real life?

shortdanzr

Chosen answer: We see them in the movie when Bond first arrives to meet Electra - they're used for cutting trees in a straight line. Google "helicopter tree trimmer" to see dozens of examples.

Continuity mistake: As you watch the chase scene after the golf course, you can tell that Left ear is driving the white mini instead of Handsome Rob. [If you watch the deleted scenes, it shows them switching places due to a gunshot wound in Rob's arm. A mistake, but explained.]
