The Avengers (2012)

Question: Why didn't Jarvis alert Tony immediately that Selvig was in his building assembling the machine on the balcony to open the portal?

Gary Stewart

Chosen answer: Jarvis only has access to Tony through certain methods. The Iron Man helmet has speakers for Jarvis to speak through and buildings Jarvis is installed in as well. It's likely Jarvis warned Tony through other means, but either A) Tony figured it out by the time he got the message or B) In all the chaos of the attack on the Hellicarrier, Tony didn't see it.

Brad

Chosen answer: Right before Aunt Josephine's house falls apart. The door to Ike's room is blown open and the drawing flies into Klaus's hands.

Holes (2003)

Chosen answer: She was upset that Mr. Sir was making a big deal about Stanley supposedly stealing his sunflower seeds. The Warden is only in it for the treasure and doesn't care about the boys. Mr. Sir bothering her about a minor theft is irritating to her.

Brad

Answer: He was angry.

V for Vendetta (2005)

Question: If V was the one in charge of the Facility when Evey is being "tortured" then why are there more than one guard at a time in the scenes? I can understand one as V could change his voice and appearance (as never do you see their faces) but when there are more than one how does that work? I thought he didn't trust anyone?

Answer: As revealed later, they are dummies.

Question: What part did I miss to know about the twins at the end of the movie? Also when exactly did Loki lose his weapon to Hydra? Does Loki's weapon have the Tesseract in it?

dhavami

Chosen answer: The Twins are Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, aka Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Loki's staff was recovered by SHIELD after The Avengers, but of course, SHIELD had HYDRA agents in place to take it. Loki's staff is powered by the Mind Stone, one of the infinity gems.

Holes (2003)

Question: Who is the lad in the Wreck Room that almost fights Stanley? His name is not mentioned at all.

Macca

Answer: His name was Lump.

Chosen answer: In the book, his name isn't mentioned either. Also in the book, Stanley mistakes the man for Caveman when they say, "Nobody messes with the Caveman", because this was the first time Stanley had heard the nickname.

Brad

Answer: His name is Lump.

Question: I am confused as to why Voldemort went to James and Lily's house the night he murdered them. Hagrid says that he was gathering followers, but why was he particularly interested in making the Potters join him? Why confront them at their house and not just kill them later in a battle or something?

Answer: As explained in later movies, Voldemort heard that baby Harry was the focus of the prophecy that said he would defeat Voldemort. He went to the Potter's house to kill Harry and anyone who stood in his way.

Julie & Julia (2009)

Question: Julie starts getting "stuff" in the mail from her readers. But when you do a blog, you wouldn't put your address in there, would you?

kh1616

Chosen answer: It's entirely possible that she got a PO Box, which would allow her to receive goodies and keep her address private at the same time.

Now You See Me (2013)

Chosen answer: Atlas' represents his status as a ladies man, Henley's represents the fact that she's the lone female of the group, Woody Harrelson's shows how he is the joker of the group, and Jack's "Death" card foreshadows his "death" later on.

Brad

Actually, the Hermit card in the tarot is about introspection and reflection. I believe it speaks to the fact that Merritt is a mentalist, looking inward for his insights.

Men in Black 3 (2012)

Question: O says that back in Cape Canaveral, in the unaltered time line, something happened to K that changed him. All that's really said though, is that he stopped and arrested Boris the Animal there. So what exactly was it that changed K?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: He saw J's father murdered by Boris. In the unaltered timeline, J says that his father wasn't around. We see this at the end and it's also why J was recruited into the Men In Black. K was keeping an eye on him the whole time.

Question: Zartan asks the real president where the prison is where Cobra Commander and Destro are held. But didn't Zartan take the president's place at the end of the first movie, before those two were captured between films? So if that is something that would be told to the president, wouldn't Zartan already know? Or is this a major plot hole?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: Zartan is assuming the identity of the President. He doesn't have access to every single piece of information that the President knows. That's why the real President is kept alive in the case that Zartan needs information he doesn't know. Zartan can only do so much to look like and act like the President, but he has no idea about top secret information such as that. As for why Zartan would wait so long to free Cobra Commander and Destro, either that was part of Commander's plan, or Zartan has his reasons.

Brad

Question: What was the significance of the letters Elizabeth took from Beckett that he signed and what happened to them?

Answer: They are letters of marque which state Elizabeth and Will are released from the charges originally placed against them at the beginning of the film. Norrington steals the letters from Jack's jacket pocket and signs his name, thus clearing his charges. This is mentioned in the final scene between Norrington and Beckett. This is why Norrington can serve the East India Trading Company in the third movie.

Brad

Question: Why didn't Jack let Will die? If Barbossa and Jack could have come back from the dead why not Will? That way Jack could have stabbed the heart himself.

Answer: Because, as stated in the film, Jack wasn't dead: He was taken to Davy Jones' locker and he needed to be rescued. As for Barbossa, Tia Dalma was the only one who could "resurrect" someone, and she's freed from her human bonds, so she's out of the picture. And in any case, it's far more dramatic for Jack to give up his chance at immortality to save Will's life.

Brad

Question: What was the point of Jamal explaining the cost of pani puri? Did he really not know the answer to the simple question?

Answer: I believe it was to demonstrate that as a "slumdog" he knew some things but not others. He obviously did not know the answer to the question asked on the game show that the police chief asks him about, so to defend himself, he proves that he DOES know some things: just things that not everyone knows.

Children of Men (2006)

Question: There are numerous instances where animals seem to like or be attracted to Theo, the dogs at the farm being the most prominent. Is this supposed to show or imply anything to us? Or is there any reason given for this phenomenon in the film?

Answer: Alfonso Cuaron compared the character of Theo to biblical characters like Moses, so I would assume that the animals' attraction to Theo is a reference to Noah and the Ark, which represents several themes in the film.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Question: In the scene when they kill Bret, Jules gives his Bible quote and they both shoot Bret down, then the screen goes red and scene ends. I see this whenever its on Cable and on my DVD, yet I have seen a clip on the internet when a guy runs out from the bathroom and shoots at Jules and Vincent, completely missing them, and they kill him too. Is this some deleted scene? Was this extra scene shown in theaters? And why was it removed?

Carl Missouri

Chosen answer: That scene IS in the movie. It's just a few scenes later. The film's structure is out of order.

Brad

Answer: That scene is actually shown twice in the movie. The first time, toward the beginning of the movie, the scene ends after the shooting. Then later in the movie, they show the scene again, only this time with the guy running out of the bathroom and shooting them.
