Question: Two questions about Tulip. 1) The first time Jasper takes Tulip to her family's house so she can meet them, why does she hesitate to ring the doorbell? Why does she walk away? 2) How does Tulip manage to find Junior at the fake house Hunter traps him in?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: 1) She feared that her family would not want her given that so much time had passed since her family had requested her to be delivered by the storks. 2) She knew the address to go to because it was listed on the delivery beacon.

Peter Pan (1953)

Question: Why do the other pirates bully Smee? What do they have against him?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: He's too much of a bumbler and too cheery (for example when he tells the crew "good morning" and they wanted to know why it's so good.) They probably also see him as a fool and brown-noser since he's always trying to make Hook happy. To the crew he's just Hook's assistant and not a real pirate at heart.

Aladdin (1992)

Question: Two Questions about the Cave of Wonders: 1) The Cave states that only Aladdin can enter, but Abu enters the cave as well. That suggests that Aladdin is just the only human welcomed into the cave while the rule does not apply to animals. Why doesn't Jafar send Iago into the cave to retrieve the lamp for him? 2) The Cave also warns Aladdin not to touch any treasure besides the lamp, because if he does the cave will erupt and collapse on him. The cave is also where Aladdin and Abu meet the Magic Carpet. Clearly, they touch the carpet. Why doesn't the cave erupt and collapse when Aladdin and Abu touch the carpet?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: The cave has some level of sentience. It is aware of who is entering the cave, and decides whether to allow them to enter. It is able to tell that Abu is with Aladdin. It seems to keep a watchful eye on the person in the cave, and when it says "touch nothing" what it means is "don't try to take anything. It seems it was fine with them interacting with the carpet, and only had an issue when Abu was attempting to actually take something.

Question: When Nick first appears on the screen, he walks in front of a big truck driven by a ram. Is the ram driving the truck Doug (Bellwether's sniper who composes the serum)? Also, when Judy and Nick confront Bellwether at the museum, is Doug the ram who blocks the doorway (dressed as a cop) Judy and Nick try to escape through or a different ram?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: It is possible as this ram does sound very similar to Doug, but there are also many similar character models in the film that look the same but have very minor visual differences, the only true way to know would be if one of the creators reveled the identity of the ram.

Question: I have two questions in reference to Flynn and Gothel. 1) When Flynn is arrested, he believes Rapunzel has been abducted by the Stabbington Brothers. Later, while he is being taken to the gallows, Flynn sees the Stabbington Brothers in their cell and questions them on how they knew Rapunzel's hair is magic. One of them responds, "It wasn't us. It was the old lady," referring to Gothel. Seeing how he rides Maximus to the tower where Gothel hides Rapunzel after escaping, how did Flynn figure Rapunzel would be there without getting no information to confirm? 2) When Gothel stabs Flynn, why does she tell Rapunzel she's to blame for Flynn's impending death?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: 1) Flynn knows the tower is where Rapunzel and her "mother" live, going back there is the only logical place to search for Rapunzel. 2) She meant it was her fault for leaving the tower and dragging Flynn into the situation, which led him to his fate.

Zootopia (2016)

Question: Nick claims he knows every animal in Zootopia, including Duke Weaselton. How did Nick get to know the weasel and how did he figure that Duke was involved in the crime of turning predators feral?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Because in fact, Nick knows every animal in Zootopia, including the Duke Weaselton. Judy figured out the Duke was involved because of the robbery he committed earlier and Nick knew where he peddled bootleg movies, which led to him being interrogated at Mr. Big's house. Duke says that he stole and delivered light bulbs for Nighthowlers plant to naughty sheep (sheep that make Nighthowlers plant serum and shoot the serum to predator to make the predator going savage).

Question: When Michelle Stacy played Penny in the making of the film, did she pose for the drawings of Penny? Did Stacy even have to hang upside down in order to pose for the drawing of Penny held upside down by Brutus?

Question: When Judy starts her mission to find Mr. Otterton and finds Nick with his partner, Finnick, she manages to hustle the fox, get him to confess his crimes on a voice recorder, and forces him to assist her on her mission before she decides to arrest him. Finnick laughs at Nick's humiliation and walks away. Why does Judy let Finnick off the hook despite the fact he was involved in Nick's scams?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Finnick didn't say anything that could be used against him and she had no proof that he was delinquent on his taxes, as he said, "She hustled you good!"

Finnick was involved in all of Nick's scams so shouldn't he have been charged as an accessory and therefore also forced to help Judy?

Nick's crime was not paying taxes. Judy had no evidence that Finnick was guilty in any tax evasion or that he even participated in earlier scams.

Question: I have two questions about Duke Weaselton. 1) Is he the same weasel who was a childhood friend of Gideon Gray's? 2) Despite Judy capturing him early on, how did he get out of prison? If he was released from prison then why?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: 1. No, it's not, that is Travis. The weasel who was a childhood friend of Gideon has brown fur, but when officer Hopps chases the Duke, the Duke's fur colour is brownish orange. 2. The Duke has gone through the period of his prison time, so he did get out - maybe the Zootopia laws are different than ours.

Question: I have three questions about the Stabbington Brothers. 1) When the Stabbington Brothers find Flynn on the lake in the boat with Rapunzel, and then Flynn comes ashore to relinquish the tiara, the thieves have their own boat, which they eventually tie Flynn to and use to cast him off across the lake. Why don't the thieves just use their boat to try and catch Flynn and Rapunzel on the lake instead of waiting for them to come ashore? 2) After Gothel knocks the thieves unconscious, how did the Palace Guards find the Stabbington Brothers? 3) Seeing how the Stabbington Brothers shed tears of joy at Rapunzel and Flynn's wedding in "Tangled Ever After," what matter persuaded them to perceive Rapunzel and Flynn more favorably and made them decide to turn over as new leaves?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: 1. They had to lure Flynn away into a trap as to retrieve Rapunzel easier. 2. Probably a routine patrol. 3. Considering they are not imprisoned, and alive and well, Rapunzel probably pardoned them on the catch that they be good.

After Riley quits hockey, while Anger and Disgust are frustrated by the disaster without Joy at Headquarters, Fear tries to abandon Headquarters through the same tube Joy and Sadness get sucked into. Is that a reference to the early concept of him getting lost with Joy?

By the end of the film, the same human Arlo and Spot saw in the distance earlier shows up along with his family. Spot joins the family. Why does Arlo decide to let Spot go this time?

How come the Stabbington Brothers didn't end up in the same place as Rapunzel, Flynn, and the guards pursuing when exiting the tunnel? How did the twin thieves end up in another tunnel?

Chosen answer: There were two separate tunnels. The Stabbington brothers just came out of the other one. That's why they ended up in a different place.

Question: When Joy is in the dump of forgotten memories, she sees a probe containing the sad memory of when Riley lost a hockey game after missing the winning shot. The probe shows that after Riley felt sad and has been cheered up by her parents, she is cheered on by her old team mates. Joy knows that since that probe is blue, it was a memory represented by Sadness. She begins to realize that Sadness helped Riley to ease her conscience. How come Joy didn't see that before when she would have been at the control panel in headquarters just when the event occurred?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Joy must have seen the event. Since Joy was so focused on Riley's happiness and thought Sadness brought nothing to the table, she didn't realize that Riley needs to be sad at times to help her cope and move on to get to the happy times.

Question: It makes sense to me how Joy, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust's colors represent the emotions they are. Here's what I don't get though. How does Fear's color (purple) represent the emotion he is?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: The filmmakers noticed that the traditional color for cowardice (Fear) was yellow, but Joy was already yellow (not because she was cowardice). Purple was then used for Fear, primarily because Joy was already chosen yellow. Docter states that "Fear was kind of, frankly, the leftover color. We tried to design them in a nice ensemble group so they looked good together."

In fact, that is how Brutus carries Penny back to the river boat through the swamp. However, when the crocodiles return to the river boat with Penny, Brutus is suddenly holding Penny upside down by her underwear. There is no explanation for how Brutus could have possibly turned Penny around like that without releasing her just for a moment and preventing her from escaping. It even stands to reason that Brutus would not release Penny until he got her back to the river boat. Additionally, when Brutus carries Penny upside down through the door of the river boat, Penny is facing toward Brutus. but in the next shot when the crocodiles are inside the river boat with Penny, she is suddenly facing away from Brutus. John Ohman

Chosen answer: Maria had already seen the medal of eternal life and Joaquin had already talked about all of his medals. He told Maria about how he got all of his medals but not the medal of eternal life.

Chosen answer: Even though the explosion was blocked by the bell, he was still able to get the medal of everlasting life on Manolo. Since he was unable to get away fast enough he was blown back by the explosion since he was too close. The blast most likely hit him right in his face and scalded his eye.

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Because it was mentioned that Joaquin goes from town to town saving people from bandits. It's likely that everyone was under the assumption he would leave again to help other people, and he has nothing other than Maria and General Posada tying him to San Angel (except maybe Manolo).

Manolo's father is killed by the bandit at the same place where Manolo dies. But he is transported to the bull fighting ring where Manolo is fighting the bull skeletons. Manolo's grandmother also shows up at the bull fighting ring as soon as she dies. Why doesn't Manolo's father or grandmother get transported to the entrance of the Land of the Dead upon their deaths like Manolo does?

Question: When Manolo and Joaquin start fighting the wild boar, General Posada only sees Joaquin confronting the boar before he is knocked unconscious. Thus, he never sees Manolo fighting the boar like a matador. When the general recovers, he believes Joaquin defeated the boar and not Manolo. Despite the townsfolk being impressed by Manolo's action, why does no one, including the nun who thanks Manolo for saving her life, speak up and tell the general what actually happened? Why don't they confirm to the general that Manolo fought and defeated the boar?

John Ohman

Answer: General Posada assumed that Joaquin saved them because he saw Joaquin not killed by the bull. He completely missed Manolo's bulfighting. He also probably assuming that because Joaquin's father was a great General, he must be like his father and a brave future soldier. - JMS.

Chosen answer: There was probably too much panic from the rampaging animals.

Question: When Xibalba first gives Joaquin the Medal of Eternal Life, he is disguised as an old man. Yet, at the end of the film, Joaquin returns Xibalba his medal. How did Joaquin know the medal belongs to Xibalba? Is there a statement by a character or some indication that the medal belongs to Xibalba which I missed?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Well, the Medal of Eternal Life and Xibalba do share colors, so it's likely Joaquin connected the two and knew it belonged to Xibalba. This is what I just think though,.

Question: The tour guide, Mary Beth, is revealed to be La Muerte and the elderly security guard is revealed to be Xibalba. The museum scene appears to take place in the United States while the story, the majority of the film, obviously takes place in Mexico. If the museum is in the United States, then why would La Muerte and Xibalba go to such a country and disguise themselves as U.S. Citizens?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Probably their goal is to tell as many people around the world as possible about Manolo and co.'s story so that they will continue to be remembered.

Answer: Maybe they just wanted to share the story and have people remember the heroes of San Angel.

Continuity mistake: Before Manolo's first bull fight begins, his father sheathes two swords on his back. However, those swords disappear when Manolo enters the ring where he fights the bull. Furthermore, when the time come for Manolo to kill the bull, his father provides him one sword. (01:35:00)

John Ohman

Question: When Maria is killed by the snake and her father and the townsfolk find out, why do Maria's father and the townsfolk blame Manolo for her death?

John Ohman

Chosen answer: Manolo was the only person with Maria, and there wasn't any other person near by. The townsfolk had probably suspected that Manolo wasn't able to protect her from whatever danger there was, or that Manolo had killed her.
